Xian Zhu Xuande
ParticipantYou know… this might tie in to a bug which was reported by, I believe, Tarrot at SoSZ. Or it might have been Xiahou Mao. Sometimes when a character in their party, while playing the 2.0 mod, died and was resurrected, their agility was destroyed for some reason. They would always go last. It happened to me while testing, too. Pang De bit the dust in a Wu battle and I resurrected him back at a city. From that point on he would go after everyone else. I stopped following it a short while later so I’m not sure if it self-resolved.
I don’t remember ever encountering this in the regular DoaE.

KeymasterYea I heard of that too, but this is different. This happens for characters who have never died.
I’ll upload the newer mod to the download section soon, and I’ll link you…

KeymasterAnyway, Lei Bo just died at the Yuan Shao – Nan Yang Bridge ambush….but I resurrected him and he’s still going 3rd or whatever. But yea maybe that happens to certain characters only or something.

ModeratorLYS, the AGI values in the ROM corresponded to the ones DoaEd lists – which is expected (I double-checked – Jiang Wei still has 250 AGI listed in DoaEd, so I’m 99% sure I’m reading from/saving to the same place.
The only thing I can think of is – are they also going behind enemy generals? It could be DoaEd or DoaTed accidentally changes the rebel/brigand/pirate/etc agility values.
Also, other news – I’m looking at doing a redesign of the layout of DoaEd. I’ve been doing some general code cleanup I should’ve done a long time ago, and this is sort of a side effect.

How does this look? Any changes you’d like to see?

KeymasterYea it’s really a strange thing. Because early on in the game, Yuan Yin’s agility stays true and he goes before most. But after some time his agility just goes in the tank. Ji Ling and Yuan Shao are the worst though – and yes, they go after all the enemy generals and then the rebels / brigands / bandits.
The rebels are actually quite fast in the Shu area and later on. Before that, they all go after every general.
I like the editor layout. Nice and clean, I especially like the sprite / portraits next to each other at the top.

ParticipantVery clean layout for the editor! I like it!
Thinking it through, I can come up with only one request:
It would make much more sense for the sprites to be in alphabetical order than in order by ROM appearance. Once you’ve used the editor for a little while you become accustomed to which sprite uses what name. It would save some time to have them in a readily accessible order. :)
Very good work!

KeymasterOne thing I want to mention about the Editor. In a previous version of the Yuan Shu Mod, I made Lu Fan have the role of Zhang Fei. Since Lu Fan is less than stellar, I also took the no-billeting feature off so he could be thrown in the billeting.
This turns out to be a problem later on, when Liu Bei delegates Zhang Fei and Guan Yu to Chang Sha and Gui Yang. Follow me here….
If you don’t have Lu Fan in your party, someone else will leave! For me it was Chen Gong ( who was my tactician in slot #7). And Lu Fan was still in the billeting! So I go to Chang Sha to see what happened and sure enough Lu Fan is there – basically, Chen Gong disappeared, and there is a Lu Fan on the throne and in my billeting :) So removing the billeting for one of those characters kinda breaks the game in a way.
Also, the agility bug really fucks up the usefulness of a few of my characters. Ji Ling and Yuan Shao still go last all the time no matter how high I put their agility.

KeymasterAbout the agility. I notice that Yuan Yin goes about where he should early on in the game (200 or so agility). However I notice his agility hits the toilet at Chang An, after you rest and move on towards Yuan Shu.
That said I’d like to say I’m gaining a new appreciation for the new DoaEd, being able to mess around with the portrait values and change the mustaches, beards, etc. It’s awesome.

ModeratorI’ve taken a look in that section of the text and I don’t see anything amiss… I might check again later, but it all looks the same to me, aside from the exact locations of the text (which I wouldn’t imagine would change much).

ParticipantAnother neat feature would be to adjust the portrait values displayed for each slot. Only show the bottom of portraits for the sixth slot, the top for the first. The third tile of each portrait for the third slot. That would make it fun and easy to arrow-key up and down through the entries to quickly prepare new generic portraits for officers in a mod. :)

ParticipantWhen is the next version coming up Niahak ? I can’t wait
DoaE gave birth to Huo Hu.

ModeratorNext release might take a while. I’ve been busy this week, and I’m moving this weekend (just 10 minutes away, but still a pain to pack everything up and all).
I’ll be back to it eventually… for now we could put together a list of requested features.
-All soldier values (instead of only present ones)
-Portrait values for slots 1-6
Also, outstanding potential issues:
-Agility bug
-Horse-person in town
Also, update to new layout will be in next version.

KeymasterHmm I think that is most of what we’ve brought up.
Maybe an easy way to edit weapons, items, spell names, and those other hard-coded things that need to be accessed in WindHex to edit. That seems like more of a DoaTed task though and I’m not even sure how possible it is.

ModeratorWoe is me! I downloaded a copy of DoaEd to check someone’s stats, only to find the program refusing to work! And when I tried downloading DoaTed, it had the same problem!
"The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135). Click on OK to terminate the application."
Maybe this PC is too old to run it? :(
Files are at http://www.niahak.org/images/DOAE/DoaEditorv094.zip and http://www.niahak.org/images/DOAE/DoaTedv004.zip
Computer specs:
Celeron 1.8 GHz
256 MB Ram
Win XP Pro 2002, service pack 2
No programs running that wouldn’t also running on the main computer (I think)
I’m not a hardware person, so I have no clue what other specs would be relevant; but if you have any hunches, just ask away.
