ParticipantHiya folks! With the additions to the DoaEditor, I have been working on a new Rom (I will indeed go back and finish Dong Zhuo sometime soon, too). This rom features Liu Biao and all his mediocrity. It is certainly far from test trials, but the work to be done could be done rather quickly (text will take a while). I don't have any new sprites or portraits loaded in yet, but will do some extensive looking through the guide to see if I can manage the technicals of the task. I am doing a bit of map changing thus far, with some storyline twists and changes that hopefully work as well as I want them to (hoping I have as good a feel for the triggers as I think I do). I have a hex editor as well, so I might be able to manage some minor changes using that (will come in handy for DZ mod, too). Hopefully soon it will be ready for some initial alpha testing, and I can get a volunteer to test it without giving all the info away to others. I will let ya know, but I would expect the final project within three weeks.

ModeratorNice. I had been debating about doing a Liu Biao mod a few months ago. All yours. Remember that Gan Ning and Huang Zhong were temporarily under the service of Liu Biao if I recall…

ModeratorYes they were, but the trick will be how to get them removed IE; Xu Shu event or Guan Yu/Zhang Fei removal event.
MidKnighT you still need to finish up the Gongsun Zan mod if I recall… that is, after you get that menu tinkered with!
Im also still waiting for the Nanman Mod which was floating around here for a while…
MidKnighT are you testing the Rise of Ieyasu mod as well?

ModeratorQuote:MidKnighT are you testing the Rise of Ieyasu mod as well?No I haven't been able to devote much time to DoaE lately (I know…sad). I'll give it a whirl when it is closer to completion perhaps.

ParticipantGan Ning and Huang Zhong have already been accounted for. Wei Yan played a short stint with Liu Biao as well, as did many of the (then subordinate) Jingzhou governors. There are many fresh looks planned for this mod, as I try to find different ways to conceive things. There are bits and pieces together so far, but a lot will slowly come together. I am taking a different approach at designing this mod, too, so we'll see how the final outcome comes out. If I can figure out some minor hex editing things, I should be able to do everything I want done. I have high hopes/aspirations for this.

ModeratorSounds great! the key to any mod though, is sticking with it til completion. I figure about 90-95%% of mods started never make it b/c it takes a LOT of time to conceive, edit, correct and such. Rise of Lu Bu took about 3 months/8+ hrs a day to complete b/c I was just learning how to edit. Rise of Ieyasu took 4 months/8+ hrs a day but is a far superior product.
Just stick with it, and most plot elements come as you work and those o-so-good suggestions and criticisms you will get :smoke:
We've had high hopes and aspirations for a Jin Xuan and Gongsun Zan mod but <cough> nothing so far <cough> :cactuar:

ModeratorJust out of curiousity, how would this mod end? As in, doesnt Liu Biao die and his heirs are just even more gimped versions of himself? Arent they all absorbed by Cao Cao's forces essentiallly turning it into a Wei mod?

ParticipantSonic, part of the object in creating mods of this game are to explore certain "what-if" scenarios connected to what known literature and history we have available. One must be able to think outside the box in those situations. Alternatively, there is a certain time-line available as Liu Biao did have various levels of success before his eventual demise. A more compressed timeline allows for further focus on otherwise unlooked upon details. There are several avenues to go, and I am not necessarily inclined to tell you exactly which way things are going yet. =)

ParticipantI mean, in the above example, the original game even offered a timeline relatively effectiv e upon Liu Bei's successes. While he never really saw Sima Yi's rebellion during his time, the game itself provides a what if scenario (for example, the taking of Luo Yang at the end) and a compressed timeline compared to actual reality. Modding isn't much different, and is sometimes even more accurate than our good friends at Koei.

Moderatorhehe, no worries, I understand completely. If you're still playing the Rise of Lu Bu mod and get enough time to try the total conversion of the Rise of Ieyasu mod, you'll see

ParticipantOk, well the getting going on this is a little slower than I had hoped, but there have been many brainstorms put in place. If I can get this going the way I want it, this mod will be quite different to play. I am still undergoing map modifications, then will work on some hex editing needed to make the modifications work the way I want them, and then will still have plenty of portrait and text work to do after that before the full beta will be available. If I have any specific questions on how to change something that I can't seem to find in the guide, I'll make sure to ask them here.

ModeratorWell, you know what they say about the journey of a thousand miles eh? The biggest challenge really is hexing, and most of it now that isn't either in DOAEditor is generally tactic related stuff and editing shops/town sprites/menus. Best of luck.
Ever finish the Rise of Lu Bu j/w ? :)

ParticipantOk, I have taken a step back to redo some work in the attempt to add a higher level of technicality into this mod. I have expanded the rom using the editor, and also applied the IPS patch using Lunar. However, in the editor, some of the sprites do not show up, and the extra portrait banks are seemingly blank. How do I fill these in? If this info is in the guide, please feel free to reference me directly to that… Once I get that part, I will be able to skyrocket along with production.
