ParticipantIt is a play on Liu Bei’s instructions to Zhuge Liang that if Liu Shan proves incapable of ruling that Zhuge Liang should take over in his place. I just… well, had fun with it. And yes, that portrait for Zhuge Liang is much better for this! Especially with a more bad-ass background tile. :)

ParticipantWhew… it was a productive weekend, thanks to cancelled plans.
I just finished the castle right before the final battle with Zhuge Liang. All that remains is to write scripts for Chen/Jin/(now Han) castle, verify the gate battles before Zhuge Liang, check balance and officers for the final battles, write the end-of-game scripts, and then perhaps walk through the game to check for obvious script errors and rewrites. Once that’s done I’ll play again from start to finish rewriting scripts where appropriate, fleshing out some parts like Jiang Wei’s stay with Cao Cao, and I’m going to pay particular attention to a careful remake and improvement of Jingzhou.
When that’s done, the beta will be released! There might only be one beta for this game—I’m not sure. It depends on what comes up while people are playing through. It is going to be in good shape at that point, though. :)

Still haven’t quite fixed that extra level problem, it seems. But I’ve figured out what causes it. When you gain a level with experience over 999,999 you get an extra level-up. So I’ll be able to get this fixed up. I just need to make sure that isn’t possible. I’m to the final Luoyang battle, then it is time for the second round of working and testing.

ParticipantA New Adventure Begins

I’ve ‘completed’ the game from start to finish and I’ve started my second playthrough. I stopped to re-write all the scripts from the beginning of the game while doing so. I can do so much more with the scripts now than I ever could before—it will be pretty obvious while playing through after these revisions. If anyone wants to play through the first regions in the posted version giving me feedback for the first public beta now’s the time to do it. But there’s no harm in waiting until the beta is released. The only benefit would be a more thorough round of testing. :)

ParticipantChen Deng and Early Strategists
I was thinking about the strategists you get early in the game. Currently you get Cheng Yu in the first city and, in short order, you pick up Chen Deng and soon Cao Zhi (if I recall correctly). I’m trying to think of some strategists to toss out here that aren’t top-tier (you get Xun You pretty soon, and Xun Yu before long as well). Cheng Yu is fine to give out so early but what can I do with Chen Deng and Cao Zhi’s slots?
I thought about Chen Deng and considered, for a moment, that you might only get to meet them and that neither would join you. I could have some fun with that script, just as I did with a few other Liu Bei-specific events later in the game.

ParticipantHehe… I came up with something pretty cool for Chen Deng, so scratch that. I’ll let people discover how it plays out when they play through the ROM. I’m still looking for a good idea for Cao Zhi, though.

ParticipantI hit a slump in Dong Zhuo’s territory trying to figure out a redistribution of officers, but it is pretty much sorted out now. On with the game! I don’t think there’ll be any big projects through the remainder of Dong Zhuo and Yuan Shu’s land. I might have some scripting to do as it relates to Sima Shi and whoever replaces Xu Zhe, but that’ll be sorted out. Beyond that, there’s the complete remake of Jingzhou (it is going to be one hell of a remake I’m thinking) and some other tweaks I’ve come up with while playing.

It will be so nice when this is finished…

ParticipantYeah, I think you’ll like it. I put a lot of time into making Cao Zhang, Xiahou Ba, and some other folks very unique and fun characters. This process involved bringing some sprites over from Destiny of an Emperor 2. It took me a while to make that a pleasant process—damn it was annoying at first—but I’m pretty good at it now. I brought Lu Bu over so I could use his DoaE sprite for another officer while at the same time keeping Lu Bu unique.
I figured he deserves it seeing as how he can be in your final party now.

I never did like Guan Yu’s sprite…
I thought about doing something crazy for this battle. I could have removed He Man’s battle from his script (and even replaced him with another person if I wanted) and then transferred that battle to Lu Bu upon accepting the Gemsword. You would then really fight Lu Bu in an ambush, which would feature a pretty much impossible battle against a bulked up Lu Bu (or a Lu Bu from later in the game). It would start to get really glitchy if you won, but even that could be tied together with some pain. But instead I decided to simply keep the ‘game over’ ending I had in place for Lu Bu before.

Wow… that Chang’an battle sure is mean. It always has been. One thing that always catches me in this mod is my old habit of never buying armor through earlier portions of the game. Buying no armor in this mod is a death sentence. Dian Wei and Guo Jia lend a very helpful hand to the difficult Chang’an battle, though. :)

KeymasterHey that’s cool. So not only can you pull in sprites from DoaE2, but you can change the color on them too? Or is that the standard color for the DoaE 2 Guan Yu sprite?
That Chang An battle is tough. Jia Xu is a monster in this mod.

ModeratorColors have to use the DoaE1 palette, so you pretty much have to use different colors from the ones used in DoaE2.
That said, I’m wondering which sprites you’re cutting out to use the new shiny ones…
