ParticipantI tried hex editing the game. While I was able to find all of the text strings, the game does not even have an English font. When I tried to translate peoples’ names, I got blank spaces instead.
Sun Gongli
ParticipantThe problem with trying to translate this game is that it uses a HUGE Japanese font and even puts the text in Up-down, right-left order like traditional Japanese and Chinese writing. Even if one were to translate this game, it’d look like absolute rubbish.

ParticipantNow I’m getting a "You’re not authorized to view this resource" page for Zhou Yu.

ParticipantThe Yuan Shu campaign thing is intentiaonal so that people don’t go farther than I’ve coded.
Cao Cao’s sprite isn’t done yet, because he gets a new one.
Interesting error with Zang Ba. Thanks.

ParticipantAny progress on fixing it? I really want to hear what you have to say about Zhou Yu.

ParticipantOh, one thing. Make sure your system locale for non-unicode programs is set to Chinese (PRC). Do this through Region Settings in the Control Panel. That’ll fix that text issue, I think.

ParticipantA new version is up!
Besides various fixes and tweaks (as well as a nerf to Lu Fan, who was way overpowered in terms of melee fighting), the following battles have been added:
Kuaiji (Sun Ce vs. Wang Lang)
Invasion of Shouchun (A fictional – and optional – Sun Ce vs. Yuan Shu stage)
Yuan Shu Campaign (Cao Cao, Liu Bei, Sun Ce, Lu Bu vs. Yuan Shu)
Once you beat the Yuan Shu campaign, there’s nothing more left in the patch, so you’ll know that you can quit the game when you see Lu Bu retreating from Cao Cao.
Again, please run the ekd5.exe, not the .exe file that Lady Wu supplies, as my executable contains new header information that prevents Sun Ce from, say, having Cao Cao’s portrait and sprite.
A quick summary for the battles that have been added:
KUAIJI
Your party will be split into two for this battle. The first group will be led by Sun Ce and Taishi Ci and will attack from the river. The second party will be led by Sun Quan and will appear at a predetermined time (selected by Sun Ce at the start of the battle). Sun Quan’s party will launch a surprise attack on Zhadu, a strategic position to the south of Wang Lang’s castle.
Dong Xi will show up with a group of reinforcements when Sun Quan appears, and Yu Fan, who is in Wang Lang’s army, will desert. Xu Gong and the others in Zhadu will become confused due to the sudden pincer attack. If you elected to have Sun Quan attack sooner than later, then Yan Baihu will be sent down from Kuaiji to try to save Zhadu. Otherwise, Sun Quan will only appear once Zhou Xin is defeated by Sun Ce.
Your goal is to eliminate every enemy unit, so make sure you don’t leave any units left standing in the frontlines with Zhou Xin, because they’ll guard their tents to their last breath.
SHOUCHUN
This battle is extremely arduous. Good thing it’s optional. The entire city is blanketed in a scenic layer of snow… snow which makes for great use of water tactics, so definitely bring Zhou Yu, Jiang Qin, and Zhou Tai. Chen Wu also can move swiftly through the snow, so bring him as well. Yuan Shu gets some unexpected help in the form of his then ally, Lu Bu. Zhang Zhao and Zhou Yu will offer different strategies to neutralize the threat: Zhang Zhao suggests luring Lu Bu into a trap, while Zhou Yu suggests tricking Lu Bu into retreating. Both work, but you actually have to fight Lu Bu if you lure him over. That said, he’ll be confused because of your ambush, but he still takes quite a beating. Use tactics on him – he’s very vulnerable to them – and try to finish him off in one round if you choose to engage him. It’s worth it. Alternately, you can proceed as normal, which is dangerous but also rewarding.
Eventually, Huang Zu and Huang She show up as reinforcements for Yuan Shu. Apparently, Liu Biao views Sun Ce as a threat now. He appers up north with Liu Xun and Yuan Yin, while Ji Ling and Zhang Xun are to the south. Ji Ling is as deadly as ever, and Zhang Xun is no slouch either. If you brought Lu Meng along, he can duel Yuan Yin and gain an attack bonus.
Once you clear outside of the castle, invade the castle from both gates. Once you get into Yuan Shu’s inner sanctum, it’s a pretty easy battle, though Yuan Shu himself takes a lot of damage before he goes down, so even with 30 days, you might very well run out of time if you lose too many units too early.
YUAN SHU CAMPAIGN
Similar to the original from LoCC, though a bit more packed. Lu Bu has Zhang Liao and Zang Ba with him. Liu Bei still has Guan Yu and Zhang Fei. And Cao Cao has Xiahou Dun, Xiahou Yuan, Xun Yu, Li Dian, and Xu Chu with him as well. Large enemy units block all entrances into the swamped castle. Again, you may want to bring Jiang Qin and Zhou Tai, but Lu Fan and Zhang Hong would also be good choices – Lu Fan is the only member of your party who can use earth-based tactics besides Dong Xi, and Zhang Hong’s poison works regardless of terrain or weather – and it’s raining badly. Zhou Yu is also useful if an enemy wanders into the swamp, but otherwise, he’s just a melee unit that doesn’t contribute much.
Cheng Pu, if you bring him, can duel Ji Ling to death. As for the other enemies, try to let Lu Bu, Liu Bei, and Cao Cao do lots of work. You may lose some allies – Zhang Liao and Zang Ba typically bite the dust – but you should have no problem defeating Yuan Shu if you can survive the first few turns. Yuan Shu retreats, his empire falling.
What happens next to Yuan Shu? And even though he’s defeated, how big a role is he going to play in what happens next? You’ll find out. Soon.

How do I play a computer rom?
It’s not a rom. Legend of Cao Cao is a computer game, and Legend of Sun Ce is a modification for that computer game. Download the original computer game from here and extract it into a directory. Then, right click this file and extract it into the same directory, overwriting the files already in the directory. Then, when you’ve done that, run the ekd5.exe file that’s in the folder and you’ll start playing the game right away. Computers don’t use roms.

ParticipantZhou Yu’s a 404.
Sun Gongli
ParticipantYeah, Zhou Yu uses Diao Chan’s slot. That means you ran out of mod to play. :P
Sun Gongli
ParticipantHaha, no, that’s not yaoi. Good to see someone besides me can get that far in the game, though.
Sun Gongli
ParticipantIt’s been re-uploaded, if that’s what you mean.
Sun Gongli
ParticipantYou can download LoCC on his computer, too. :P
One thing I’m toying around with is adding more Sun Ce and Yuan Shu interaction. I don’t want to spoiler it, but despite everything that Yuan Shu does, in the end, he’ll be portrayed in a more positive light.

ParticipantLiu You’s bugged. I’ll have to fix that, but no matter where I put him, he wants to hug that desk like his lover.
A new version has been uploaded with many bug fixes and balance fixes, as well as an additional scene at the end (where Taishi Ci and Zu Lang join Sun Ce, as well as Sun Quan joining, and a peek into Wang Lang’s army). If you’ve already downloaded the file before this was posted, you’ll have to redownload it. (It also features some new title graphics and such.)
