InactiveWell if I can't edit I'll just reply.
So $6500 is where the tags of "Has this battle been fought" is saved, noticed the three bothers were, the one infront of the gate (I prefer not collecting Han Zhong :3) was, then one 00 and more 01's while trying to find if something I was doing between the beginning and the "Search the area around me" Sword would bug my hidden items. I didn't replicate the bug this run, but here's some fun notes.
I turned on the three brother fights again mid game, including the gate. Fought them, Liu Bei disappeared from the throne and Tao Quan was sick again. Without Liu Bei I was like, ok let's see what happens. Xu Zhe disappeared (he was the only member in my party other than Zhang Fei and Guan Yu), decided to do this again with just Zhang Fei and Guan Yu, Liu Bei disappeared again, Tao Quan was sick again but no one else was removed from the party. (I think it removes the person that would be tagged to Liu Bei's spot since you can't remove any of the first three characters, since Xu Zhe was the next person I picked up)
Also, information for chests are read each time they enter your screen, each time you step on them and if you close your command prompt while standing on it, it will read it again.
So ya, it seems Chests and Hidden Items were programmed by two different guys, this is stated on some other forums, but it also explains why there are some lines in text like "Are you all right?" vs. "Are you alright?"
No longer feel productive, still having fun though

Moderatoryeah, that and when they have capital instead of capitol. I don't think it is party place specific, otherwise if you moved Liu to the last spot, or middle, he still gets removed, thus being Hex specific, but I wonder why it removed Xu Zhe? Hmm, this could have potential…
From the credits it seems like there were about 6 or 7 people working on this game, now it takes, what, 2 maybe 3 hundred people or more? Unless its squaresoft and you get like 1000+

ModeratorRe: the text differences, it's probably something that happened in translation. The chest/party glitches are most likely in the original game(not that I'd expect anyone to check), because reprogramming everything is usually a bit out of scope for an NES game localization.
I don't think the translation team is even in the credits for the game. That's a shame, since it's a very readable script for its time.
That said, the dictionary system was probably added in translation.
So I guess the conclusion I'd come to is more than two programmers and more than two translators.
Game teams only have to be big if you are going all-out (orchestral score, etc). If you look at the credits, most of those people are voice actors, composers, sound technicians, motion capture people – very few actually do the same things they did for a game like DOAE. A 2-d game can still be made by very small teams (like Spirit Engine 2 which was made by two people).

ModeratorSweet. I'll make an IPS patch at some point with your new sprites + list.
June 27, 2012 at 3:51 pm #40095MiDKnighT
ModeratorJust saw your Ieyasu update. Can I pull the 2nd sprite bank from that for the next IPS patch?
June 27, 2012 at 6:27 pm #40096sonic.penguin
ModeratorIt's the same sprite bank as the link above
June 27, 2012 at 6:43 pm #40097MiDKnighT
ModeratorOh now I see the link. Oops. And should I change the smoke pot in the IPS patch or leave that for people to tinker with?
June 27, 2012 at 6:46 pm #40098sonic.penguin
ModeratorChange it to 80. No one even buy's smoke pots now since you have to load up with so many and its such a waste taking like 20 steps just to wear off and use it again
June 27, 2012 at 6:56 pm #40099MiDKnighT
ModeratorI was thinking the same – I'll do that.

InactiveI downloaded and patched from the front page to remember why I had a problem with it.
This is what happens:
When I go into combat and the first blow is landed, all my units disappear, become removed from combat, the music continues to play. May want to check that patch. I used lunar IPS as well to patch a brand new file and did nothing else to it.
June 28, 2012 at 2:18 pm #40101MiDKnighT
ModeratorIt works fine for me. Are you patching the right ROM? It should be: Destiny of an Emperor (U).nes
Anyway I have uploaded a new IPS patch. This one:
– Adds sonic's 2nd sprite bank.
– Fixes a gold accumulation bug with extra chapters
– Doubles smoke pot timing

ModeratorAdded opening bio info to the guide:
The portraits for the opening bios are listed from 0x1D4C4-0x1D4D0. These are just a list of general IDs. They are listed in this order:
Liu Bei – A8
Guan Yu – A9
Zhang Fei – AA
Zhang Jao – OC
Dong Zhuo – BB
Lu Bu – C0
Yuan Shao – 26
Yuan Shu – 1B
Zhao Yun – D7
Ma Chao – B0
Huang Zhong – 41
Zhuge Liang – D5
Pang Tong – 9D
Simply change these general IDs to change the portraits displayed. The text is right after this section. To edit it use a hex editor and load the doaetable.tbl from DoaEditor. Then (carefully) edit the text while preserving line breaks. The breaks are usually a function like 20####.
Note that editing this is a major pain
