I’m sure others will be playing.

ModeratorI’ve gotten through most of YT (keep getting interrupted) and will continue tomorrow.
Before I forget, though, a brief suggestion: On battles, when your officers are hit normally there is a message along the lines of
[Officer] has taken [^]
X damage
Can you take away the requirement to press "A" on that message? I think it would speed up "manual entry" battles quite a bit and although confirmation is good to get the user to notice the damage, I don’t think it’s really necessary 95% of the time…

ParticipantHuh… not a bad suggestion. I’ve never attempted to do something like that, although I do remember feeling like I had control of things like this when I was manually entering scripts. I tried to look it up in DoaEd but I wasn’t able to find that line. Are you familiar with the process of removing that confirmation off the top of your head?
It is probably as simple as removing the newline carat, isn’t it?

ParticipantHehe. I’m just tired. I should be sleeping. :)
I just patched the ROM with fixes for a few of the minor issues already discovered at SoSZ along with your request, Niahak. The "[VALUE] [LVL-SLDR-AMT] of [OFFICER-2]’s soldiers were defeated.[END]" script no longer calls for user interaction. I tested it in-game and I actually like it quite a bit so far. You can re-download the ROM using the same link to use it.
And that gives me an interesting idea…
It might be worth adding confirmation to tactics like Negate.

ParticipantAnd so I can keep track of changes in an orderly manner… :)

Keymasterhehe, yea I cut out that mandatory click after getting hit myself on my last Yuan Shu mod update. It is SO much better, and such a little thing…

ParticipantI’ve been searching the forums here at LYS the last couple of days and can’t seem to find what I am looking for. I just started playing this rom and I have enjoyed the mod quite a bit so far, but where I am having some problems is with the English tactics names. I played the original version enough that I got to where I knew the old names and their functions pretty well, and I can figure out some of the new names but there are some of them that are a little more obscure.
What I was wondering is if there is a list somewhere that correlates the old tactic names with the new, English tactics names and what they do. I’ll keep looking around and it could be that I just missed it, but if one of you guys knew of a list that would be quite helpful.

ParticipantI never thought SoSZ would be the place where all the testing involvement takes place. :)
This is the Destiny of an Emperor board!
Searchable Items
I’ve figured out how to add new searchable items to cities and the overworld map. If anybody has any fun suggestions for the Cao Cao edition please send them to james [at] kongming [dot] net. I’m not going to publish the list of searchable items I decide to add because I think it would be much more fun to allow players to discover and share them independently. :)

Keymasterhaha. Yea, all of our testers left. If I’m not playing it, no one is. I’m excited to play it don’t get me wrong, it just happened to come out days after the only new game I’m probably going to buy all year (Tierkreis, which is pretty fine btw).
You mean adding searchable items like in wells? Or adding treasure chests around dungeons?

ModeratorI’ve been busy with all kinds of random stuff lately, and haven’t gotten much past the Liu Bei / Taishi Ci fight. You made a lot of these areas much rougher, you know – running into Jia Xu in random encounters is a nightmare.
March 31, 2009 at 12:35 am #29762Xian Zhu Xuande
ParticipantI know you’re busy, LYS. Speaking of which, is that Suikoden game available in the United States? Or are you playing the European release?
I can add items to the map. That could be under a well, outside a city, in the mountains somewhere, on a road. Wherever. :)
No worries, Niahak. I was just giving you guys some grief. Jia Xu is still a royal jerk, but overall the game’s difficulty has actually been decreased. And areas which are still hard are hard in a more balanced manner, now.
I’ve updated the ROM twice since it was announced, most recently to fix an unexpected bug which impacted Cao Pi’s leveling. I’m going to be updating it again soon with some hidden items and more along the way as reported bugs are patched and features are possibly added. All of these updates will be compatible with saves based on the original complete beta release, but not earlier incomplete beta releases.

KeymasterHuh. Well since you’re editing it so often, maybe it’s better that I’m preoccupied at the moment and I can play a more complete version.
As for Suikoden Tierkreis, it came out March 25th in the USA for DS. There are some things different from previous Suikoden’s, but the feel is much the same. It’s a great game, only 35$, you should get it when you have a minute to play…

ParticipantIt is complete enough for playing. The edits I’m making are generally just tweaks. :)
I wanted to download the ROM for the Suikoden game just to make sure I like it. I’ve started doing that with DS games. If I like them I head right on out to the store to buy the actual cartridge, and if I don’t I move on with my life. Thanks to taking that precaution I’ve found some great games which I wouldn’t have played otherwise and I’ve avoided some games which I would have enthusiastically purchased but turned out to be poor or unenjoyable for me.
I’m pretty excited about the idea of Suikoden on my DS.

KeymasterYea I figured you had most of the nuts and bolts finished. I am definitely excited to play it, I had fun up until Jing Zhou.
By adding weapons / items, do you have to use an old weapon / item slot or can you create a new value for a new item?
Oh damn, that’s nice about the ds games. So I take it you need that DS add-on to play roms right? Or can I just play a ds rom on a ds emulator on my computer? I assume the former. But yea, I could see how that’s very useful. I was skeptical about DS Suikoden since it seemed like a spin-off, no true runes, etc, but it’s been done well (besides being a bit too easy).

ParticipantI haven’t figured out how to create new weapons and items, but I have figured out how to create new hidden items. For example, I could place another Trident somewhere in Yuan Shao’s territory. Or I could put some gold on the ground under the horse at the beginning of the game. Or a steed. Or… whatever. I can even put food on the ground. :)
Pretty much anything in the item table I just posted.
And as far as i can tell I might be able to add ten or more new hidden items.
I use an R4. There are other add-ons. Basically, it is just a flash card reader shaped like a DS cartridge with Linux installed natively on it, running a program which reads the ROM to the DS using the DS’s own capabilities to render it (thus getting you near-perfect native emulation). Emulation on the computer just sucks for DS games.
Some people use these devices to play all the DS games they want without paying any money but for me it just serves as a way to play free trials. It also lets me do things like play games which were never released in the United States, which can be cool. I did it with the Romance of the Three Kingdoms games and Final Fantasy before it came out.
