ModeratorJi Rou being way overpowered — I think I recall discussing this in another mod. Dunno if it was Liu Zheng or RoLB ? I remember some discussions at the time relating to one overwriting the other etc and agreeing good ideas and all that :). I was just fuzzy and couldn't recall heh.
I had to attempt the 'Lu Meng' fight a couple times, but it was workable. Your namesake cooperated which made it easier.
The pirate fight… I just dunno. I think you've forced an ambush as well. I look forward to taking several stabs at it.
Sadly, with RoI coming to a close, I'll have to find something else to do with my time. Maybe another play through of Uncharted Waters New Horizons or something, I dunno. There's always running through the original game fairly quickly again… but… I just so loathe the last few fights. Limited TP makes it soooo irksome. Might have to sit down and try to work on ROTK2 again via the netbook as well. Don't like doing so (not enough screen real estate)… but it's an option.

Awesome mod <3. Five out of five Huo Hu's.
:huohu: :huohu: :huohu: :huohu: :huohu:
Last fight wasn't as bad as I was thinking it was going to be. Left my party as it was mentioned above. Thwart, Zeal, power pill frenzy with steeds. Possibly even had more than 100TP left over by the end. No save state cheese. Enemy AC wasn't as high as I remember it, just GY/ZF afaik. If hadn't hex edit in the steed bug fix … yeah… not so cool.
DoaE has come a long way in the last two years.

ModeratorGlad to hear, just too bad the new adjustements weren't implemented as I'm finding the game was REALLY hard without these adjustments. Thanks for some feedback and hopefully I'll have a balanced and fixed complete release soon

ModeratorHm, for me – early game was a bit rough yes. Never had to fall back to save state abuse for the entire game, although the fight in heaven against Zhao Yun was possibly the hardest… possibly due to general selection at the time and my lack of PoH general farming.
Early on, 'rifles' was down right evil, especially spiked tiles (gates/castles) with a general or two and some riflemen. Beyond the opening of the game 'rifles' wasn't as evil (akin to how it would have been in the regular game… dangerous but not catastrophic). Being able to moderately successfully use bushido early on was helpful. I dunno if you lowered Ieyasu's INT in any of the updates, but having him and others be able to delay bushido hits to not occur against your own party so high in the line up was handy.
For me, War Edge was the end all be all from jingzhou throughout most of the rest of the game. Expensive, but focus and timing it right did well and still caused some problems if enemies got a Revive off (although not catastrophic). Surviving the first two rounds of a fight were the most tense, and but mop up after war edge's were also a bit tense.
I didn't fix Steed's until PoH, it's possible they would have changed strategy throughout the game (or rather, they would have for sure).
I did do some grinding… I believe just before or just after Echigo. This was to buy some of the over priced tridents :). Made finding an area that was safe enough to grind yet rewarding enough to get money interesting (and offset cost of food).
Mototada was perhaps the most interesting general to think about throughout the game. Decent/acceptable stats for when you get him, but the soldier growth was great during his time…. making up for the lack of tactics (the only general lacking tactics iirc?). I believe ZhouCang replaced him (muneyoshi ?).
Speaking of Zhou Cang, the multiple uses of his fake battle intro was awesome <3. I dunno if I ever came across Guan Suo though ?.
All in all, the version of the rom I played – I'd put it on par with RoLB concerning difficulty. Perhaps a bit easier. Granted, I think I finished RoLB just after an update making zeal multitargeted. Also, after of the caocao and other mods prior that had raised difficulty to insanely high… casually enjoyable mods are awesome <3 … which i think is an echo of my review of RoLB :)
After FoW, i'll prolly give RoLB another play through and then RoI again … both of which concerning the balancing tweaks you've made. Dunno how I'll feel about a dumber Lu Bu though :(. Might throw a regular play through in before just to appreciate mods all the more.
Others have said, including myself, but I'll say it again – awesomely done on taking RoI away from a complex mod and turning it into virtually another game. Doom -> Hexen/Strife is a valid analogy for those of us who played them as they came out heh.

ModeratorNew Version Uploaded!
Also, MiDKnighT, I was wondering how to change the hex of the teleport-to castle when you get nuked by Sima Yi. It doesn't seem to follow the normal way that castle or even cave coordinates are written. Maybe an array? I've discovered players get teleported into a mountain range when they get nuked and exit the castle…. might have to change that on the map editor until a fix is found….
Anyways!
I did a lot of experimentation with events to see what kind of new things could be done with them. I thougth the Zhou Cang ambush would be quite amusing to some :P Some generals are REALLY hard to make useful throughout some of the game. Mototada was one who was famous in history but I couldn't find a use to keep him around throughout the game if the player would keep things fresh.
At any rate, just some experimentation with some portraits:

I knew that would make all the difference in the world :P Finally got the most up to date version there will be until MiDKnighT can hopefully figure out that bug! Lots of balancing changes and no more exploiting of War Edge :P

ModeratorMore progress on the infamous bug today but it's still very baffling. The problem is it ends up on ROM page 1 when it shouldn't. The "01" is getting pulled from the stack. It ends up getting pushed onto the stack from the $ED variable which gets populated by the first section below. But…the ROM does this all the time with no problems so trying to figure out what's so different when it goes wrong…which has been very tough so far…
Storing into $ED:
$A947:4C 00 80 JMP $8000 A:00 X:09 Y:5E S:1C P:nvUBdIZC
$8000:A9 01 LDA #$01 A:00 X:09 Y:5E S:1C P:nvUBdIZC
$8002:20 82 C4 JSR $C482 A:01 X:09 Y:5E S:1C P:nvUBdIzC
$C482:85 44 STA $0044 = #$1E A:01 X:09 Y:5E S:1A P:nvUBdIzC
$C484:85 ED STA $00ED = #$1E A:01 X:09 Y:5E S:1A P:nvUBdIzC
Pushing onto stack:
$EF08:A5 ED LDA $00ED = #$01 A:00 X:FC Y:00 S:09 P:nvUBdIZC
$EF0A:48 PHA A:01 X:FC Y:00 S:09 P:nvUBdIzC

ModeratorI'm trying to figure out way back when, when things went wrong the first time… I think it might have been around when we were experiencing those all-out bugs after something major was added. It might have been around when dueling was added to the game. At any rate, you da man and thanks for checking into this

ModeratorJohnny: can't help ya myself, sadly :(.
Making my way through Shu in un-modded game. Forgot about the joy of attempting to squeeze the most out of MTP gains… which is behind me now. Also forgot how easy the early to mid game was for a veteran player. For fun, I've left Zhao Yun in bulleting for the time being.
Two thoughts occur to me.
First: Given the 'warrior' and 'tactician' and '8 tactics' stuff in newer mods… newer DoaE mods don't have to worry so much about MTP gains, right ?
Second: with defend/focus, I wonder if a no-retreat play through of RoI is possible ? IE: to fight EVERY encounter ya come across ?
March 21, 2013 at 12:20 am #42151sonic.penguin
ModeratorIt probably is, its just that sometimes you will unluckily run into the 5-men enemy superstar lineup on a random encounter in a brand new zone/chapter that will crush you almost instantly :P
No retreat? Certainly! No death? Definitely NO!
Quote:Forgot about the joy of attempting to squeeze the most out of MTP gains…Sarcasm?
If you get the chance to do another quick run-through of ROI let me know as I'd like to know what you think of all the tweaks I've made based off of your suggestions.
