Oh I definitely will give you credit for everything you've mentioned. I think we were all hoping we'd get someone who had played it in it's native language and could interpret better and share the things that we never would have found otherwise.

It's always nice to talk with other people who like the same games, plus the DOAE games are not very popular. Of course, we already have lots of info here on DOAE and DOAE2, and I've figured out at least some of DOAE3 Genesis.
What we're really lacking info on is DOAE3 SNES. Any help you could provide there would be greatly appreciated.

Samuel, for the DOAE 3 roms, see the download section for VIPs for them, any help would be appreciated, as it seems you can read chinese and moon language!

How did we ever reach the conclusion that Japanese=Moon?

I don't know, it's Commie who thought that.

I can read Chinese but not Japanese. Regardless, I can't offer help for SNES' DOAE3. I have never played the game and I am occupied with tonnes of business at school and work. I then don't have time to learn it.

If you ever happen to play DOAE3 Genesis, if you could translate the town names that would help (I'm sure all the towns have the obligitory Greeter Guy somewhere).

Let me go back to DOAE2 a little bit. I just defeated Cao Ren at Nan Jun. We can skip not only Yi Ling, but also Xiang Yang. However, the Nan Jun battle is even tougher. Cao Ren, Cao Ang (should be Cao Hong in the original Japanese version, the English translators mix up Cao Ang and Cao Hong), Xiahou Dun, and Niu Jin.
I had to keep using Luo Shi, since normal attacks kills merely 20 to 50 soldiers. I won the battle but used up almost all of my TP. Then, I discover that I can enter Xiang Yang and Yi Ling without a fight.
But I do not recommend skipping Xiang Yang and Yi Ling. In doing so, we lose valuable EXP. Notice that we do not gain any EXP after the Nan Jun battle.
I will get to DOAE3 when I can. Anyway, I still want to point out a mistake in the website's translation. In the DOAE3 title screenshot, the three generals are not Yuan Shao's. They are Zhang Bao, Cheng Yuan Zhi, and Zhang Jue (Yellow Turban Rebel Leaders).
DOAE3 looks weird. It sounds like Final Fantasy more than ROTK type games. Besides, why do Liu Bei's generals look like pygmies while the enemies are as enormous as giants?

So you can sail south to the Yi Ling/Nan Jun area without defeating Xiang Yang? Never even thought of that.
are you talking about this by the way?
Welcome to Lord Yuan Shu.comPosted 4 years ago # -
So that's why they don't have the same characters in their name! They are Zhang Jue's brother!

Samuel:
DOAE3: The reason for the size difference is the same as the SNES FF titles: the characters are sprites, they have a lot of poses, and there are up to four at a time, so they need to be small so they can do all their different actions without looking strange. The enemies are just drawings who flash when they attack, so they get puffed up bigger since they are static.
Thanks for the Scarves clarification, I figured the main guy was Zhang Jue but was not aware the others were anything other than buffed-up bandits. There is a similar fight in the middle of that forest, so I assume the bandits there are also Scarves leaders like Deng Mao.
About the town names, if you just play through the opening with the Yellow Turbans, once you are in Cao Cao's city and can access the world map, pressing start brings up a map with all the locations in the game. If I could get a translation list for those, it would be much appreciated, so look into that if you get any free time.
DOAE2: Pointing out that Xiangyang post Chi Bi is optional helps the low-level game plan, since if you get no experiance from Nanjun then that's that lower of a level for the end. Is Jingzhou needed, since the Talley Order is there?

Lord Yuan Shu:
That is the screen shot that I am referring to. Zhang Bao is Zhang Jue's younger brother. Cheng Yuan Zhi is one of their generals.
TaiShi Ci:
You can skip Jing Zhou theoretically. I have never done it. But I once forgot to grab the Tally Order. Battles in Xiang Yang, Yi Ling, and Nan Jun become very difficult. All of the generals' attacks are critical hits. If you skip Jing Zhou and head straight to Nan Jun, you may run into Cao Ren, Cao Hong (Cao Ang in the game, translation error), Xiahou Dun, Niu Jin, and possibly Chen Jiao. All of them may strike you with critical hits and Chen Jiao burns you with his Li Jian and Xin Luan. It should be a mightily difficult battle to win.
For DOAE3, I can promise you to translate the cities in a short while. But I can do my best once I have time.

You are right Samuel!
I haven't done this battle yet but it looks scary. I think I'll need to build up some more levels. I have Yi Ji as my tactician so I can have Zhuge in battle casting stuff.

Actually this is suicide. There's no way I'll have enough TP to take them all out….I think it's absolutely necessary to use an array, but which to use?
That bastard Chen Jiao casts Feng Jian, putting himself in front. His 4200 is tough to take down especially when all you can use is tactics (and he has a high intelligence).
Hardest battle in the game….I say.

For DOAE3, I actually mean that I cannot promise to translate all the places in a short while. If I get to them, I will post them in the DOAE3 threads.
For the battle that Lord Yuan Shu asks, I don't think that we have a chance to win. If we use Yu Lin, we can limit Chen Jiao's tactics. However, others' attacks are way too strong. All of their strikes are critical hits because we do not have the Tally Order. In this screenshot, a critical hit from Xiahou Dun may be able to kill Zhuge Liang.
Our attacks hurt them so little that we will not be able to take out Chen Jiao, if he sets up Feng Jian array. Yi Ji won't give us enough TP as the strategist.
Conclusion: We don't stand a chance. It's better to conquer Jing Zhou at least. Save a few levels and you may skip Xiang Yang and Yi Ling. If you choose to fight this battle, get Da Re (level 32, takes WAY TOO MUCH TIME) and you may have a chance.

I usually come into it around level 19 or so, and if you have the patience to level up to level 24 to get Luo Shi, the third level boulder magic, you can take down Nan Jun with some luck.
You absolutely, positively have to be efficient with your TP. Personally, I switched to Zhuge being the tactician to give me 25 or so more TP than I would have had with Yi Ji at the tactician slot.

I only used Zhao Yun and I only used Luo Shi. No arrays. I went after Niu Jin first and got him down in two turns, with one of the Luo Shi's taking off 1300 or so. Xiahou Dun followed and he was a bit harder, he repelled at least one Luo Shi from Zhao Yun. Cao Ren was next and his low soldier count was his downfall. I decided to leave Cao Ang for last since he's rather harmless, and because I've had problems with Chen Jiao in this battle. My respect for Chen Jiao has gone up, he's much more aggressive than I normally thought he was. Plus his 4200 soldiers take forever to take down, not to mention the fact that he is near Zhao Yun in intelligence so you'll really have to get lucky to take him down. If you can manage to kill him, Cao Ang isn't too tough. I ran out of TP killing Chen Jiao and had to all out Cao Ang, which is trouble because physical attacks are absolutely worthless in this battle.

Congrats on your victory, Lord. Here, have a bottle of Jiu.
Samuel, the location names are not really a pressing issue for the walkthrough (as much as items or boss HP, say) so don't feel you have to go out of your way to get them. Just try it once you get some free time, thanks in advance.
