ParticipantLol, well, I found an interesting bug. The current version up will need to be changed. Currently, I have the event after defeating Yuan Shu removed. Apparently that event includes creating the bridge and such. There is no progressing through even after defeating Nan Yang. Hmmm, will have to figure that one out.
I didn't test Cao Cao and the gemsword, but I have a save state right at Yang Zhou. So I think I shall go see how that one is working so I can try to work on both of them at once.

ModeratorJust started playing around with this one last night. Just beat Yuan Shu/Shao. Their strength surprised me at first so I had to do some grinding and elixer buying to beat em. Seeing Guan Yu's mug on Cai Yong is kinda strange but so far so good…

ParticipantPOrtraits haven't been all fixed yet. Hopefully you don't have the version with the broken Yuan Shu. I think I have some of those events figured out and how to take care of them in the text editor. If you take out the 'command' line at the end before the event, it seems to not offer the yes-no choice in game.

ModeratorHere's my overall feedback thus far…
Things I liked:
– The Han Zhong thing was cool. I like surprises and storyline changes :)
– Also liked the messager after Dong Zhuo leaves. "Hi, I'm here to tell you that we're going to kick your arse".
– Text changes and deviations from the original story.
– I like the officer choices at the beginning. Dong Zhuo is like a fat bully from middle school :P
Things I didn't like:
– Still referring to Tao Qian everywhere. That wouldn't make sense for Dong Zhuo historically. Maybe change Tao Qian to Emperor Ling? He Jin? He Miao?
– Portraits (I know you are going to fix this).
– Drastic difficulty changes. The whole Yellow Turban area was cake until the Qing Zhou frontal assault then it went way up again with the Yuan Shu / Yuan Shao battle. Would prefer or a more gradual increase. Either by increasing earlier Yellow Scarve difficulty or toning down the YS/YS battle a bit. Otherwise you end up having to grid a bunch at one particular stage.

ParticipantThe difficulty level defeinately fluctuates throughout the game. It is built more on culminating battles and storyline. I'll likely change Tao Qian to He jin. It is mostly that way as I was trying to fight the overwriting that was being done between the text editor and the officer changer.
The difficulty is overall much more difficult, however I did not want every battle to be hard. There are levels to go through. Culminating battles are all predominently hard, and other areas have their own strengths. For instance, Yuan Shao's area is mostly easy, until you hit JiZhou. Jing Zhou area is sporadic (Liu Biao there), as ChangSha is definately hard, and the AnSha ability makes some other battles pretty hard. All of Shu is difficult due to the high defense of officers there and most of the officers generally being smarter rather than stronger. This makes those battles trickier, especially with some of the long walks between areas. I found I had to go through that area with a heavy strategist party, which made the traveling very difficult.
I do need to make some changes, but a lot of what I was doing was getting the basics done, and adding in flavor. Now I need to go back and fine tune. Personally, I like the difficulty in Chapter 2: it provides a huge wake-up call, and demonstrates the allied front that was put against DZ. And honestly, I've made Chapter 1 much harder than the original game.

ModeratorCao Cao joined me…Yay! Now I'll be unstoppable MUHAHAHAHA!
Sun Jian AP 80? in the Dong Zhuo area!?! Ouch…glad he didn't hit me. He was too busy using Qi Show and Jie Ce… :D

ParticipantCao Cao will not be available in the final version, as I have posted so many times. I still don't quite have that event and such working the way I want it to. To get the correct feel for the game, I'd advise going back and doing it without Cao Cao.

ModeratorJust take away the gold key. I posted instructions. No gold key = no Cao Cao.

ParticipantWhen I am able to get and use a hex editor, perhaps I shall.

ModeratorThere are free ones you can download. I'd highly recommend getting one and playing with it a bit. There are several things you can change in the hex that are well documented:

If and when you use a hex editor, I'd also recommend using doaetable.tbl from the Text editor program. If you have that rom open and are using that table, you'll be able to see all kinds of text in the rom.

Hey Cao Cao and Sun Jian, say hello to my little friend…the crossbow.

I'm not a big fan of changing the starting equipment to daggers, for what it's worth. It really just increases the starting hump that you have to pass over, and it doesn't make the rest of the game any harder. Just a sort of barrier-to-entry thing.

ParticipantSorry folks that I haven't put any time into this in a bit. I've been doubling up on my courses with the intent to have my Masters Degree done by mid-February. Romance 9 and FF Tactics have been taking up my time, along with playing the surprisingly deep and entertaining Heroes of Three Kingdoms. I haven't made it anywhere near endgame yet at all, but it seems rich with story so far. Not much challenge, however.
I'd like to try Romance 11. What system was it for? How was the playstyle like? I think I tried 10 before (the one where you could be any individual, whether it be ruler or grunt or anything in between), and didn't really care for it much. Way too much micro-management in that game.
