regarding the shu part…cao cao says that liu zhang is his blood relative in this version. perhaps you, the wise text editor, can alter that to say something to the effect of: liu zhang has been captured? this is a perfect opportunity to swallow shu while it is in disarray…

so, my vote for the sons are cao zhang and pang de. they are the most powerful left. unless you want to make 2 generals from shu join up, like ma chao, zhang lu, or wei yan…
What about Zhong Hui and Xu Zi? Zhong Hui was a talented tactician warrior general like deng ai and Xu Zi was powerful.

Sorry about my language(didn’t mean anything by it), but yeah, you could give him credit for that, he fought 50 bouts with him which is quite impressive. But Xiahou Wei was better. Also that stuff about Xiahou Mao was only in the novel.
