I just finished this game, quite good I must say. So I thought I’d give it another run-through, only this time I’d try to keep my level as low as possible. Right now I just got Yan Liang from Jizhou, and am at level 4.
Lordyuanshu, do you have a list of the mandatory battles for DOAE2? I only want to fight those battles so I can keep my experiance down. I thought Ji Ling and Yuan Yin were optional, but I went to the end of Yuan Shu’s cave before fighting either, and after fighting just Ji Ling, and Yuan Shu wasn’t there.

Interesting idea. Something I haven’t done definitely…
Well most of the gate/castle battles are forced. If you’re looking to dodge random encounters, use Yan Dun ("Smoke Pot" from DoaE 1) or run.
Other than that….I think you can not fight a few battles…like the fire ambush on Guan Yu’s march (2nd to last gate before he sails back to Ji Zhou)…probably more, I’ll edit this if I remember.

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingMarch 22, 2006 at 1:08 am #15048Taishi CiParticipantI’m now at Jingzhou at level 7, going to attack the bandits.
Here are the battles I have fought:
Ji Ling
Yuan Yin
Yuan Shu
Che Zhou
First Yan Liang Gate Battle
Second Yan Liang Gate Battle
First Guan Yu Gate Battle
Second Guan Yu Gate Battle
Third Guan Yu Gate Battle
Fifth Guan Yu Gate Battle
Zhou Cang (Since this ends after two rounds, I don’t remeber if I got experiance)
Cai Yang
Guo Tu
I haven’t fought any random battles.
So far, it seems pretty easy. I’m guessing the difficulty won’t pick up until after Chi Bi.

Yeah, I think eventually you’re going to have a problem, because so much of the attack power/defense is based on soldier count, and once you start facing dominating soldier counts I don’t know how you’ll survive. Do you have enough money to keep up on equipment?

I just try to only use the Inn when I have to and I sell off anything I don’t need. Later on I can pick up some good equips in chests, so if I run low on cash I’ll have to make due with those.
I tried to cut corners again by going straight for Gong Du and Liu Pi, but Liu Biao wouldn’t let me continue until I saved the other villages too. Oh well…

Yeah, that game is a bitch for advancing the storyline sometimes. Well, I predict the first few hard battles you have will be against Lu Bu and/or Han Xian at Chang Sha.

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingMarch 22, 2006 at 1:40 am #15052Taishi CiParticipantAh, I remember fighting at Changsha in my previous game…hard stuff. Lu Bu wasn’t so bad, though. On that note, do you have to fight him at Han Castle?
Sima Hui:"You have some fine generals. But you need a good tactition."
Chen Deng not good enough for you, Sima?
March 22, 2006 at 1:43 am #15053Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterYeah Sima always has really good advice. haha. Yeah, you have to fight Lu Bu at Han castle. But that is where you get the Brocade sack from Pang Tong and you use it in battle, and draw Lu Bu out, and then defeat his army easily at Han. Their defense is way down and their attacks are meager. But later, especially at Ling Ling, he could be difficult.

Now at level 10 after torching Bo Wang.
The Lu’s were a little tough, since they did ~200 damage when my highest hp was in the 600s. But they only had the numbers advantage, so they went down after a while. I just kept attacking because at this point, LianHuo does less damage than my copper weapons.
Cao Ren was simple, just defend and heal until he burns to death.
Next up are the Cai’s, maybe they’ll give me some trouble.
March 22, 2006 at 3:04 am #15055Taishi CiParticipantGot through the Jingzhou Cai battle. Definately harder than anything before it in the challenge. I had to start over once.
Huang Zu and Han Sui deal out big damage until you can get them under 1000. Same with the Cai’s, although their damage is maybe ~70 less. The first run through I tried to focus on one person until I killed them, but the other overwhelmed me. On my winning run, I attacked Huang Zu until his health was under 1000, did the same for Han Sui, then one Cai, then the other one. Guan Ping had to keep healing a lot, since he was in the front. Zhou Cang died a couple times…brought him back once, left him dead after that. Once they all went under 1000, I had 2 or 3 of my guys whittle down their health while the other person (usually Guan Ping) healed. Went All-Out when it was down to Han Sui and the Rebel Army.
As a reward, I shot up three levels and now have the next fire tactic.
Since Zhou Cang is still dead, I think I can use Zhuge in the Xinye battle (only 6 people in my party). Let’s see how it turns out.
March 22, 2006 at 3:05 am #15056Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterOuch, yeah I do recall there is a big enemy soldier jump at that point in the game. So that was the battle of Jing Zhou castle or Xin Ye?

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingMarch 22, 2006 at 3:07 am #15057Taishi CiParticipantThat was at Jing Zhou. According to your guide Kuai Yue is there, a decent tactictian, but with YeHuo and Zhuge I might be able to make up for it.
Level 13 now, just for reference.
March 22, 2006 at 3:10 am #15058Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterIt seems tacticians are the least bit of your problem. In fact, their physical attacks are basically bonuses for you I’d say. You’ve got Xiahou Dun soon, that should be interesting.

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingMarch 22, 2006 at 5:06 am #15059Taishi CiParticipantI think Xiahou Dun is after Chi Bi, isn’t he? And I can get the Tally Order to make the fight easier.
Finished the Xinye Cai battle, it was a lot easier than the one at Jingzhou. I guess the levels really do make a difference. Kuai Yue knew YeHuo but he only used it a couple of times, the other generals just attacked. I dominated them and went back to Xiakou to meet Lu Su.
Now in Wu at level 14. I should probably go to Japan first, in case the level from the Orochi battle is what I need against Cai Mao.
March 22, 2006 at 7:44 am #15060Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterWhoops, yeah I got a little ahead of things there.
