Not sure if this link will work. I will log out and test it. If it doesn't, I will edit the post.

ParticipantI can test it for you. I usually speed the emulator up and use walk-through-walls cheat to fly through everything. Just find out a way for LYS to upload the ROM and I'll play it in about… one or maybe two days.
One thing, though, from your photos… Who in the world is Xu Long? Don't you mean Xu Rong*? :)

ParticipantYes, I do, except his name was actually Xu Long, not Xu Rong. The names often get mixed up and confused with Zhu Rong, who 'served' with Meng Huo.

ModeratorI foresee a discussion of epic dispute (assuming that the Yu Ji/Gan Ji debate is epic…).
Still, all of the games I know of list his name as Xu Rong, as do wikipedia and kongming.net; none have Xu Long.

ParticipantYeah, it inspired me to do a bit more research as well. Plenty of the RotK games have him as Xu Long. No worries, its an easy fix, and will be updated tonight along with further officer updates. I'll be emailing LYS tonight with an updated version, perhaps having all the officers updated. Note to any who get to playtest the game before I get to work extensively with text… Cao Cao will not be recruitable, even with the gemsword… so ya might as well skip him. Also, Though in game text has not been changed to reflect it as of yet, Han Zhong is not available, making QingZhou made to be defeated the hard way.

I'll have some time to burn through quick; where does the mod go up to? Ji Zhou / Jing Zhou?

ParticipantThe version you have has officer changes through Shu. The change needs to be made for the Han Zhong effect, but nothing huge. I have Wu officers done on my end, and after a good bit of working it out on paper, am ready to input the rest of the generals. I'll send it to ya tonight (very shortly, really). Then to the matter of changing the text.

ParticipantOk, folks. I have sent a new version to LYS that has the officer changes (names and stats) done through the entire game. I need to do a lot of work on portraits still, and all the text. In the current version, Cao Cao can still be grabbed with the gemsword, but that won't be in the final version. I'll keep adding some pics to the album listed in a prior post in this thread. Time to start playtesting for me! Hope any who try what is done so far enjoy!

KeymasterJust went through Hu Lao Gate. It's definitely challenging, I had to level up to get Ye Huo to beat the Fan Shui Guan battle. You have figured out that adding weapon power does a lot for the enemy, their physical attacks are much improved.
That's the old rom though. A bit later today I'll download the new version that you just sent and upload it. Just been busy with the July 4th festivities already starting.

ParticipantARGH, I WANT TO PLAY IT

ParticipantYeah, and to help out in Shu, I have upped all the officer's defense. I'll make some note of it somewhere in story text noting how the officers of Shu have learned to use the terrain's natural defenses to their advantage. They are all 188 or better in that area for defense.

ParticipantI will be working on the text starting early next week. Not sure how long it will take me… depends on how my patience goes with it. Thanks! Please alert me of any mistakes you see, and read this thread for hints and changes still coming that will be used with the text changes!

ParticipantYou don't mind if I add feedback here often?
I'm starting Chapter 1, just a note that I've recognized that you've changed text here and there, though the "mother" still says Tao Qian and has the word "it" in caps. :)
About the officers… Our allies seem a bit too weak, maybe? Especially Hua Xiong, expected more from him, though he was I guess a failure in history, as well as Li Ru's intelligence. Also, I suggest doing something with Lu Bu so that he doesn't start in the default party, thus explaining his switching sides from Ding Yuan, not joining Dong Zhuo from the start. You can still make him unbilletable, you know.
July 4, 2010 at 3:49 am #37434cabalpapa
ParticipantYeah, the text is still emerging. I am having a few issues with the DoaED and text editor writing over themselve sin the case of Tao Qian. His officer slot (in Shu) was given to Qiao Zhou. That'll get straightened out. I noticed the double capital myself. Again, I'll change that this coming week.
As for the officers… Part of them not being great is part of the challenge. Lu Bu is almost so essential (see the previous sentence) that I think he needs to be in the starting group… else that problem would be even greater. Li Ru's intelligence is higher than any strategist you'd have in the original version for quite some time, including if you recruited Li Ru himself. I think he's more than fine. Typically, I end up using him as my strategist (and am happy with him there) until I get Jia Xu.
As a side note, I've made everyone billetable (at least, I think I have). Part of my design stretches the common principals of party designing. Zhang Ji (obtained in ChangAn) has not so good stats… but I bet you use him! There is a reason Dong relied on Lu Bu so heavily… I feel the early stages of the game really personify this wonderfully.
Please keep adding feedback, though. Tweeks and changes can be made. I'm waiting for people to get to battles like NanYang (assuming they don't recruit Cao Cao as they won't be able to in the final version), JiZhou, and ChangSha. ChangAn is no walk in the park, either. I haven't gotten there yet, but the last battle may very well need to be toned down. I cut some troop totals down in anticipation of it being nuts.
