Suikoden IV HQ Obel
Deserted Island : Troy : Colton : Graham Clay : Treasure Maps : Obel : Desmond : Kingdom of Obel Lino En Kuldes : Lady Flare : Tov : Chadli : Louise : Rikki : Rakgi
Lazlo is banished from Razril, and has two knights with him along with Chiepoo whom you met earlier. Generally the knights are those who fought with you the most. Anyway, anchor your little boat and go downstairs to save and get 10 Steamed Buns and 10 Medicines. Sail wherever and you’ll fight a few battles and then be picked up by a merchant ship, with ??? and Colton. Go in their deck and search the table for a Treasure Map and Save. Back on top, talk to Troy, and he’ll advice you to rest, so go downstairs and do so.
After resting, go back up and a scene will begin where Troy will find you eavesdropping on him. You’ll explain your situation and then fight you, and you can’t win. Afterwards your party flees and you’ll get into a few more battles but with Kooluk Soldiers that you can defeat. Back on your ship you’ll row away as you have a stairdown with Troy. Fight some more random battles on the World Sea Map and then you’ll fight a boss, the Water Dragon. This thing is tough, hopefully you saved your MP, if so utilize the Rune of Punishment as well as you can. He’s not too tough but use Medicines when you can, and you’ll be rewarded with a Dragon Bone and Dragon’s Scale. Better yet, your boat will end up hitting a deserted island.
Talk to everyone a few times and they’ll join you, in which case you should explore this deserted island. After a while you’ll have to decide what to do, so choose to “escape” and then you’ll be brought up with some more choices. Who is going to cut trees down? Who with make some rope and who will gather coconuts? Really important, right. Well I choose coconuts so just go to the edge of the island and get three. Also take the middle path through the forest for a Necklace at the top of the hill. Chiepoo will sell you generic items if you feel the necessity to do so. Enter the cave and go to the end, where you meet a mermaid who drops a Lucky Ring. Get this ring and search the lake to restore your status, and return to rest. Repeat this procedure the next day, you can choose the same task if you’d like. This time the mermaid drops a Water Amulet. Repeat the process again the next day and she gives you a Guard Ring. Sleep now and the next day you’ll find the mermaid on the lake and she tells you about the “cat” being in trouble with the master. Go up to where you found the Necklace (forest path) and you’ll come to a crab. Defeat his little cronies and attack him, but you won’t be able to hurt him much. Afterwards, Lazlo uses the Rune of Punishment (well, choose to do so) and it’ll remove the crabs guard. Now the battle restarts (with replenished rune spells) and the baby crabs regenerate, so use Keneth’s first level lightning spell to get them down (as there are six of them). Then focus on the large crab of course, he’s not too tough if you keep yourself rested and use your Rune of Punishment. Afterwards, more scenes with Lazlo inside the Rune of Punishment, then he’ll wake up and it’s time to go south.
You’ll fight a few battles and then another boss battle against two Killer Rays, one brown and one green. Focus your attacks on the brown first as it can heal, it should go down in a turn or two if you use your best runes. Jizo Clock and Water Rune Piece were procurred afterwards. The monsters will get your oars so you’ll be stuck resting while a ship comes up. Desmond will greet you and ask your name, so tell him, although it doesn’t matter. He’ll freak out when he sees your rune, but he’ll settle down and tell you you’re with Princess Flare of Obel. When you regain control, go in the deck and search around for another Treasure Map. Talk to everyone and you’ll land eventually. Go straight and search by the barrel to your right for another Treasure Map. Go into the town area and by the Lottery Ticket place is a girl who will give you a free Lottery Ticket. Go east to the second part of town, with an Armor Shop and a Blacksmith that you should spend all your money on. It’ll be a big help but will definitely clean you out as you get your party to level 6. The lady down the stairs behind you gives you Soap. Now you should head to the palace to discuss some things.
You’ll meet Lino en Kuldes. He runs this place and he’s pretty nice. He gives you a place to stay and Desmond comes with you as you visit. Take the east cliff and you’ll get to a ship that will act as your headquarters. Tov, Chadli and Louise will have already joined and work there so to speak. Go to your room and rest and you’ll meet Leknaat who fills you in on your destiny. The next day, go down to Louise and form your usual party, but with her as your support for healing purposes. Now go to the ruins on the other side of the palace. You’ll meet Rakgi who is your guide. These ruins are tough, including an Angel Hairball that is near impossible at this stage. Ideally, you should have your weapons at 6 and you should have new armor, although that’s probably too expensive a venture at this point. Just work on getting those weapons up and you shouldn’t have to worry about your defense then. You can also go recruit a bunch of other characters now that you have headquarters, but let’s do the ruin first. When you’re ready, go to those ruins and get Rakgi to bring you in.
Okay, go through the first room and then go left down the stairs in the next room. Take your next left for a Thunder Amulet. Return and stay on that same floor travel the opposite way from the Thunder Amulet, and you’ll come across a chest with 5000 potch. Go all the way up the stairs now and take the left path, ignoring the first exit you reach on that floor. From here, go right for a Magic Hand, and then return and go straight. Keep going straight into a new room with only a treasure. This is an Angel Hairball that will undoubtedly kill you. It gives up the Golden Hammer when you can beat it (later on). So ignore it for now and return and take your next left, grabbing the One-Piece Dress and entering the nearby room. Take your first right and keep following through the next path until you get to some stairs on your right. Go up these and take an immediate right for a Window Set 2 and then go further up the stairs to save. Continue going straight and you’ll come to a big green Guard. He’s not too bad though, unleash most of your spells but try to keep a few. He’ll go down in a few turns and yield the Platinum. After the battle, take a right for a Mega Medicine and go straight and then right to the outside area. Save and get the treasure that yields some Mushrooms, Mega-Medicines, and an Escape Talisman. Keep going and talk to Rakgi and Rikie. Try to leave and the Guard will come by again, but he’s not any tougher. Hopefully you saved your MP though, some of it at least. He drops an Iron Hammer, and then you should return back to Obel.
Board the ship and if you have recruited at least ten characters, a scene will occur with Lilin the mermaid asking for your help. Her mermaid friends have been captured and might be sold. So get on that boat and head south to the large white dot. You’ll get in some scenes with some bad guys, choose the first option both times to protect Lilin and eventually recruit her. After the ordeal, don’t return to Obel but go north and a little west to find Mordo.
Not much at Mordo Island currently other than the Window Setting 4 by the trade ship and a Treasure Map by the Hot Spring Bath. Now go a good distance north and a little east. We’re looking for Nay Island. It’s a long trip, but it’s a bit south and just east of Iluya Island which is already on your map. Land at Nay and go downstairs to the right to find a Wool Loincloth. Go through the beach and upstairs a few times to get to a blacksmith who can upgrade your weapon to 7. Go up the stairs to the left of him and then go left to find a Treasure Map. Back the other way and go straight to a building (Village Chief’s Home). Search straight ahead on the book case for another Treasure Map. Take the middle stairs and go up to the High Ground. The Inn has yet one more of those great Treasure Maps, and the Old Book Volume 6 on the shelf next to the Innkeeper. Now return to the first area and use the stairs on the right to reach the Nay-Kobold settlement.
Actually, you’ll be at the StoneCutter’s Field, where you should go straight and get (you guessed it) another Treasure Map, and continue on and you’ll be there.
Go to the Trading Post and get Perrault to join you. You can rest at the Hot Springs if you’d like, also stop by the back of the Hot Springs via the left side for another Treasure Map. I think I found another one around here but I’m uncertain. Anyway, in Bartholomew’s house, check it for the Old Book Volume 3. That’s about it, so get on your boat. Head east for a bit and you’ll find Na-Nal.
Be careful, you fight battles around here. Talk to the guys to your left and sell those Ores if you bought them from the Nay-Kobolds. Go towards the beach and go right when you get there. Go up on the boat and search the basket for a Treasure Map, and then search behind the boat to see a treasure, which prompts a battle against a Golden Hairball. Nothing hard, take him out and you’ll get 1000 potch and a Treasure Map.
Near the town you can enter the Inn, and be sure to save. Talk to Rita next to you and she’ll challenge you to Rita-Pon. Rita Pon is a game in Suikoden IV that is very annoying and one that goes on until Rita cleans you out or you’ve won enough to get her to join. Always choose to continue without settling until you get to her limit but make sure to back out and reset if she takes too much of your money.
Further back in the village is the Village Chief’s house where there is a Stone of Strength. Talk to Reinhold along the way and he’ll have you duel Mitsuba. She’s likely very easy for you and will charge you (or has done this to me a few times). Afterwards Reinhold and Mitsuba will join the 108 stars of destiny. Grab the other treasure map in the rune shop and then you can probably head back to Obel.
