An offer for you sonic:
Maybe I should make your portrait tutorial part of the deal too :pirat:
January 14, 2014 at 7:26 pm #52900sonic.penguinModeratorOne thing he did gameplay-wise that I remember being nice was having a good balance of growth-soldier officers and high-soldier, temporary officers. Then again I also remember him having Xiahou Yuan in the game from the beginning but barely using him because his soldier count was low and there are so many quality Wei officers to choose from and have to whittle down to just 5 in battle. But that goes with the mod I guess.
This was an issue I worked EXTREMELY hard to remedying in the Flames of Wu mod because having Zhou Yu, Lu Meng, Lu Su, Lu Xun all in the party at the same time made other officers obsolete. Essentially, it boiled down to this to fix it:
*High INT officers got super low/static soldier counts which made you swap them out simply for soldiers. Reminiscent of Li Ru who many kept throughout the original game for his High INT and An Sha capabilities. No one ever even used the Ma bros or Yuan Shu/Yuan Shao officers.
*High STR officers got above average HP but I made sure their INT was super low, and if I gave them more INT, I gave them a soldier cut.An offer for you sonic…
Hmmm… That is a tempting offer… if you can get 1.3 to work and the DOAEditor edits to be workable in terms of crashes, page 2 of those tactics, etc, I remember it was quite a lot to fix, but hey, if you’re up for it, lets collaborate on it, I would just need a simple, mostly patched working Cao Cao mod to launch off of. In other words
1. it has to be workable enough where it won’t lock up
2. I have be able to use DOAEditor with it because such massive changes require it
3. Probably some more updates to the RH guide with specifics about certain issues and how to edit specific parts of code for example, if I want a duel on the mismatch list to auto-kill someone instead of just a loss or debuff.January 14, 2014 at 8:50 pm #52906MiDKnighTModeratorOK tomorrow I’m gonna patch up the Cao Cao mod to 1.3 – launch DoaEditor, and start debugging.

I recall reading reviews about Flames of Wu and people saying guys like Lu Meng, etc were only useful for a short period of time. It’s tough though for a Wu or Wei mod. Their rosters are just so damn deep. We have 5 guys active in battle at any given time with 1 tactician. That’s not a lot of room to work with, so it’s tough to manage.

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingJanuary 14, 2014 at 9:40 pm #52915sonic.penguinModeratorActually, thanks to MiDKnighT, we can now perma-remove officers with just a little code. This was my original intent with Lu Meng as in terms of the rom, he is just a snippet as I feel he was in ROTK as well. He shined, but only for a short time until his time was over after the death of Guan Yu which is about when Lu Meng becomes a lot less feasible to use. If I went in there I could probably code a battle to *KILL* him off, but I wonder if it would still work even if he wasn’t in the party, and say, in billeting and/or not recruited as people might try to leave him alive until after that event. If that were the case, I could give him dynamic soldier growth and ‘ax’ him. His stats though would prevent players from using other characters, however, throughout the game which is a flaw I see in many ROMS I play, you keep mostly the same party of people throughout the game which is almost always just the smart guys.
OK tomorrow I’m gonna patch up the Cao Cao mod to 1.3 – launch DoaEditor, and start debugging.
Okay, well if you’re going to do that, I’m going to have to familiarize myself with more of those 1.3 options so this way I can test it at the same time I’m rebuilding it to pick out those bugs as we go…
Issue #1 – officer profiles f#*! up the game if you use any other than ‘OFFICER’ and try either changing the name (which results in 0000000) or adding new weapon types.
Issue #2 – I get crash errors when clicking through generals on the officer editing page – System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: InvalidArgument=Value of ’50’ is not valid for ‘SelectedIndex’.
Parameter name: SelectedIndex
at System.Windows.Forms.ComboBox.set_SelectedIndex(Int32 value)
at DoaEditor.MainForm.list_SelectedIndexChanged(Object sender, EventArgs e)
at System.Windows.Forms.ListBox.OnSelectedIndexChanged(EventArgs e)
at System.Windows.Forms.ListBox.WmReflectCommand(Message& m)
at System.Windows.Forms.ListBox.WndProc(Message& m)
at System.Windows.Forms.Control.ControlNativeWindow.OnMessage(Message& m)
at System.Windows.Forms.Control.ControlNativeWindow.WndProc(Message& m)
at System.Windows.Forms.NativeWindow.Callback(IntPtr hWnd, Int32 msg, IntPtr wparam, IntPtr lparam)
This however, might only be because I’m scrolling through it in a mod w/out the 1.3 patch so might need more testing for this one.
Issue #3 – Certain tactics don’t work like Life/Raise and I believe they don’t even show up in the game even if you program them to. Same thing with the new/re-introduced tactics + multi-hit versions if I recall this bug.
Issue #4 – Tactics on page 2 of ‘Profiles’ doesn’t save which is levels 31-50 I believe. This is all I can think of at the moment that are major breakers which don’t allow me to do much at the current state of things. I really would like to be able to fiddle with the stats of officers but I believe there was an issue that related to editing stats of Guan Yu, Liu Bei, and Zhang Fei that caused a DOAEditor crash.
I currently have been plagued by pneumonia and have been at home thus my more recent ability to knock out issues w/ the romhacking guide, website, and roms. I’ll be around tomorrow to hash out some of this stuff a bit probably.

Yes, I coded the “kill” feature to find them and kill them wherever they are in the game. In your party, billeting, etc…

Awesome, I’m gonna have to use this…
January 15, 2014 at 11:30 am #52926MiDKnighTModeratorProgress: Patched James’ Cao Cao mod to IPS 1.3 and fixed a text pointer problem that prevented it from working with DoaEditor. Also fixed a DoaEditor bug with selecting a profile on the officer page (not published yet as I’m looking for more DoaEditor bugs).
January 15, 2014 at 11:35 am #52927sonic.penguinModeratorCool, glad those bugs have been found.
January 15, 2014 at 1:25 pm #52933MiDKnighTModeratorJanuary 15, 2014 at 2:36 pm #52935sonic.penguinModeratorGot it. Been waiting all day here. Made some music while waiting…
January 15, 2014 at 2:44 pm #52936MiDKnighTModeratorI’m thinking your tactic learning issue might have something to do with the skills required to learn the tactic? I know I tested it a bunch when I was making that feature. For example the person you want to learn the tactic might have high INT but the tactic is AGI based and their AGI isn’t high enough. Or something like that.
Anyways let me know if you have any issues with DoaEditor with this Cao Cao IPS 1.3 mod. I got all the buggies I could find but there could be others lurking.
January 15, 2014 at 2:49 pm #52939sonic.penguinModeratorI removed all the restrictions on tactics and it wasn’t working, to my memory that was what was going on. Will play with it now and see what I can do. I see profiles are functional :P
January 15, 2014 at 2:53 pm #52940sonic.penguinModeratorFound a bug. Changed a tactic on page 2 to Lian Huo and when exported it reverted it back to (None)

I do this without thinking about it but I should mention, I think you need to tab to another box for the tactic to save. That’s where the saving routine kicks in. Ie…set the tactic on page 2 to Lian Huo then move to another box then export.
