Using the Destiny of an Emperor Cao Cao Mod by James as a starting and reference point, the new Hero of Chaos Mod is underway! Updates will be posted in this thread.
Tentative Title: Hero of Chaos
Base Mod: Cao Cao Mod by James**Newest Updates**
Status screens and officers have been revamped to incorporate dual colored borders, tactic/item icons, and fixes to the menu bars and title system! Awesome!January 8, 2014 at 7:55 pm #52829Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterWow dude…this could be epic.
That Sun Quan portrait background might be the coolest I’ve seen

January 9, 2014 at 6:57 pm #52833Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterSo much has changed since then in the DoaE hacking game, obviously. It was what, 2008 when he made it? James does know his RTK history though so it’s probably worth doing a speed run of his just to get some ideas.

I just didn’t know how people would feel as I like to do total conversion mods which would also affect the storyline, order in which kingdoms are fought, etc. One thing I always wondered how he changed is making the officer who delivers the message about Yuan Shu into a recruit event because when I tried that it glitched so it had to have been more than just inserting [EVENT-E91C].
I was actually thinking of starting this mod ‘post’ Yellow Turbans since from what I understand Liu Bei’s armies took care of Cheng Yuanzhi and that crew, not Cao Cao, this way I can insert the battle with Lu Bu’s armies and such. What are you guys’ ideas? I’m still just tossing around ideas and have only been playing around with starting points and game progression a bit.
A much ‘crisper’ version of Zhang Liao has been made as well.

January 10, 2014 at 12:53 pm #52839sonic.penguinModeratorYeah, photoshop, but I could just as easily use paint. What makes the portraits turn out better and not so “blocky” is by lining up the pixels corner to corner rather than side by side/top to bottom. With The FCE blur effects, they come out really good using that method.

Hmm, no idea what this means.
January 10, 2014 at 3:33 pm #52841sonic.penguinModeratorThis would be a zoom in of the picture on the pixel level, aka each dot on the picture.
It allows you to produce more aesthetically appealing portraits in my opinion

January 10, 2014 at 11:28 pm #52843ZyloWolfBaneParticipantOh my, the genius of rom hacking is at it again!? Be still my thumbs, I will devour this game when you finish it someday :D
January 10, 2014 at 11:34 pm #52844sonic.penguinModeratorHeh, “if” is the key here as I’m still a little hung up on how its going to be made. If i just carbon copied the “Cao Cao Mod” and just inserted new graphics and applied IPS patch 1.2 and called it a day that would be one option. The other would be trying to make a new game with new maps, battles, focal points of the game, and such. You know
(Deleted Zhao Yun pic – his eyes were all wrong >_o)
In the meantime, how about giving your input for the 2014 Huo Hu Awards?

January 14, 2014 at 10:00 am #52887Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterYou make the portraits sound so simple. Do you make them from scratch? Or alter existing ones? You should make a video tutorial of how you do one and upload it to youtube. I bet people could learn a lot from it.
I wouldn’t just carbon copy the Wei mod from James. Like you saw with the patch, he did some edits that probably prevent even using that. Plus he did no map edits, obviously that can’t stand.
As far as some of the history and dialogue though, his was probably spot on. Again, he knows quite a bit about RTK history.
One thing he did gameplay-wise that I remember being nice was having a good balance of growth-soldier officers and high-soldier, temporary officers. Then again I also remember him having Xiahou Yuan in the game from the beginning but barely using him because his soldier count was low and there are so many quality Wei officers to choose from and have to whittle down to just 5 in battle. But that goes with the mod I guess.
