ParticipantCan’t really cut out townfolk sprites or you’re going to wind up with Guan Yus walking around in Xuzhou. There are also certain officer sprites you can’t change without changing people in towns (like the Liang Gang or Zhou Yu sprites). There are, however, a handful of ass-ugly (in my view at least) sprites which are used only for officers–like the one which makes the officer look like a fighter pilot of some sort. I replaced some of them and swapped any officers using those sprites.
And yeah, you’ve got to use the color templates for DoaE, so the colors will vary from DoaE II. Good news is that you can use all four color profiles.

ModeratorI already replaced Cai Yong’s sprite with a sprite that did not involve making out with the ugly tree.

ParticipantI think Cai Yong’s sprite is one of those that got axed in DoaE Cao Cao Edition.

KeymasterJeez, taking out Yuan Yin / Cai Yong’s sprite.
First people hate on the DoaE 1 generic portraits. Now it’s the sprites. Ya’ll gotta realize, they’re the fucking classics.
If DoaE 2 was so sweet we’d be making mods for that instead of the original huohu

ModeratorBut Yuan Yin is Yuan Shao’s nephew, and thus deserves better!
That and, uh, there’s a very good reason for importing a new character sprite. >_>

ParticipantAll I’ve got left is Yuan Shao and Jingzhou!

KeymasterCool man. It’s been some time but I’m sure this is gonna be a sweet mod once finished. We haven’t even been able to taste the mod past Jing Zhou so it will be fresh.
Didn’t you clear the Yuan Shao / Jing Zhou areas long ago? Or are you talking re-doing them?
I have a hard time believing we started these fucking things in 2007 but shit, it’s been a while.

ParticipantYeah—it is insane how much time has passed with this. Then again, I always think the same thing when I look back to any of the internet projects I started. I still can’t wrap my head around the fact that SoSZ is now around seven years old. That’s just nuts. I’ve been maintaining a freckin’ Three Kingdoms forum for seven years now. All’s cool, though. I’ll keep the thing around for seven more and longer.
I must have been smoking something when I thought to myself, "Cool! I’ll create a Wei mod!"
Yeah, last everyone played I had finished the game up through Jingzhou, including Yuan Shao’s region. I’m not going to be making many changes to Yuan Shao’s region (though I’ve already started making some considerable balance adjustments) but Jingzhou is going to be receiving a facelift. In the public version it is hard, but not very well populated thanks to the Shu roster. The new Jingzhou is going to be heavily populated, by comparison, and perhaps one of the most original regions of the game. I’m looking forward to seeing what I can do with it.
Once Jingzhou is finished I’ll play a bit more just to get a feel for things, possibly make some final adjustments, and then the first beta will be released. Everyone can enjoy the game from start to finish, then.

Revised Yuan Shao region scripting is basically complete, as is the shuffling of recruitable officers. Ma Chao is official in as the replacement for Xu Shu (who is Jiang Wei in the beta). I’ve just got some testing to do as I wrap up Yuan Shao’s area, which isn’t going to change a whole lot more, and then it is time to rebuild Jingzhou from the ground up. The ‘complete’ beta release isn’t very far from that point!

ParticipantJingzhou is Complete!

And with that the game’s storyline and presentation are basically complete for beta release! I’ve got two free officer slots which I’m going to assign and I’m going to clean up a few loose ends, but aside from that, beta release is just around the bend. Stay tuned and you’ll have a download to play soon!

ParticipantDestiny of an Emperor 2.0: Cao Cao Edition Beta 1 Released!
Whew! It took nearly two years of working, off and on, to research all the changes made in this mod and ‘complete’ it (to beta satisfaction), but the wait has been worth it—it is finally here! I’ve completed the mod from start to finish with numerous new scripts, new storylines, and plenty of unexpected developments to provide an entirely new experience. Not only that, I’ve gone back through original levels to apply revisions and updates, brining the whole game up to a single standard. Now we begin the downhill ride to the final release for everyone to enjoy. I hope quite a few of you download and experience the Destiny of an Emperor 2.0 Cao Cao Edition mod!

Testing
As your eyes will be the first ones looking over many game changes outside my own, there is a good chance you might catch things which I have missed. And there is still plenty of room left for suggestions. Please pay careful attention to game balance and scripts. Watch for incorrect officer names (such as Wu Tugu instead of LIu Bei). Watch for spelling errors. Was a script poor? Let me know so I can revise it! Was a battle too difficult or too easy? Did something leave you with a sour feeling? Did you find something to be particularly cool or fun? These are all things I would love to hear about!
In testing the script, please talk to everyone. Please re-visit areas to read revised scripts. Thank you!
And remember—it isn’t too late to make game changes and fun adjustments. I’m still interested in your ideas and feedback. Even large game changes might be considered if viable and worthwhile. After having spent so much time on this project I don’t mind spending a little more to make it even better.

Release Notes
Important notes which are relevant to previous discussion.
- I took a different approach with Dian Wei’s soldiers. What do you think?
- Xiahou Dun and Xiahou Yuan cannot be placed into billeting due to an unhandled exception.
- The MTP values have been adjusted to counter-balance the loss of two tactics and make it easier to play the game without focusing on resets. You can still do it if you like, but you can get good final values even without restarting. MTP gains now range from 4–6 instead of 3–5.
Hints and Tips
Gameplay hints and suggestions.
- Always use the latest armor when possible.
- Elixirs can help in a few stretches of the game.
- Guard is an extremely dangerous enemy tactic.
- Note enemy generals with Negate when using tactics like Guard, Thwart and Evade.
- High intelligence officers can be extremely helpful early in the game while dealing with enemies like Taishi Ci, Lu Bu, Dong Zhuo, Zhang Fei, Ji Ling and others.
- Later in the game low-intelligence officers can become a considerable liability as enemy tactics are much more dangerous, but don’t forsake strength in your party.
- By the time you reach Yuan Shu’s territory Resurrects should be well stocked.
- Do not forget the Trident in Nanyang. Give it to a 1,000+ soldier warrior.
- Do not forget to buy Wood Hs in Wan as soon as Ma Chao joins.
- Use surplus money to purchase Power Pills. Plan their use (Zeal + Wang Shuang or Wen Chou + 1,000 soldiers + Power Pill = roughly 1,000 soldiers damage in a single blow).
- Smoke Pots will help to survive long trips and caves.
- Expect some surprises in battles. Some old DoaE rules have been broken.
- Re-evaluate each tactic as you learn it. Many have been adjusted, sometimes considerably.
- Get to know your tacticians. They offer greater variety than they ever have before.
- Get to know new officers. Some might offer unique surprises.
- If you are stuck, consider new strategies with your tactics, or gain a few levels. A key tactic might soon become available (such as Guard when entering Jingzhou).

KeymasterExciting, it is finally out. If only this happened in early March, before Tierkreis came out. I’d be all over starting today. Alas, my Tierkreis guide needs to be finished before I start this journey and give feedback. It will get done but I won’t get a chance to start until early – mid April or whenever Tierkreis is done.
Good job though, I’m excited to see all the changes and gameplay features within….I’ll update our ROM download section to include the wei DoaE rom huohu
No billetting for the Xiahou’s? Couldn’t you put the no billeting on someone like Cao Pi? edit – nevermind, I forgot about the fact that if you put either the Zhang Fei or Guan Yu slot in billeting, the game gets messed up when they go to leave for Chang Sha / Gui Yang (aka the bottom 2 characters disappear from your party).
