Okay, so I?m going to find out all the details behind the final number of MTP you can achieve in Destiny of an Emperor. I previously thought that it was mostly associated with Zhuge Liang, and while I suspected the number was variable to a degree, I felt that was, by far, the lesser factor. After all, there was a game when I was quite young in which I saved up so much experience in Jingzhou that I was actually able to kill L? Bu with An Sha (I messed up with Zhuge Liang; the details are foggy now?it was still cool). That game my MTP, when I beat the game, was actually less than 90. Further runs through the game seemed to indicate that the earlier I got Zhuge Liang, the more MTP I eventually received.
Enter the Destiny of an Emperor Challenge.
I complete the game having received Zhuge Liang at level 16?something which is very rare, and quite hard to do. Usually fighting a few too many beefy rebels will put you just over into the 17 mark by the time you unify Jingzhou. How was I rewarded? I ended the game with around 122 MTP?a far cry from the usual 135 I tend to wind up with (and Lord Yuan Shu?s two games wound up at 136 and something like 134). This means either I was unlucky, and Zhuge didn?t make much of a difference, or that Zhuge hurts when you get him at too low a level.
(Yes, this is super-nerdy of me. I love Destiny of an Emperor though?leave me alone.
I seek to unravel every secret this game holds from me!)
This thread will be used for the investigation.
May 10, 2006 at 8:12 am #19612Xian Zhu XuandeParticipantWe start with proof that MTP is, indeed, a variable number. When you gain a level-up (be it all, or just some levels) you will be assigned a random MTP bonus. The variance in this bonus seems to be very small (which is probably why it was missed earlier), but it is there. I will verify as I play through my Japanese version of the game.
MTP Progression Chart
1) 10
2) 15
3) 20 (19-20)
4) 25 (24-25)
5) 30 (28-30)
6) 35 (34-35)
7) 40 (39-40)
8) 45
9) 50 (49-50)
10) 55 (54-55)
11) 60
12) 60 (N/A) Curse you, Xu Zhe!

May 10, 2006 at 4:30 pm #19613armyantParticipantFor every level you gain the max MTP you can get per level is 5,
the less amount of MTP will be 3 or 4.
So to get the MAX MTP per Level, you will need to replay again and again, and thats what i doing.
May 10, 2006 at 4:33 pm #19614Xian Zhu XuandeParticipantI updated my MTP progression chart.
armyant, I have also, thus far, come to the same conclusion.
Level 6 was very hard to get a bonus of 5 on, while others were very easy to do consistently. In addition, it was easy to get a bonus of 3 on level 5, while others almost never showed a bonus of 3. This could all be random odds, however.
May 10, 2006 at 4:43 pm #19615Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterSo theoretically we should have over 200 total TP at the end of the game? Err wait we don’t get TP after a certain point right….is that after we get all of the spells?

– The last tactic in the game is Ce Mian, learned on level 31.
– You start the game with 10 TP (I wonder if that number can be 8 or 9?)
– 10+(5*30) = 160
It seems the true potential is 160 MTP, with 159 available to Zhuge Liang.
May 10, 2006 at 4:50 pm #19617Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterWow so we’ve been missing a good 20-30 TP depending on our luck, maybe worse/better. I know for a fact that that would help me in the challenge.

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingMay 10, 2006 at 4:51 pm #19618Xian Zhu XuandeParticipantThat sure seems to be the case!
May 10, 2006 at 7:40 pm #19619Xian Zhu XuandeParticipantNow here is something interesting!
You only get a TP increase when you ahve someone in your party who is able to learn a new tactic! That explains why I was under the impression that not having Zhuge Liang in your party had an adverse affect on your total TPs (leveling up without someone to learn those special tactics costs you losses from your MTP). I noticed this when I hit level 12 without Xu Zhe to learn Fu Bing?not a single MTP bonus for me.
This means that, in order to get a TP bonus on level 12, you have to have someone in your party who can learn Fu Bing. I wonder who might be able to do this? Or you have to actually be level 11 when you get Xu Zhe (I?ll be able to find out if that is possible or not soon).
May 10, 2006 at 8:17 pm #19620Xian Zhu XuandeParticipantUpdate
It seems the only way to get the level 12 MTP bonus would be to have Xu Zhe on your side before the level up. On my game, after the battle with Lu Guang, I had 2,616 experience, and you receive level 12 at 2,518 experience. This means if I had 97 less experience, I would have been able to hire Xu Zhe at level 11, and I would have also received the MTP bonus for this level up.
How about other tacticians?
Huo Hu, though he is l33t enough to learn An Sha, does not learn Fu Bing. Fu Bing is one of the few very special tactics in the game learned only by very special characters. Just to be sure, I checked Cai Yong and Li Ru, the only other two talented advisors you can have at this point. Neither can learn Fu Bing. And yes, Chen Deng and Mi Zhu don?t learn it either.
Is it possible to hire Xu Zhe at level 11?
I am going to make an educated guess that it probably is. 97 experience may be possible to make up by adjusting the number of rebels you face in any given battle. Here?s the catch, though: you would basically have to face the minimum number of rebels in nearly every battle to come close to making a difference. This is the case because in this game I have already been restarting rebel-heavy battles. This certainly wouldn?t be fun, and if done, it would only be done in the name of creating the perfect DoaE game.
Realistic Best MTP: 155
Since I am on a vacation, and I have decided to go all-out (hehe) on figuring out Destiny of an Emperor secrets, I may just try it.
May 11, 2006 at 2:15 am #19621Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterSo about Fu Bing….
Isn’t this the tactic that Zhuge and Pang Tong-types get before Bei Ji? Kind of like the generals who get An Sha had Li Jian before….I don’t know, I’ve always been confused as to what the cutoffs are in intelligence levels/tactics learned. Fu Bing must be for tacticians with a 210 intelligence and above, as Li Ru doesn’t get it and he’s at 200 or so if my memory serves me correctly.
And weren’t you already fighting poor Rebel Forces on this run-through?

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingMay 11, 2006 at 3:12 am #19622Xian Zhu XuandeParticipantThere are basically two types of tacticians in the game?one I call the Ce Mian types, the other I call the Ji Mian or An Sha types (An Sha being a better description because the Ce Mian types learn and later lose Ji Mian). I suspect Fu Bing is a trait of the Ce Mian types, and Xu Zhe must be one of them. All other strategists are An Sha types, and the only reason why you don?t see higher abilities in them is because their intelligence or artificial caps prevent them from getting the best tactics. At least this is how I have observed everything, and who knows, there may be gaps in my knowledge?there certainly was relative to Zhuge Liang and MTP.
Anyway, rambling aside, Fu Bing may be a special tactic, or you may be correct in observing that it is only given to a certain elite class. Too bad we can?t downgrade officer levels to take a better look. For example, tactics like Ji Rou certainly aren?t learned by many.
As I think of it, though, it may truly all be tiered by intelligence. If that is the case, Jin Xian requires 255, and Ce Mian must require something along the lines of 250?
Edit: After some research, the later seems to be the case, and it seems I was probably blowing smoke with the statement at the beginning of this post. For more information, please read this.

Yeah, I?m going to fight the rebels. I got sidetracked with the MTP experiment, though. :)
May 12, 2006 at 12:16 am #19623Xian Zhu XuandeParticipantWell? after much suffering, I have defeated Lu Guang with the lowest possible amount of experience in the game. Every rebel I faced had the lowest possible number. I even keep going until I fought Han Zhong with two 100 soldier rebels, just in case everything came down to 1 experience. My only concern was the fact I had to face Gan Ji.

Level 12 takes place at 2518 experience. I was 67 experience over.
If I had fought the Luo Yang gate battle without Gan Ji, that would not have reduced the experience I earned enough for me to remain at level 11 after this battle. As such, we can safely conclude that 1) it is impossible to get Xu Zhe at level 11 without cheating, and 2) that it is impossible to get a MTP bonus for level 12.

Thus ends your dose of useless DoaE knowledge for today.
May 12, 2006 at 12:29 am #19624Taishi CiParticipantNever before has so much been done so well to learn so little.
Thanks anyways.
May 12, 2006 at 12:32 am #19625Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterFirst of all, there is no such thing as useless DoaE knowledge.
So the max MP is 155? If only Li Ru could learn Fu Bing…
