ParticipantI've noticed that neither Chun Yuqiong nor Lu Yi (both at ChangAn gate) are recruitable and I aim for them to be. That is leftover from those slots previously not being available in the original. I'll amke sure that gets corrected.

ParticipantHmmm, I found an interesting 'bug'. I'm sure that someone has likely encountered this before, and it's not really a bug, but it was new to me. Since I had the initial two slots for ZF and GY be billetable, Li Ru was sitting on the bench come time for those two to head off to the castles in JingZhou after Shu. Instead of Li Ru going, it took the person in his place, which for me was Zuo Ci (Zhuge Liang). That kinda sucks… I could change that, obviously, by making LR non-billetable… hmmm, any suggestions?
July 6, 2010 at 2:45 pm #37437Link
ParticipantYou definitely should make Li Ru and Lu Bu non-billetable. The main reason I suggest this is because many people would simply put some useless officers that they recruited on the field in their places and send them to Jingzhou, then continue to use Li Ru and Lu Bu ALONG with their successors. NO. Not acceptable. Make Li Ru and Lu Bu non-billetable and send them to Jing.
Meanwhile, I've finished Chapter 1 of the game. Sorry for slow progress, I've been busy yesterday. Well, rewinding to the start, maybe you can change Zhang Shi Ping and Cui Zhou Ping to something more familiar to Dong Zhuo's story? Or at least put their names into two words (Zhang Shiping, Cui Zhouping).
Zhang Jao can be Zhang Jue (or Jiao, for KOEI fans?). ;)
The guy at Tie Men Xia still says Han Zhong may be recruited, when, after several tries and opening up your mod, he isn't.
What else… Oh, another suggestion. About the strength thing, I understand that the allied officers aren't the best of the best, but I'm saying: Dong Zhuo is way stronger than Hua Xiong. Sure, Zhuo was strong, but he was still a guy that barely moved around in his bed. Meanwhile, Hua Xiong was, I assume, a capable general, still being able to move so high up in Zhuo's ranks. Just for the reasonability of it I would suggest raising Xiong's strength a bit higher (please?). :)
So far it was simply awesome, and at the same time seriously difficult. Zhang Jao and Zhang Bao were the strongest opponents, honestly wish I had them on my team. Liang was no piece of cake either, but compared to his brothers… Honestly, Ma Yuan Yi and Han Zhong were the only easy enemies here. But, you know what? I like that difficulty. As long as it's not Nintendo Hard, it's pretty awesome, lets me spend more time leveling up, gets me more experience. :D On to Chapter 2.

ParticipantFinished Chapter 2 (not right now, I'm just logging what I did earlier).
Sun Ce attacked Sun Jian at Fan Shui Guan? LOL! Know you have to get there, but that was really funny.
I went "holy shit" at Yuan Shu and Yuan Shao, nearly died from that. And… I went on to Cao Cao and Guan Yu, definitely died there. Indeed, really formidable opponents, seemed like a Zhou Yu battle every time (yeah, Zhou Yu's An Sha was the hardest battle). But then, it was of course beatable and great, leveled up a lot to use better tactics and to have some meat shield on me to survive a few more rounds, and actually beat the whole level. Well, everyone was unrecruitable, but I guess it's more fitting for the storyline. And, as I've just defeated all the well-known warlords of the time, I assume I won't be seeing them for just a bit… hopefully. Wondering who Chapter 3 is. :)
Li Jue, Fan Chou, and Zhang Cen were good additions, made up for the inability to recruit enemy officers. I sorta expected Zhang Ji to be more of a fighter rather than a strategist. Interesting.
Is Huangfu Song recruitable? I am assuming so, but I'm currently past the area. Just curious; by story Song was assumedly under Dong Zhuo, as he was an Imperial officer and Zhuo took control of the court.
One more thing, another reminder to fix. Yuan Shao's the leader of the coalition? But I just fought him at Fan Shui. :P
Awesome job once again, on to Chapter 3.
July 6, 2010 at 3:26 pm #37439Link
ParticipantChapter 3 finished.
I see that you haven't boosted the officers' stats here too much; well, at least not that much compared to what I just got through in Chapter 2. Just a bunch of guys with large troop counts here, is all. Well, other than Ji Ling and Zhang Xun, two beasts there. It's great that everyone's recruitable in this area, especially when I feel like using a meat shield when fighting Yuan Shu and the feared Cao Cao.
Only text suggestion might be changing Xu Yuan Zhi (a.k.a. Xu Zhe/Shu) to someone else, though I guess Shui Jing/Sima Hui can pretty much fit in as a neutral hermitish guy anyway. As well, instead of having Shui Jing say Fu Long and Feng Chu, thus referring to Zhuge Liang and Pang Tong, why not just have him say the names of the new ZGL and PT?
July 6, 2010 at 3:31 pm #37440cabalpapa
ParticipantYuan Shao does indeed 'lead' the coalition, but as we are often reminded, never takes the front lines. Sun Jian was the one to break through Dong's line successfully in history.
Huangfu Song is recruitable, and I intend to make Chun Yuqiong and Lu Yi recruitable, as well. The fact they aren't is left over from Dong Min and Fen Chou (in those slots) not being able to in the original. I'll correct that.
Sun Ce won't be attacking… it'll be someone else. Or what I thought to do was have him fleeing the area from attacking you because Yuan Shu didn't give him food.
I'm going to have to make Li Ru and Lu Bu unbilletable… which might make me buff up Li Ru in some way to make him more playable in the starting cast. I wasn't aware of this fact (first time really working on a mod this heavily), so I did not anticipate this issue.
If you think those battles are hard, you are in for some real doozies soon.
July 6, 2010 at 4:36 pm #37441Link
ParticipantChunyu Qiong and Lu Yi should be recruitable, no need to keep them away from the player. I probably would never try and get them anyway.
And by Yuan Shao leading the coalition, I meant that I meet Yuan Shao in the burnt Luo Yang, near where Zhang Cen (I believe) is standing. He says he's the leader of the coalition, but apparenly he's an ally? That's what I meant. He's supposed to be an enemy. Correct me if I'm wrong.
As well, almost forgot, Fan Chou has like 220 STR, and yet he has a strategist's portrait? And I don't think Huo Hu's powder line really suits a heavy fighter. Just saying.
July 6, 2010 at 5:14 pm #37442cabalpapa
ParticipantI haven't gone through text and portraits. Commenting on them as of yet is a bit ahead of me. Yuan Shao will be in Luo Yang telling Dong how the coalition burned down Luo Yang and blamed it on him…
I may not change all the portraits between 'strategist' and 'warrior'. There could easily be scraggly looking warriors and such, lol. Kuai Yu currently has Xingdao Rong's portrait, and I like it that way in that case.
Chapter 3 is Yuan Shu (NanYang is difficult).
Chapter 4 is Yuan Shao (JiZhou is near impossible until you level a bit).
Chapter 5 is Liu Biao.
Chapter 6 is Shu like you've never seen it before… ChengDu is rough!
Chapter 7 is Wu, with all 3 Suns alive and well.
Chapter 8 is Liu Bei.
Chapter 9 is Sima Yi's new world order… I'm not sure if Luo Yang will even be beatable at this point… might need tweeking.
July 6, 2010 at 6:08 pm #37443Link
ParticipantLOL So I guess Sun Jian will keep Dong Zhuo's big hairy face?
July 6, 2010 at 6:14 pm #37444cabalpapa
ParticipantLol… sadly, no

ParticipantFinished Chapter 4.
Noticed that you haven't changed any portraits here other than the Yuan brothers, changed to a blue color. Guo Si was a great addition to my party, once again too bad he doesn't level up. Bo Hai was pretty OK, no extremely difficult enemy officers other than the 1k+ troop count, which had existed in the original DoaE. And then I got Jia Xu. OMG, the best recruit so far. 245 INT, 1k+ troops, as well as STR that surpasses other strategists. Why does he have to leave later…? D:
Anyway, Xu Shou's fortress was the polar opposite of Bo Hai, with Yan Liang and Wen Chou continuously heavy hitting me. And Lu Bu always gets hit with whatever tactic Xu Shou throws. Gotta do something with his intelligence, it sucks. But thank God they're recruitable. I indeed have them both, but I honestly suggest making Liang and Chou unrecruitable, since they're… Yan Liang and Wen Chou? I mean, it's what you did to Guan Yu and Zhang Fei in Chapter 2, why not here? And with Liang and Chou existing, it means two of the plot-related officers will just stay out until the entire party reaches a troop count way over Liang and Chou, far into Jing perhaps.
At Guang Zong joins Gongsun Zan. He makes me just forget about Guo Si. 210 STR and 190 INT, along with Zhao Yun's pretty face :D. Just love him right now, he's practically great at attacking and casting tactics, and he's a heavy hitter that doesn't get hit with every single tactic (LU BU).
Ji Zhou was something to remember. Yuan Shao, Yuan Shu, Zhang He, Ju Shou, and Cao Cao. Of course, we've met Shao, Shu, and Cao previously, all overpowered supermen in some way. And Zhang He, only 1 STR behind Yuan Shu's 220, with Ju Shou's overpowering INT. D: Usually there should be an easy kill among the enemy ranks, but this time it's just… overwhelming. And fun. Yeah, I had previously killed off Yuan Shu, eliminate him. I died once or twice, but in the end I succeeded in wiping out the enemy army and getting Yuan Shao's head. Ji Zhou was certainly the best battle so far.
Only one typing suggestion. Yuan Shao shouldn't say "You killed my brother" at Ji Zhou, but instead he should say "You defeated my brother." This is because while sometimes you indeed can choose to kill Yuan Shu, sometimes you choose not to. And when Shao says "You killed my brother" and Shu's just there right beside him it's sort of… weird.
Anyway great job once again on this chapter, on to Chapter 5.

ParticipantFinished Chapter 5.
I remember the Jin Xuan battle from the original DoaE as one of the easiest battles in the game, just like Ma Yuan Yi from Chapter 1. But here, Wei Pin (no idea who that is) and Kuai Liang are way mightier than Jin Xuan and Wang Lei. Pin with his 200+ STR and Lei with 200+ INT, thank goodness it's only the two of them. I did recruit Kuai Liang I think, or at least tried to, just for the sake of removing him from the random encounters. Then I went to Chang Sha.
Gee, Liu Qi was right. "This castle will be very difficult to conquer." First of all, Liu Qi has An Sha. AN SHA. At Chapter 5. At Jing Zhou. An Sha. In case you didn't hear me correct, I repeat. An Sha. That's spelled A.N. S.H.A. Yeah, that's right. The thing that can kill you in one blow. And Lu Bu falls for it EVERY SINGLE TIME. I thought he was supposed to be non-An Sha-able? Anyway with his 55 INT he died on the second round, had to revive him. And other than Liu Qi there's Huang Zhong, beastly once again, and I think you lowered Wei Yan's STR? And Huang Zu isn't too much of an easy kill either.
But I made it through, battle wasn't as hard as Ji Zhou in my opinion, but still pretty difficult nontheless. Huang Zhong and Wei Yan are good additions to my party, especially Zhong, though both are unfortunately unable to level up. Oh well, I assume it's part of not being plot-related. So I go on to Gui Yang, to Cai Mao's "offer you a sleeping quarters" thing. Well, that battle was actually easy! After all that I've gone through, it was honestly a sort of break for me, with no big threat.
The last castle, was it Wu Ling or Ling Ling… LOL Liu Zong doesn't even have a portrait? It's just all black. :P And Liu Biao has An Sha. Again. >_> Damn. But oh well, got over that castle. Encountered Pang Tong on my way to Gui Yang, the same Pang Tong with 7003 soldiers or something, no big change to that battle. Still difficult, but quite managable with a party of several heavy hitters and power pills. His 240 INT doesn't really match Jia Xu's 245, but I have to stick with it as Xu left just then at Gui Yang. WHY OH WHY?
Ma Liang and Ma Su, still Ma Liang and Ma Su, were just… not really content with them. Su levels up, but he has just decent stats, and Liang has a 230 INT that's better than Li Ru but on the other hand he doesn't level up. Anyway, got Zuo Ci, who replaces Zhuge Liang. LOL He has 10 STR. That's even lower than Liu Chan! As well, his 250, NOT 255 INT won't give him Jin Xian, I know that. I've been playing DW5 today with Zuo Ci, one of the two strongest weapons in the game, and here I get 10 STR. LOL!
Awesome chapter once again, with great recruits. (You indeed should boost Li Ru a bit, he's not quite suitable for the party at times.) :D
Oh yeah, and Tiger Wang's still there!

ParticipantShort post, trip to Shu.
I've encountered Cao Cao. 10,000+ troops. Same STR/INT. An Sha. AN SHA. A.N. S.H.A. Argh I hate you Cao Cao. :P The original Lu Bu killing battle was actually pretty easy, but this, this is really damn hard. It felt so great seeing Cao Cao die before my eyes saying his life was an essay in betrayal. MWAHAHA. Die Cao Cao. I also ran into several other Shu generals, eventually had to Gullwing back to Chang Sha to go to the inn and to Gui Yang to save before continuing on again. Smoke pot…

KeymasterI played last night and that's where I am link. Just beat the first gate in Shu and recruited Fei Shi (or Fei Wei maybe?).
So far it's been a good challenge. At the same time I've been pretty far ahead in levels throughout so it's made the sailing a bit more smooth.
