That’s pretty cool. I’ll be interested to see about that if you put it into your DoaE Hacking files at KMA. Could be some neat additions to the YS mod when I get back to that.
I remember you telling me about the R4 before. After a quick search they look to be 20-30$, does that sound right? Could be a worthwhile investment to play games on a trial basis, like you say.
I had a feeling DS emulation on CPU’s sucked. It only interested me for taking snapshots of DS games, something I don’t have an ability to do but I wish I did. Anyway yea, even if I downloaded Tierkreis I’d be buying it to support Suikoden, in hopes that some day Suiko VI comes out on the PSTree. That would make me very happy :)

If I haven’t done so when you get to a point where you want to do it just let me know and I’ll send the instructions to you.
Those are pretty decent prices for the R4. :)
Only Suikoden game I’ve ever disliked is IV. Every other one has been awesome fun!
March 31, 2009 at 10:18 pm #29769DragonAtmaModeratorBut what if they, say, release suikoden 6 on a system other than the PSTree-Fiddy?
March 31, 2009 at 10:44 pm #29770TimbukiParticipantSo I started playing this mod yesterday and it has been quite a bit of fun so far. I am currently at the gate with Lu Bu and Chen Gong and good God it’s hard! I almost beat it a couple of times but Chen Gong’s Guard and Recover tactics make it a bit difficult. I’m going to keep going at it and I think it’s beatable but I just thought I’d comment on that.
Also, I may have missed it but I’ve been looking around the forum for several days and haven’t been able to find a list of the new English tactics correlated with the old tactics names. I played the original game quite a bit back in the day and got used to the old names but am having a little bit of trouble figuring out what some of the new tactics are supposed to be.
April 1, 2009 at 2:50 am #29771Xian Zhu XuandeParticipantAh, Lu Bu and Chen Gong. The one right at the start? Make sure you picked up Li Dian—useful if you need the extra soldiers—and Guo Jia in the cave. Some armor from Chenliu (Xuzhou) can also help out quite a bit. If all else fails a level or two should get you a fire tactic that can be used to easily wipe out Lu Bu, leaving only Chen Gong to deal with. :)
I’ll put together a list of tactic names.

April 1, 2009 at 4:32 am #29773TimbukiParticipantYeah, it’s closer to the beginning of the game. It’s the gate where you get the Intro Letter, in the middle of Yuan Shu’s area (right after the Ji Ling fight). I think I’m fairly close to getting Yan Re (or Blaze), so maybe that will give me the edge I need. I have been finding that a healthy number of resurrects, for certain battles, are very helpful as well. I may grab a few more of those and try again.
Thanks for the Tactic list! I was able to figure out what a lot of them were but there were some I was having to stop and do some looking at the original tactic progression to figure out. This list should help me out quite a bit, especially when it comes to reporting on enemy generals to see what tactics they have.
April 1, 2009 at 5:51 am #29774Xian Zhu XuandeParticipantIf you’ve picked this mod up after having been away from the game for a while it might be good to read the hints and tips posted with the latest release (and on the first page). They can serve as a pretty nice refresher. If you ever need hints and tips for battles just post your tactics and the castle you’re facing and I can give you some ideas. :)
April 1, 2009 at 11:46 pm #29775TimbukiParticipantWell, I got one more level and that did it. A combination of more troops, the Blaze tactic, recruiting Ji Ling (and switching out Li Dian for him), and luck allowed me to beat it without too much trouble today. This time around Chen Gong didn’t cast Guard once (one of the other times, I used up 2/3 of my TP trying to Negate his constant Guard casting) and only Recovered when near death twice.
I just got Ma Chao and so far, no more trouble. I’ll keep playing it and if I notice anything worth commenting on I’ll post it. So far, the mod has been pretty great! :-)
April 2, 2009 at 12:19 am #29776Xian Zhu XuandeParticipantGlad you’re enjoying it!
This is a beta test of the mod so if you see anything worth commenting on at all along the way, please do!
April 2, 2009 at 10:38 pm #29777TimbukiParticipantJing Zhou is a dirty dirty bitch! I am on Ling Ling castle right now. I have only tried it once or twice but it’s proving to be as big of a bitch as the other 3 castles in JZ. Lu Bu at Chang Sha was the easiest for me actually and I seriously had to play the Liu Biao fight 12 to 15 times before I got it! I’ll just have to spend some more time leveling. Wow, did it get tough quick though.
I did notice a couple of dialogues that I wasn’t sure about. Both of them were in Jizhou castle. One guy says:
"A shop there has developed a new war spear. (then something about procuring some)"
and another guy says:
"The treasures in the palace used to belong to us anyway."
For the first one I was wondering if "there" was supposed to be "here". The second one just seemed kind of awkward. I wasn’t sure what he was talking about or referring to. Did Yuan Shao steal the treasure and they got the it back after I beat Yuan Shao? Anyway, they just seemed a little awkward so I thought I’d bring them up.
April 2, 2009 at 10:55 pm #29778Xian Zhu XuandeParticipantI’ve been told by others that the Lu Bu battle isn’t as hard as it was intended to be, and you’re not the only person who found the Liu Biao battle to be a challenge. The Jingzhou battles, aside from that one, aren’t super-hard, though. Make sure you’re putting tactics like Doubt and Mislead to good use! If you’ve still got Guard make sure you’re using it and keeping it up. If you’ve got Evade it works even better for some of those fights. :)
Thanks for your thoughts on the scripts. The first is based on an original DoaE script and I just changed the message to ‘war spear’ instead to better describe the weapon. You’re right. That correction would be better.
The second is from DoaE. You said it was in Jizhou?
I’ll go in and change it to something that makes a little more sense. :)
April 2, 2009 at 11:18 pm #29779TimbukiParticipantYeah, they were both in Jizhou castle. I didn’t realize they were in the original DoaE script. I guess it’s been a while since I played through the original game and actually talked to everyone.
Just a quick emulation question for you. I am using Nestopia to play the mod. I started playing it at work during lunch and on my afternoon break and that is the game that I am up to Jing Zhou on. The problem is my computer at work is a PC and I have a mac at home and I haven’t been able to get my save state to work on the mac (even though I am using Nestopia on both computers). I was wondering if you guys knew of a way to make a Windows save state work on a Mac. I’ve started playing the mod again at home but if I could just pick up where I left off at work that would be great.
Also, I just got to the gate where you recruit Guo Jia (on my game at home) and he says something to the effect of, "I am an officer of meagre talent". "Meagre" is a correct spelling of the word but is an older English version of it. I was just wondering if that was intentional or not. If so, then disregard this part of the comment. I just thought I’d mention it.
And lastly, is there a way to make items dropable? Specifically I am wondering about the Gold Key or the Gemsword. In this mod, you can’t recruit Lu Bu which means if you want to get Xun You you are stuck with one of the two items for the rest of the game. Is there any way around this?
April 3, 2009 at 3:02 am #29780Xian Zhu XuandeParticipantHuh… I would have thought Nestopia saves would have been transferable from the PC to the Mac, but I guess not? I use Nestopia on my Macintosh as well, but I’ve never actually tried to transfer the save from one to the other (I use FCEUX in Windows for the modding features). If the battery RAM images don’t transfer have you tried moving a saved state file (.frz)? Perhaps you can copy it over to the Macintosh and load the state, which would also load your battery RAM saves?
Thanks for pointing that out. I’ll switch the script to use meager instead of meagre. :)
There is currently no way around the Gemsword/Golden Key issue, though I may be able to look into it down the road. It shouldn’t be too big a problem. Just toss it onto your seventh general and it’ll generally stay out of the way (I usually have my seventh general in billeting anyway). All the other items in the game serve a purpose.
April 3, 2009 at 3:31 am #29781TimbukiParticipantI’ll give it a try tomorrow and see if I can get it to work. If not, I’m catching up pretty quickly on the one I started here at home. Either way, I’ll keep going at it. Thanks for the ideas! :-)
