Lord Yuan Shu
KeymasterNo the thing is, if you stick someone else’s recruit event code there, you’ll recruit that character instead of the one you’re talking to. For example I tried to get the last version of Lu Bu with 7003 soldiers to join…I tried putting Pang Tong’s recruit event code there but instead of Lu Bu joining, I got another Pang Tong.
Not entirely sure on what happens if you stack both event codes there but probably the first one will happen and maybe the second code is ignored?

ModeratorI was afraid of that…
I guess it also means that even if I moved spmeone’s code elsewhere, then I’d still get the original guy. Argh!
…I guess I’ll have to remove a character that’s normally recruitable to make room for the new guy or else fudge around with what encoutners are where… *sigh*

Exactly. Lots of switching around character’s positions to make the story work.

ModeratorOkay! I’ve decided whom will appear in every battle, from start to finish!
I still have some questions, though. How do I change the NPC appearances? Zhuge Jin the doorkeeper, for example, will be replaced by someone else.
And if I move a "We want to join you!" event form one character to another, will it still make the original asker vanish?

KeymasterWell if you switch text around or rewrite text, I’d try to keep the same character amount because like I was saying with the Yuan Shu mod, it’s become corrupted with the script flowing over in some areas (Jingzhou with all the text seems particularly dangerous).
Zhuge Jin? You mean the little character that looks like a maid who tells you to go wait at Nan Yang for Zhu ge Liang (at Zhuge’s house)? Anyway I dont’ think you can change them, only the playable guys. Maybe you can change the sprites for the NPC’s, but you would change ALL of the NPC’s that had that sprite if you did that.

ModeratorThere’s a way to change townsperson sprites, I think. I haven’t sorted it out yet.
LYS, did your script get corrupted in multiple places? One would be an outlier, but multiple sounds like it would be an issue in the text editor.

ModeratorThere’s definitely a way to change the sprites of townspeople, as the data must be there to tell the game what sprites to use!
You have to locate *WHICH* data to change, however, or something silly will happen…
Also, a sneak preview:

No, I’m not telling you who this is — you’ll have to wait and find out!

KeymasterThat’s a cool pic. I tried to check the file name but you were too smart. :)
Not sure about how bad my text overflow is, I’m just assuming if it’s broken now in Jingzhou it’d be ridiculous by the time I got to Wei. No way of knowing until I get back into the swing of it though.

If you delete the event they will not move. But there are join you events which can be duplicated as the officer who joins is the speaker. If you want someone to move without joining you might try pilfering the speak and run away event used by Cao Cao and others earlier in the game. Those events may do other things, though, so there could be consequences.

KeymasterWow nice Jin Xuan…can’t wait to start his adventure :) After you complete a few sections release a beta version plz!!
Interesting idea there James, putting the event code for Cao Cao leaving at Hu Lao Gate. I do wonder how that would effect things though? That’d be a DoaE mystery I’m sure.

ModeratorOkay, all the images are decided and ready (although I may do a bit of background editing on a couple…)
Another sneak peak! (I blame Castlevania 4).

ModeratorI wasn’t planning on posting another avatar until it came as acyual gameplay (even if the gameplay was somewhat limited), but how can I say no to my fans when I get a request like that?

But this is the final avatar I’ll post that’s not bundled with gameplay! I think.
