ModeratorI'm sure the dong zhuo mod will be out soon enough. LYS has to find a suitable dick cheney pic first, though.

KeymasterThanks for playing through so far guys.
I just played through for the first time in a long while. Only a few sections through, but I think what I have so far is pretty good.
Some notes of things I need to fix:
Need to make some of the Ax treasures be either a Club or something else more rewarding (maybe a Padding). By the time you get to the Qing Zhou Castle Ax it is obsolete and everyone has an Ax (if not a few Club users).
Entering Yang Zhou Castle (now NanCounty), the group is facing north instead of from the west (since it’s a sideways entry to the town/castle). So they’re basically through the wall. Any idea how I straighten that out, SP?
Just fought the gate after Luo Yang Castle and it was without a general – just three Rebel Forces. Sun Jian was supposed to be there. Not sure what happened but I know that’s happened to me before. Possibly from people dying or some related bug.
Need to fix the Niu Fu (Luo Yang / Wang Gui spot) and Li Ru (Xiongnu / Liu Feng spot) recruit lines as they go too far.
Couple text errors I need to fix – Yuan Shu outside refers to Xuantu Fort, though that is later on. Should be either Chen Cang or Xiongnu Castle. Yuan Shao at Luo Yang mentions Imperial Seals (should just be Imperial Seal I think).
2. If you walk into the Luo Yang field and walk out you end up under the castle (past the fight).
Thanks MiDKnighT. Yea, I wasn’t sure how to fix that, given that when you initially do Luo Yang you come from the south instead of the north (hence the game sending you south of the castle). I should change that, but I guess in a way it’s fine to “continue” on even though at some point you’ll need to defeat the battle anyway.
He still has Yan Re. Is he supposed to ? Or do I start afresh with page1 download ?
I guess I should match up the roms from the first page with the download page. Thought they were, but yes, Cao Cao no longer has Yan Re there. Though Fu Bing becomes the bigger issue anyway.
Oh, I will note that I did have to buy food twice up until Cao Cao.
Thanks unfy. Yea I would like to make food obsolete and just make it easy to purchase a ton of it and not worry about it. With the soldier counts growing fast that would make things easiest. There is a lot of trekking around early on.
I still think we’re waiting on the updated completion of the Yuan Shu Mod!
That’s going to need wholesale changes. Some things are okay, like the sprites and portraits are set up, but the issue becomes creating a more realistic story-line and then other new enhancements.
Thanks again to everyone who took the time to check this out so far and gave your thoughts. I’m going to try to pick it back up here soon.

ModeratorA few things that I recall is that Yang Zhou, even though a castle, uses coding for the castle similar to Ru Nan which responds similar to a cave. I had issues in each of my mods when trying to move Yang Zhou via the map editor because it always did odd stuff which also ironically happens when you try to move Ling Ling as well.
Sometimes I have had disappearing officers as well, I generally just use a different hexed character and put brk1 and make them an unused sprite/officer unfortunately.
There is a way to make food sellable. I’ve done this in Flames of Wu as well. You have to update two tables, 1 being the visible text that displays the food/cost the other is the actual amount the game gives you/charges you despite what text is displayed. You can up the amounts to 65000 if you want (or 65535 or whatever the max hex character is of FFFF)
Btw, have you tried out the new Rise of Lu Bu 3.0? I’ve made monumental changes to the game and make you actually play as Lu Bu throughout the whole game with an entirely new experience compared to the first one. Maybe that would help in some gameplay changes in Tyrant Dong Zhuo?

KeymasterThanks for the tips Penguin.
From what I remember with Yang Zhou, I had tried to change the value that determines which way you face. I think I initially dealt with that after moving the Yuan Shu cave, and managed to change them to face the right way. I think I tried to replicate that with the Yang Zhou switch in Dong Zhuo mod but it didn’t provide the result I needed :) Either way, it works, not a big deal to have them face the right way.
As for the disappearing officers at that gate battle, I know that is the first time I’ve seen that happen at that particular battle. So I guess I’ll just roll with it and assume it won’t happen often to people.
Sounds like a good plan with the food. Basically, change the shop keeper value and then how much he actually gives you upon purchasing. I just want it to not be an issue. That said, I didn’t have too much trouble with it so far in this rom, just had to buy it a few times.
Yep, I was planning on going through one of your roms. Was actually going to try the Wu, but good point on the Lu Bu one since that’s related to Dong Zhuo. Ideally I’ll be able to get through a few of them. A lot of the functions will be new to me. I haven’t gone through these new ones, not sure how duels work even.

Well, in the Flames of Wu mod, you could always give dueling a shot vs. Lu Bu… Bwahahaha!
At any rate, I really like the dueling function as it adds a LOT more randomness to battles from status changes to wins vs. much larger forces to major strategy changes when your foolish officers change out and get *licked* by an officer and it also gives your less intelligent guys a reason to remain in the party rather than just switching over to pure intelligence guys @ end game.

KeymasterFigured out a fix for the food issues.
The first cave which is accessible right away (the Guan Ping / Gold Key cave) has a treasure in the north end that is 1053 gold coins. I just switched it to 10315 food or so. That should alleviate the food issues though it takes away 1000 gold coins which was useful then too.

ModeratorActually, I used that some technique in the Flames of Wu mod especially where Yuan Shu jips your party on food. Food in the cave is a fix if you REALLY want it.

KeymasterYea. Treasures are rare so it sucks to use one up on that.
Having played some of your Lu Bu mod I see I’ve done a lot of what you have with the hidden treasures and regular treasures – made them defensive equipment like Padded, Cap, Hood, etc.
Changed some of the music around. This is pretty cool…
Trying to change the boss battle music for one of the battles (formerly the Yuan Shao ambush battle). Can’t figure out how to find what “Battle ID” each one is at. I know the example in the hacking guide has Sima Yi at 47 and Sun Quan at 36 and that’s it.

ModeratorAh, the music runs just like the hex as far as battle ID’s. WHile it seems that Suan Quan battle is actually 11 battles behind when using DOAEditor, you have to keep in my that hex is base 16. In other words, Sun Quan’s battle is 17 battle’s behind the Sima Yi battle. So when changing the Yuan Shao ambush battle, which I believe is near the end of the list, you need to go to the next hex value which would be ’48’ to put in the “special music” array found at 3E1F7 or 7E1F7 in the expanded version. Currently it is “36, 47, FF, FF, FF, FF, FF, FF” so just replace one of the FF’s with 48 and it should work.

KeymasterThanks for the in-depth pointer. I did actually find the way to do it by checking out the Hacking Guide closer and seeing that the Battle ID’s were listed.
Should be fun to use that theme a little more though not the full amount so as to not make it too common.
Rolling on along now with the Assassination of Dong Zhuo.
Then it’ll be trying to fit Dong Zhuo into the story-line of what happened later if he would have survived.

ModeratorA few issues w/ the mod:
*In the opening sequence they guy mentions Yellow Scarves, then Yellow Turbans about 2 sentences later.
*The colors are really funky for towns. Makes me feel really… groovy :hook: but they’re also kind of hard on the eyes.
*The people are… red! Maybe consider doing some touch ups on the colors in paint?
*gold…coins = at the end of every battle is annoying!
*Not sure which way to go first, there seem to be many routes to go, but it definitely takes a lot of grinding up front not to get clobbered by people. I walked east to a gate, got killed. Then walked south to a castle, got killed. Walked into a cave and the level of the guys kept me retreating all the way through it just to get out alive with 3 officers left.
*Now my armies are starving…
*Can’t seem to scratch the Hu/Qiang tribe before my party gets destroyed, I even have Li Su w/ 400 guys, but now I have 10 gold, 246 food which won’t last me back to the gate, and 2 officers I don’t have the money to resurrect. This mod is brutal..
*Getting gold/exp is really hard vs. these guys, I keep losing my officers
*Can’t afford resurrects at the rate my guys are dying…
*Powdr should be Powder
*Finally got all my guys revived, down to 79 gold, 0 food…. will have to try fighting inbetween starvation.
*Tried a final try to beat the Qiang with 300 food to get me there. I got them down to 1 officer and my army was wiped out. Now I have a whole army dead, no money, no food, and I can’t beat the first gate. I’m gonna break from this mod as there are some major issues that need to be addressed. My *FIX* suggestion: Up the amount of food, gold, and experienced gained in this area if you’re going to leave the first battles so hard. All of the officers here just spank you and it’s impossible to keep up with that amount of depletion. Until this mod gets some work, I probably won’t be playing it again anytime soon.

KeymasterAhh man you should’ve gave me some heads up you were playing, I added a whole new chapter. Although that’s my fault for not adding the new version now anyway. I updated the rom in the download page so download the new Dong Zhuo mod here.
Also added some things early on, like the Li Su cave treasure gives you 10000+ food.
The beginning really shouldn’t give you that much trouble. Craig just played through and he considered it fine and it was his first mod he’s played. Yes it’s pretty tough but if you fight up a level or two by the castle south of where you start, get some new equipment, then go get Li Su in the cave, you should be fine (it’s not Li Su in the updated version by the way, it’s someone better). The 10000 food in the cave will take care of you through the balance of the rom.
*Not sure which way to go first, there seem to be many routes to go
There is really only two, with the northeast one being the way to go but a lot of people are missing it.
Either way, thanks for giving it a quick try. I suggest trying this newly updated version when you have a moment. Made a lot of changes to the earlier parts as well as added another chapter or so after where it initially ended.

Yea I was on a hot streak for a week or two, then fell out of the loop after getting sick and falling behind work stuffs. Hoping to keep the ball rolling. Even though it’s eligible for the 2014 Huo Hu Olympics :huohu: I’m shooting more for January 2015 to have something significant. I don’t believe I have the newest DoaEd. Maybe I should give it a look.
December 2013 updates
-Music changes
-Color changes
-Item drop changes
-Added an extra section / hour or so after the previous ending (which was about Chapter 2).
-Fine tuning the story and recruitsI’m having a lot of fun doing this, hopefully I can get back at it soon enough. Already got some ideas through Chapter 4. Any feedback or play-throughs are appreciated. I’m aiming for completion by the end of the year. Got 11.5 months to go.
