ModeratorYou’ll need to update the DZ mod link to the ‘ROM’s’ page. I tried to make it more aesthetically appealing by making the modern mods more accessible rather than jumbled in the midst of a bunch of incomplete mods/random mods, cleaned up the wording on the page, added some screenshots, and linked to our box.com accounts (me and MidKnight) because this way they stay updated and don’t become dated with 1.0 versions on that page while we’re on 3.0 with tons of fixes, updates, and more. If you want to download local copies for yourself so in 20 years when the world goes to heck and we both die and box.com shuts down our accounts for inactivity, you still have a local copy.
I just think it terrible for someone who finally got interested in modding to be turned off by some hokey-pinocchi-artichokie broken/incomplete mod with authors who never updated their mod and thus casuing people to never even bother to try some of the more interesting incarnations of DOAE that people have worked seriously on, and thus causing the world of DOAE hacking to come crashing down, and if nothing else, think of how the Jin Xuan Mod would never be completed!?
At any rate, I DID consider before undertaking the Rise of Ieyasu Mod doing a Dong Zhuo Mod simply for the comic potential(doing battles just to chase after women, blaspheming his own officers, lots of “BWAHAHAHA!”) but figured since I already did Rise of Lu Bu that I wanted to do something entirely different in terms of forces, area, and story and I think it turned out decent…

That’s fine. Page looks good now, nice work.

What do I need to do now? I upload the roms to the /DLs/ROMs folder so the link is fine how it is on the roms page. Give it a try, maybe you can do it without running out of food and being stuck :huohu:

I changed this for the Yuan Shao Mod/ My three mods as these mods tend to get updated semi-regularly which is more than I can say for the way that this page was before I edited it. It was still on Rise of Lu Bu 1.0, had Rise of Ieyasu 1.0, and no Flames of Wu for example. As it is, I last updated Flames of Wu like 3 days ago so having a copy that is on a local disk would already be outdated. I would keep a backup or so definitely, but keep the main link to the box files to keep them the most current.

ParticipantI give this a try! The poor Prime Minister is sooooo misunderstood… What’s wrong with wanting booze, babes, and tons and tons of torture? LOL!
January 22, 2014 at 4:52 pm #53204DragonAtma
ModeratorMaybe you should make a play about him and call it Springtime For Dong Zhuo…?

KeymasterThanks Shingen. It is not complete but I think you will greatly enjoy the first several chapters of gameplay I created for Tyrant Dong Zhuo. I tried to follow his history as best as possible. The booze and babes do not come in for a while since it seems like he was a bit more modest early on in his adult life, if not still ruthless…

ParticipantHere are the notes of my playthrough!
Cool link to Lu Zhi and Huangfu Song. Mighty Dong gets to replace those losers 3:) I was surprised at the lack of recruitment, but it forced me to find Bao Hong. Old school in making me talk to everyone in town :)
I love how the generals are inferior. Dong Min is a tool… Cai Yong despite being mediocre is awesome in this mod so far (later on he was replaced due to lack of troops).
Visited Cave. Food and Hua Xiong are a boon. Guo Dian cut. Dong Zhuo, Hua Xiong, Cai Yong core very strong. Power leveled to 6 for some equipment.
Heading North – Bian Zhang is a BITCH!
Han Sui Battle: “Where is that coward Huangfu Song and Zhang Wen?” Should it be Lu Zhi rather than Zhang Wen? Han Sui Battle Rough! Price for rest outrageous at 800. Went back to castle. Leveled up and decked out in equipment. Zhang brothers not too tough. The rocky map is awesome!
Xu Rong is solid. Replaced Qiang. LOL! I rested before talking to him (I’m used to the Ma Yuan Yi encounter there). Dong Min replaced by Hu Zhen.
Li Ru is good. Replaced Hu Zhen for now. Party of Dong Zhuo, Hua Xiong, Li Ru, Xu Rong, Cai Yong. Messed up and attacked wrong castle. Lu Bu ate me for breakfast.
Capitol Battle: Umm… yan re… I had to cheat on this…By retreating I’m let out on the wrong side of the castle. Might be a cooler feel if this was just Dong Zhuo murdering the eunuchs.
Lu Bu replaces Xu Rong
Chi Tu Ma fun to find… Liu Yu major recruit… Need his troops. Replaces Cai Yong… comparable but 3x troops
Nice surprise after Chang An… The only problem with the last section is that the boss battle is impossible to do without cheating. Something to consider might be a larger troop count.
Awesome mod so far! Very very difficult though…

ParticipantWhat would really be cool is you could somehow have the assassins show up as NPC’s in some of the towns (Like Chang An). For example one of the townsman could say, “Wang Yun: Oh… Don’t worry Prime Minister… Diao Chan will be all yours…”

KeymasterAwesome, thanks for the review Shingen. Glad you liked it so far.
I love how the generals are inferior. Dong Min is a tool… Cai Yong despite being mediocre is awesome in this mod so far (later on he was replaced due to lack of troops).
Yep, the early officers are pretty terrible outside of Cai Yong. Cai Yong is versatile and when I replay it i find myself using him for a long while despite his low soldier count.
Han Sui Battle: “Where is that coward Huangfu Song and Zhang Wen?” Should it be Lu Zhi rather than Zhang Wen? Han Sui Battle Rough!
Zhang Wen was pretty prominent back then in the early Dong Zhuo years, but I think by the time Dong Zhuo made his move there he wasn’t active. So I never really found a way to put him into the mod, so he is just referenced there and it seems like a random shout-out to him.
The Han Sui battle is rough, but did you recruit Qiang Tribe first? That is a big help as it takes him out of that battle.
Price for rest outrageous at 800.
Yep, that’s the problem with putting an Inn at different places. If you do it within a tent, it ends up being like 10 Gold. If you do it from a random villager walking around the fort it’s expensive like that. So yea I don’t blame you for not resting there.
Li Ru is good. Replaced Hu Zhen for now. Party of Dong Zhuo, Hua Xiong, Li Ru, Xu Rong, Cai Yong. Messed up and attacked wrong castle. Lu Bu ate me for breakfast.
You put Li Ru in the party? I always have him as tactician but have rarely used him in battle. You had a smart group at least.
Capitol Battle: Umm… yan re… I had to cheat on this…By retreating I’m let out on the wrong side of the castle. Might be a cooler feel if this was just Dong Zhuo murdering the eunuchs.
Who did I give Yan Re to? Zhang Rang? Yea I tried to make it hard but might be more realistic to tone it down. I think the high AP is the bigger issue as He Miao, Dian Gui, etc shouldn’t be taking off 100.
Being let out on the south side of the castle does suck, I didn’t find a way to fix that though maybe Sonic or MiDKnighT have an idea as to how I can have the character show up on the north end of the castle until it is defeated.

That would be a good idea. If I could like find a way to turn the Chang An “messenger” to Wang Yun and then have that initiate an ambush battle in there. Would probably take some work but would be cooler than just doing it outside the city.
Did you stop after the Wang Yun battle at Nan Yang? That battle is definitely tough. I did a little bit more after that to the north and east I believe, but you’re close to the end.
Thanks again for the feedback :huohu:

Unless it is coded as such, Luo Yang automatically spits you out south of the castle until the battle ID vs. Dong Zhuo and Lu Bu is cleared because there is a warp to a zone prior to fighting them (talk w/ Yuan Shu). If you are approaching Luo Yang from the north, your best bet would be to switch the castle that is present @ Luo Yang. For example, placing Yang Zhou there would prevent you from being placed south of the castle, but you would be at a different castle wonce you entered. The same circumstance goes for Si Shui gate that until the Hua Xiong battle ID is cleared it will spit you out north of the gate because you warp to a zone to talk w/ Sun Ce before the battle. This can actually be useful for preventing progress when you mod the game if you use it right.

KeymasterThank you Meng Da. I tried to make it fun but also accurate to Dong Zhuo’s real history. There are a lot of great mods on here, now that you are a member you can find them on the rom downloads page.
I need to get back to updating this mod. I always seem to get on a roll, finish up an area and then have to catch up with real life. Hopefully soon I’ll get going again.
