I don't think Tyrant Dong Zhuo is done yet but we'd have to check with LYS on that one.
I uploaded a new version with some of the changes:
https://www.box.com/s/c28f0a02f152dc1cb29c
Changes:
– Fixed Xu Rong end battle speech.
– Upped "arrows" TP cost to 5
– "Defend" text no longer requires button pushing.
Regarding these:
Quote:Nevermind, Lu Bu dueled me and lost, it was an easy win >_>Wow that's rare. You must have had Yan Liang or Wen Chou leading your party.
Quote:*Lu Kuang is pretty useless when you get him, despite his high agility, he is inferior to all other officers you have by a mile….You get so many generals around this time that it's hard to make them all useful. I remember the general in this spot in the original DOAE was useless. However with higher agility Lu Kuang should be a good "arrows" guy.
Quote:When fighting Sun Jian he seems susceptible to Doubt when Dueling him, maybe place on the no duel list? His battles were fairly easy when he doesn't do anythingWho did you use to challenge the duel? I'm thinking you got pretty lucky with him getting doubted so much. Sun Jian dueled in history so I don't really want to put him on the no duel list. Maybe I can tweak the duel code to make him accept a bit more.
Quote:After killing the lead general in a castle battle received exp but 0 coins and foodNot sure what I can do about this one but this should be extremely rare (killing the lead enemy officer).
Quote:Bowmen have a tendency to attack themselves once, then the next bowmen will attack and hit yuan shao's entire army (regular attack, not arrows)I have seen this before but it's very hard to trace because it's so rare and random. I think it has something to do with my A.I. code stopping to avoid stack overflow and not setting the target correctly when going back to attack. I can try to trap this some more.
Quote:In duels when a general is badly injured can their troop count drop? or must be immediately an sha'd?There are several possible outcomes with duel. Troop loss isn't one of them right now.
Quote:When battling generals in open field (sometimes castle) they will use Life or Raise on empty slot in their army to bring a 0 soldier general which sprite starts atop the screenI haven't seen this one. Did it happen often? Anything unique that makes this happen?
Quote:Yuan Shang too powerful when compared to his brothers I believe the three sons should definitely have high troop count but only average statsHe's a bit beefed up and the reason for that is for him to be an important part of your party once you get him to give the mod more of a "Yuan Shao (and sons)" feel.
Quote:Thanks for the wonderful mod!Your welcome, thanks for playing. Did you beat it? Since you were talking about Bowmen I assume you probably beat it since they are in chapter 7b. If you did beat it what did you think of the last fights? (end of chapter 7a, 7b, and Cao Cao).
August 26, 2012 at 11:53 pm #38001unfyModeratorQuote:Granted, I did this in Rise of Lu Bu by giving Lu Bu 150 Intelligence when it should've been like 80, but originally it was like 200+ heh heh.Ah the old days :P.
I do miss my >200 int lu bu hehehe… it seemed almost necessary in some parts of the original mod :P
Welcome Jeph! Swell group of people visit here, and there is always lots of DoaE action going on… you'll fit right in probably :)

Quote:I haven't seen this one. Did it happen often? Anything unique that makes this happen? It only happened to me twice: One was a field battle with Song Ren and Huo Hu and they summoned Song Yong in the fourth or fifth slot (others taken by rebel force) and the second time may have been a field battle as well, it was in the Wu area.
Quote:Your welcome, thanks for playing. Did you beat it? Since you were talking about Bowmen I assume you probably beat it since they are in chapter 7b. If you did beat it what did you think of the last fights? (end of chapter 7a, 7b, and Cao Cao).Yes, just finished – was at the spot when Cao Cao cast the thunder/remove on me. After that battle and past the cave (where you get the halberd/Dragon Spear) I was already level 50. :)
The last fights were fairly straightforward, I found the longest battles were with a strategist type and the 2-3 Monks which appear at the castles/camps. I would destroy one or two just to have them use raise, my Thwart spell always seemed to be timed wrong :P Their negates were powerful too, although a shame they would all cast it when they all seem to have 100% success rate. The text in Part A of the final battle was surprising and fun. At that point, however, seemed I could just rally/powerpill/guard to victory targeting the Raise officers first and having Xu Chu attacking his own men. TP management was never an issue with Tian Feng and Liu Bei there to gain me 7-12 a turn if I needed. Maybe increasing the cost of the end game tactics would help, not sure.
I will be trying the new version after a few other mods get played through! :)
EDIT: Forgot to mention typo when speaking with Yuan Shao at Luoyang he mentions "Emporor" instead of "Emperor".
August 27, 2012 at 2:28 am #38003MiDKnighTModeratorNice. I'm glad you mentioned the monks. I kinda liked that evil creation.
If you're trying new mods I think the ones that have won "Huo Hu" awards are must plays –> http://www.lordyuanshu.com/forums/topic/doae-rom-threads
Although some of them are older and don't have a lot of the newer enhancements.
The most "complete" mod I have seen so far is "Rise of Ieyasu" which has an insane amount of map, portrait, story, etc… edits. I guess I will never be finished with the Yuan Shao mod until it is as complete of a mod as that which could take a long long time
August 27, 2012 at 2:41 am #38004sonic.penguinModeratorWait on Rise of Ieyasu, I'm revamping the whole thing atm
August 27, 2012 at 2:42 am #38005sonic.penguinModeratorTry Rise of Lu Bu 2.0 instead, Rise of Ieyasu should be revamped in the next few weeks with lots of major updates, balance, and grammatical fixes (capitol not capital!)
August 29, 2012 at 1:07 pm #38006MiDKnighTModeratorSo romhacking.net says that there were 65 downloads but we've only heard from 1 new person playing this mod (Jephraim). Weird… Maybe I should have done what James did and make a nearly impossible fight + hidden items that nobody could find so that they are on the message boards begging for help. 8)
August 29, 2012 at 3:27 pm #38007AnonymousInactiveActually I discovered this site through kongming.net – I've been lurking the scholars of shenzhou forum for Romance of the 3 Kingdoms for years then remembered reading about DoaE mods featuring alternate casts for play through. I sincerely hope that you guys do get the opportunity to share these wonderful mods with many, many others! :)
August 29, 2012 at 3:57 pm #38008MiDKnighTModeratorOh Jephraim I forgot to ask. Without giving out solution details, how long did it take you to figure out Xu Shu's maze? I'm considering changing it to a hidden entrance
August 29, 2012 at 6:07 pm #38009AnonymousInactiveTook a few minutes to find the right path, just had to be on the lookout on where some ended so as not to waste much time. Great idea to put that in, didn't find myself getting frustrated at all. :) Hidden entrance would be pretty evil – not Monks-evil, but still evil. ;)
Although if you did and re-uploaded to romhacking then you would definitely be getting people asking for assistance in the forum!
EDIT: Cock-a-doodle-doo! I'm a Bandit!
September 2, 2012 at 12:05 am #38010sonic.penguinModeratorHELP!
Will send you the broken rom that freezes in battles.
September 3, 2012 at 2:43 pm #38011sonic.penguinModeratorWasn't satisfied w/ the one I made based off ROTK 12, so I rolled back to the ROTK 11 one and it turned out better. Let me know if you find out why that 'All-Out' bug is occurring.
Fear the buck-tooth!
September 13, 2012 at 11:11 pm #38013sonic.penguinModeratorOkay, same issues I had before. Yuan Shang's stats have got to be totally toned down. Zhang He should come with a little less INT and Zhang Yan with a little less STR. Maybe 240 tops? Chunyu Qiong, maybe less INT as well. I mean, some of these guys make Guan Yu look like a bean bag…
September 14, 2012 at 10:18 pm #38014MiDKnighTModeratorDid you finish it? The Yuan Shang thing was to give incentive to use him so it still stays the "Yuan Shao" story. Historically Zhang Yan might have been able to beat or draw Guan Yu since Zhang Yan fought to a duel with Lu Bu. I think Zhang Yan's strength is about right for the character. Does he make the game too easy once you get him?
September 15, 2012 at 1:10 am #38015sonic.penguinModeratorYeah it kind of does. He can be semi-useful as a tank w/ high soldier gains but be replaceable later on. I did this in ROLB by making Huang Zhong and Ma Chao have fixed soldier amounts.
Did you change the palette colors for houses? Just wondering.
The guy who is talking about Yuan Shu and the servant line, sort of ends mid sentence… the rightful owner of all Yuan assets… I reset it and read it twice but it still made no sense.
We've got to fix your brigand force portraits… they look like swedish cavemen. Any requests on a portrait?
Also, their agility is so low you wipe the whole force out w/out them even getting a hit in… too easy? Also weapon/armor prices are so low, I've changed these myself so you can't just auto-suit up entire armies at every castle, but weapons/armor make a bigger difference and thus you actually need to SAVE gold. FYI, still gotta find a way around to increase cost of recruitment.
Erase the merchant line that says "Deal?" to eliminate the extra keystrokes. In fact, altogether some tidying up of some of the menus would go a long way to streamlining the mod. All of the extra keystrokes for 1 or 2 words all game long gets annoying… especially 'coins' at the end of every battle requiring an extra key stroke which you fixed.
A few I know of that need shortening to 3 lines w/out breaks to eliminate strokes:
*merchant text is riddled with these, like "anything else you would like to sell?", the "Deal" thing, "Come in, I am a merchant, are you buying or selling?" <— yeah we know thats why were here!
*Weapon guy intro needs shortened text
*Sneak attack battle line " I dont think ****** force is aware of our armies approach."
The "ZhouYu Renming" is kind o' choppy. Maybe shorten it up to Zhou Ren? I know that anything past 6 characters on that 2nd line chops it…
Also, on another note, I'm conquering quite a few castles w/ the same basic starting equipments.
I continue to just *mow* through people with Arrows.
*Gotta get some editing done to the palettes of your portraits to make the armor more colorful :)
**You know what would be a REALLY cool feature? Whenever you enter a battle, instead of selecting the first 5 people, it randomly selects from the 7 people in your party. This way, PACK MULES with 300 soldiers running around at the end of the game would be discouraged since they might have to fight and this way they would actually have to carry equipment too. Or stay with a 5 person party to eliminate random picking at the loss of your pack mules.
More to come…
