ParticipantAre you re-writing all the scripts which don’t fit into place? Man, doing that in my mod has been a huge time sink. Fortunately the worst of it is overwith. I’m still not looking forward to rewriting, again, some of the Jingzhou scripts, and everything to do with Xu Zhe. There won’t be any more full-scale mods from me! Haha…

KeymasterYea I have been re-writing a bit. A lot of lines still make sense so I leave them or just edit them slightly. I haven’t even done the really heavy stuff at the end of the Shu section going into Wu. I suspect that will be cumbersome.
It is a lot of work! I’m probably not gonna do this for the Liu Zheng mod when I finish the LYS mod. As is I still have a lot of work until the YS mod is all the way finished but I’m at Wu and I’ll need to do a few play throughs to see how the battles balance out in Shu.
I’m just glad my mod didn’t get corrupt like the last one, that was some lost time even with a lot of recent saves of the mod.

KeymasterOk, the Yuan Shu Mod overhaul continues past the Shu section and through Wu. I only have Wei left to do.
This is including the text, but I have only edited a certain amount for the time being. I’ll do more text changes after the rom is entirely complete with the changes.
One big thing to mention is that I switched Lu Fan for Zhang Xun. Zhang Xun provides a strong, 200+ STR presence early on. But moreso the switch is made since Lu Fan actually worked for Wu at a time, so it made sense for him to switch over with Hua Xin at Chang Sha Castle (even though both officers worked for Yuan Shu before Wu).
As I said before in the previous post, the Luo Castle battle now features Lu Bu, Yang Feng and Zhang Liao. Ma Chao Ma Dai and Pang De are moved over to Mian Zhu Guan (renamed Xi Liang).
Zhang Ren, Wu Yi, and Fa Zheng wait at Cheng Du with Liu Zheng in what is actually a very tough battle.
Zhang Xun and Yuan Yin then leave for good, replaced by Qiao Rui and Yuan Xiang. Quite a drop between those two generals, but the guys who join have a high soldier count so they will be useful through Wu.
Since Zhou Yu and Han Ze are in the earlier Wu region in the Yuan Shu Mod (which is Jingzhou), they are not at Hui Ji Fortress. I replaced them with Zhu Huang and Zhu Ran. Same goes for ‘Chen’ Pu and Huang Gai. Other small changes loom throughout Wu, with Quan Cong and Liu Yong and Sun Shao making appearances.

KeymasterPics.
Random battle in Jingzhou with Wu officers –

Huo Hu has been busy at Hu Lao Gate.

Huang Zhong and Wei Yan take over Ling Ling Castle in a last ditch attempt for Shu –

Zhu Huan and Zhu Ran take over at Hui Ji Fortress

Quan Cong replaces Huang Gai who is used in the earlier Wu battles at Jingzhou.

Pan Zhang does the same, taking over for Zhu Zhi at Jin Du Castle – Also with Pan Zhang I happened to create the ugliest DoaE generic portrait yet –

– Liu Yong takes over for Yan Xun as the wondering crappy general in the Wu area.

Okay, now the first part of Wei is finished. Instead of Cao Pi, I have Cao Cao taking his role and Sima Yi taking him over. Since Yuan Shu and Cao Cao are such rivals I felt this was necessary, but I had to change a lot of the text referring to Cao Pi’s assassination of Cao Cao or whatever the standard DoaE plot is. In turn the early part of Wei is more true to the Cao Cao-Wei of pre-220 AD. Cheng Yu and Yu Jin and Wei Xu are replaced with Deng Ai Zhang He and Man Chong while Xu Zhu is replaced with Xu Huang (Xu Zhu takes over in the Cao Cao area for Xiahou Mao).

As you see, Liu Ye joins back after leaving (as Xu Zhe aka Dan Fu earlier in the game). He takes Jiang Wei’s spot.
It’s been a long haul, but I’m almost finished. This will be very satisfying when completed, but probably the most fun is going through it several times, testing the difficulty, making the text work, etc. It’s been good.

ParticipantIs that Cao Cao’s portrait up there? Why don’t you give him a unique portrait at the expense of someone else? If you’re not sure how to do it pick a point that’s good for you and upload the ROM. I’ll toss his portrait in for you and upload the modified ROM for you to continue with.
Or I can try to catch you on AIM at some point.

ModeratorGuan Xing and Zhang Bao’s portraits are likely quite replacable.

KeymasterMy Cao Cao is just an un-used generic portrait that I created. It belongs to no one else, just tried to get a faceless-like look with no hair. I would be open to changing it though. Were you saying James that you’d just put Cao Cao’s DoaE 2 portrait in there? That would be nice. I think the DoaE Cao Cao isn’t given a portrait, or actually I think he’s given Guan Xing’s portrait (and there are two Cao Cao’s in the standard DoaEditor if my memory serves me right). The fresh Yuan Shu rom can be downloaded on the roms page if you care to change him.
Still have the end part of Wei to do here. I could just keep it filled with Si Ma Yi’s goons, but Niahak and I were kinda talking about some possibilities. Hard to say with Yuan Shu since he died so early, but maybe having Liu Bei assassinate Cao Cao would be a neat twist, ending the game with Liu Bei. Currently, Liu Bei is in Yuan Shu’s role, so he dies at Nan Yang or Ji Zhou. I’d have to switch that and maybe put Guan Yu in Yuan Shu’s original role and give the option to take him out after Nan Yang. This also makes sense for the history aspect of it, even though it is still questionable at best. Still, it seems to make more sense with Liu Bei instead of Si Ma Yi as far as the timeline is concerned. We’ll see, I’ll have to deliberate but I think I like the idea of Liu Bei at the end to liven up the ending instead of keeping the same guys.

ParticipantYeah LYS, I was thinking Cao Cao from DoaE 2. Or if you wanted me to use another portrait that would be fine too. Just let me know when a good time to download, update, and re-upload it is (and if you want a few other portraits swapped I’ll do that for ya).
It would be cool if you mixed up the end of the game like that. Lots more work, but it is a wonderful treat for the mod later in the game to see unfamiliar things!

ModeratorYou can even use Flaming Cao Cao if you want to!

KeymasterHehe, well thank you guys for your offers. I think I’ll just go with standard DoaE 2 Cao Cao, white background, for his avatar in my Yuan Shu mod. I’d actually like the Romance of the Three Kingdoms 3 Cao Cao avatar but I’m sure those can’t be transferred to DoaE.
So if you want to help, just download the newest ROM of the Yuan Shu mod at the top post here – http://www.lordyuanshu.com/forums/topic/doae-yuan-shu-mod
Whichever one of you wants to do it that’s cool, I’ll give you credit :) – then email it to lordyuanshu at g mail dot com, or since KMA has those instant forum uploads you can just do it on the yuan shu mod thread there.
