In the example above Cheng Du would be sitting where Xu Zhou is and vice versa. So if you walk out of Cheng Du you're in the Xu Zhou area.
But the cool part is that Tao Qian and all the stores you need for lvl 1 would be in Cheng Du.
You could do anything you want with this. Ie…any town that has a castle in it you can put Tao Qian in and swap it with Xu Zhou.

October 8, 2011 at 9:52 pm #38236Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterInteresting. I suppose however that we're still somewhat limited because there are some towns without castles in them, and some castles without the saving place where we can 'invite' Liu Bei.
Reading all these different threads, I'm glad I waited on finishing the Yuan Shu mod. Even years ago it seemed there was plenty we could do, but in reality back then we were only scratching the surface.
Quote:Like you invite Liu Bei and he ends up at some other castle…Haha, yea, that'd be great.
Quote:Bumping this thread as it may be useful for future mods.Made this page sticky along with the how to edit portraits with Feidian page, so they'll stay at the top of the DoaE forum instead of getting buried.
Still can't believe all this started by us screwing around with challenges and I think Huo Hu's adventure with the Song's, Yang Jin, etc.

Capital cities are places like Xu Zhou, Chang An, Nan Yang, Gui Yang, etc… Then there are non-capital cities that have a castle in them like Chang Sha. Then there are cities that have no castle at all like Qing Zhou.
You can swap between castle cities and non-capital cities that have a castle in them. For example, if I swapped Xu Zhou's castle entrance AND record/invite place with Chang Sha then Chang Sha can be a capital city but then Xu Zhou would not be. The number of capitals is limited (1 per chapter) so we can't really get around that. At least not without more debugging and research but that feature would be low on my list. I'm currently interested in expanding the number of portraits but that is looking like a daunting task so far.
October 9, 2011 at 4:35 am #38238MiDKnighTModeratorWell I ran into some snafus with castle swapping. I had originally tested on a game that was mostly complete. But with a new game if I move a later castle to the Xu Zhou spot it's a ghost town. I think some events have to kick in before a town is populated… Doh!
October 9, 2011 at 4:46 am #38239Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterHaha, that's no good. There are event codes after each castle battle right? Or at least I remember seeing them when editing text from an enemy post-battle.

There is a way the game knows exactly where you are at every step. Here is the format of said address:0C 05 07 12
In this example, OC is the vertical position in your "zone". 05 is the vertical zone that you are in. 07 is the horizontal position in your "zone". 12 is the horizontal "zone" that you are in. The game uses these addresses to place items, location of castles, location of battles, etc…
How do you know your current address? You have to look at the memory while the game is running. For example, in FCE Ultra you open the Hex editor and look at 60-63 in memory (found this from the Meteorstrike post on Gamefaqs).
Here's a pic from the Yuan Shao mod:
So where am I standing? I'm standing in zone 7-10 (7 vertical, 10 horizontal) and I'm standing at 01-0F within that zone. So I'm standing on the last block of the top row in that zone.
Concept 3: Warps. When you walk into LouSang village it may seem like you're just walking in the door. You're actually not! You are teleporting from the location on the world map to the entrance of the village (off the world map). In the rom (at around 0x1c3##) there are warps stored. There is the address of the place on the world map followed by the address of the entrance of a place. Want to move LouSang village? EASY, just search for it's "address" everywhere in the rom and replace it with a new address. You can put it anywhere on the world map. Want to swap Xu Zhou and Cheng Du? EASY, just find their addresses (on the world map) and swap them. Now when you walk into what looks like Xu Zhou you will actually walk into Cheng Du castle. So you want to move LuoSang village… But there's a problem… You have a location picked out but there's nothing there but grass. You want that little house thingy there right? That brings us to the next part. The hard part…GRAPHICS.
Funny that the hard part is now easy with the map editor.
Anyway, I'm wondering about this FCE Ultra Hex Editor. I use FCE Ultra all the time for NES emulation but I don't see a Hex Editor option. I see a Debugger with the memory option, but the interface does not look the same and thus I can't find the 60-63 region telling what spot exactly each one is.
I'm looking to move Lou Sang WAY southeast on that continent (the part that is generally un-used).

I think I have a post in this thread somewhere that tells you how to move Lou Sang.
October 14, 2011 at 6:57 pm #38242Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterQuote:Isn't that part out of bounds? The northeast is where it is out of bounds (and un-reachable unless you add a bridge). The southeast you can go naturally and at the far southeast of the continent you can see land across to the south that is Wei (obviously, I would not have a bridge going there).
Quote:I think I have a post in this thread somewhere that tells you how to move Lou Sang. The first post. But I can't find the Hex Editor for FCE Ultra, which will tell me the spot I want to put Lou Sang at (when I walk to the spot, like your picture says). It's in Region 41.

So for LouSang, that should take up two spots on the map right? Being that the village graphics take up two spots.

Also check the Yuan Shao mod post around page 7. There was 1 extra warp for LuoSang I think 1 spot south or west or something of the main warp.
October 14, 2011 at 8:16 pm #38246Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterNah, it takes up two (horizontal).
So I open up the hex editor and load the rom, which table though? I tried the doaetable and couldn't find the lou sang address – which is 09 07 06 13 + 09 07 07 13

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingOctober 14, 2011 at 8:22 pm #38247MiDKnighTModeratorOK to know where you are currently standing:
Debug –> Hex Editor –> Then look at the 4 entries starting at 000060
To find the Luo Sang address in the ROM:
Debug –> Hex Editor –> View –> Rom File –> Search (Hex)
Edit: The address for Luo Sang is 09070713 but also search for 09070613. There's another *sneaky* warp for Luo Sang. Change every occurrence of those 2 values to your new home for Luo Sang.
October 14, 2011 at 9:08 pm #38248Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterYea that's what I did. First changed the hex for 09070613 but that didn't switch it. Had to change them both. Got it now, great. Thanks Niahak and MiDKnighT.
