Lord Yuan Shu
KeymasterThe translation is a much better and harder game in my opinion despite all the new silly commands they give each character.

ParticipantI actually like getting to use the Dark Wave command early in the game. It’s a useful attack when you’re trying to build levels before fighting the Mist Dragon.

ParticipantIt’s very nice, although I wish cecil would learn some basic black maagic as well. When he’s a paladin he learns basic white magic so why not.

ParticipantI must object to one thing in your guide though, Staff’s power may go up by 1, but "Antidote" on the Staff, is nowhere near as useful as Rod’s special attack. It’s special attack does roughly 20-30 damage, and cna help when she runs out of MP.

ParticipantChapter 3 – The Antlion
You will now tackle the Antlion cave. Make sure you have a few tents and potions, you just might need them. Anyway, grab all the treasure in this first floor, a few healing items is all it is. Once you’ve grabbed it all, go to the right and down a few steps to the Basement 2nd floor. Grab the chest in there, then go into the room to your left. I believe you’ll get the Dreamer harp, an improvement for Gilbert (not much of one). Follow the path then go north and east into the opening. Continue along the path until you get to a save point. Grab the treasures in here, then step on the save point. If you must, use a tent, but SAVE now.
Get out of there, then make your way south to the center. You’ll be in the Antlion’s Nest. Use potions to heal before this battle, you’ll need to. Gilbert will try to get the Light of the Desert. Rydia will be scared, but Gilbert reassures her that the Antlion won’t hurt a human.
WRONG! The Antlion tries to squash Gilbert, but he jumps out of the way just in time. This will start a fight.
Antlion
HP: 1,100
My Levels: Cecil 16, Rydia 10, Gilbert 7
Difficulty: 4 (3 if you’re leveled higher than I am :p)
Weakness: Nothing
Steal: Nothing
This really isn’t a difficult battle, it’s more annoying than hard. Everytime you attack normally, Antlion will counter with a Needle attack that will take off 30-40 HP (a lot for Rydia and Gilbert). Have Cecil attack all the way, Rydia use her Chocobo summon, and let Gilbert use potions or his Medicine command (it doesn’t add a lot of HP back, but every little bit helps!). Keep doing this, and Antlion will go down without too much of a fight. You get 800 gil and 500 EXP from this battle, and that should be enough to get Cecil another level.
Gilbert will be in disbelief about how the Antlion became hostile. Cecil explains how the number of monsters has increased as of late. Rydia suggests that we get to Rosa quickly, Cecil agrees. This is where you wish you had an EmergencyExit, but if you don’t, fight your way out. When you’re out, get back on the hovercraft and go to Kaipo. Save here, you’ll find out why soon enough. Use the DesertLight on Rosa. She’ll start to feel better. Apparantly, Rosa came to Kaipo because she thought Cecil died in the earthquake at Mist. She alsy confirms that Golbeze is in control of the Red Wings now. Rosa asks if Rydia can cast fire, and we all know Rydia can’t. Rosa then insists on joining you for the trip to Mt. Hobs. Cecil originally rejects the idea, but Gilbert convinces him.
That night, Gilbert goes outside to play his harp, and asks why Anna had to leave him. A monster pops out of nowhere!
Sahagin
HP: A lot
My Levels: Gilbert 8
Difficulty: 1
Steal: Nothing
Weakness: Nothing
This particular Sahagin has about a billion HP. Fortunately, after Gilbert hits on his first attack, the ghost of Anna appears, telling Gilbert that he isn’t as weak as he thinks he is. Keep attacking. Eventually the Sahagin will be defeated, and Gilbert will gain 800 EXP, and most likely another level. Anna leaves Gilbert again, but urges him to not allow Golbeze to get all the crystals.
You’re back in the house again with Cecil, and now Rosa is in your party. Now you can go to Mt. Hobs. I would consider changing up your formation and rows so that Cecil is the only one in the front, with Rydia, Rosa, and Gilbert in the back. Enter Mt. Hobs. Rosa asks Rydia to try and cast fire. Rydia won’t, because she hates fire. Cecil explains that because of the Bomb Ring’s inferno, Mist was destroyed, and that she’s afraid of it. Rosa tells her that she’s the only one who can melt the ice and if she doesn’t, more people will be in danger. Rydia ends up casting fire, and now you can go on.
Next time – Mt. Hobs & Fabul

KeymasterGood idea about changing the formation to Cecil in front and the other three in back…I usually leave Edward (Gilbert) up front and he gets killed often.
I used to die against those six bombs at Mt. Hobs. Back in like 1995.

ParticipantFor some odd reason, I always liked Edward(gilbert). I have a thing for Bards and I don’t know why.

ParticipantThinking about antlions reminds me of SimAnt, god damn they were scary. Almost as much as that fucking spider.
You have to remember, though; the very thing that makes you a nerd is that your enthusiasms are totally unrelatable and non-marketable to most of the world. For example, anime and celibacy. - Seanbaby

ParticipantI liked the Lion King, with the part with the mole in the beginning that pops from the ground and says "news from the underground"
