ModeratorAdded opening bio info to the guide:
The portraits for the opening bios are listed from 0x1D4C4-0x1D4D0. These are just a list of general IDs. They are listed in this order:
Liu Bei – A8
Guan Yu – A9
Zhang Fei – AA
Zhang Jao – OC
Dong Zhuo – BB
Lu Bu – C0
Yuan Shao – 26
Yuan Shu – 1B
Zhao Yun – D7
Ma Chao – B0
Huang Zhong – 41
Zhuge Liang – D5
Pang Tong – 9D
Simply change these general IDs to change the portraits displayed. The text is right after this section. To edit it use a hex editor and load the doaetable.tbl from DoaEditor. Then (carefully) edit the text while preserving line breaks. The breaks are usually a function like 20####.
Note that editing this is a major pain

InactiveWe've all probably thought of this one a time or two, maybe we can look into like a "3/4 step rule" where we can't encounter a fight until we have taken at least three steps from the previous encounter? It's unnerving to try to go through a cave and have 7 fights in 10 steps.

ModeratorGames usually one one of two formulas for determining random encounters:
(1) Every step has a chance of giving a random encounter. For example, plains would be 1/32 and forests 1/16. They use something like this in Dragon Warrior 1.
(2) A random number is chosen after each battle, and is decreased every step. When it reaches zero, it's battle time! For example, they roll 128-255, and decrease it by 4 on plains and 8 in forests. They use something like this in Final Fantasy 1.
Type one tends to be more erratic in battles, as each check is independent of the others. You could easily fight two battles on adjacent squares, or go a hundred steps without a battle. The second example, meanwhile, would ALWAYS take 32-64 plains steps to the next battle. Most likely, DoaE is type 1.

InactiveOh more just playing around, $6714 is the tag that says if you've gained your level through the event in Ji Zhou, turned it to 00 to see levels past 51, somewhere about at 60 it goes nuts and levels you like 20-30 times (surely reading some sequencial code beyond the normal array.) so here's some fun stuff:
Your MTP still goes up normally, but (with Zhu Ge Liang) your actual max is more like MTP – 257 (FF 256 and the pure fact you can't get 100% MTP, so that's my guess); and you can have more than 100,000 soldiers, your max shows 5 digits but you can have at least 6 in combat.
Also this makes me believe $6700-$674E are all event triggers… neat
Edit – Ah so he won't level me past the "go nuts" part (Which is _4), also each level gained past that maximum causes you to learn Fire 1 and Fire 2 a lot, which of course are overwritten by priority.
And An Sha causes 65535 damage, but sets status to dead. (Still on screen with life)

ModeratorBeen thinking of a few things while on vacation….
1. Still need to find how to change the Title Screen/Menu Music addresses
2. How to target the Power Pils/Elixirs: maybe make them multi-targetable? Need to find those addresses.
3. … I know there was a third, but I forgot it! Will hopefully remember soon…
And about that Ansha thing… if someone has like 70,000 life, they are literally dead but still have life left, its weird.

ModeratorI'm sure they only assign two bytes (hence 0-65535) to enemy HP and skill damage; therefore, they assume that nobody will break 65535 max HP.
Unfortunately, mods can do so.

ModeratorThere's a huge difference between meeting a 20,000 HP enemy when you have 10,000 HP and meeting a 20,000 HP enemy when you have 500 HP.
Especially since your first chapter 8 fight is probably easier than the chapter 7 boss, but much, much, much harder than the chapter 3 boss.

InactiveTo ensure that your pee stains are dealt with correctly, get yourself a baseball bat and bash in your dog's skull every time it leaves a sticky mess on your carpet. That's what I started doing 10 years ago, and my dog hasn't peed on the carpet ever since! It also works great with kids, the elderly, and the mentally disabled! Try it! :)

ModeratorStrange… Not sure off hand what would be causing that. We have 2 options:
– You can apply one of the IPS patches to just add the changes for you (but you might get some extra enhancements.

– Option 2 is to upload your ROM somewhere and let me take a look. Just tell me which officer you're looking at. Might want to include a save state too if you're using FCE Ultra.
