Terranigma Freak
ParticipantOk, revised LOCC character guide. A little less crazy, and a little more straight forward. This has not been proofread.
Cao Cao – He’s the main character in the game, so you pretty much can’t avoid using him except for like 3 chapters. Extremely well balanced stats and requires no boosts from the fruits (that and it can’t go any higher). Cao Cao can use spells, but dominance is all you need to make Cao Cao unstoppable. IMO, his ultimate equipment would be: Sword of Heaven, Silver Armor, and God’s Shield.
Xiahou Dun – Xiahou Dun is one of your heavy hitters. His stats are very well rounded but 1 or 2 (I forget) dex fruits will truly make Xiahou Dun unbeatable. A must have character in your battles.
Xiahou Yuan – He’ll be one of your first archery units, and will serve you very well. His dexterity and defense leaves some room for improvement, but it’s not necessary. Xiahou Yuan can die in a duel against Huang Zhong, but it’s only in the red path, he’ll only be defeated in the blue path. Most of the time, you can kill Huang Zhong before he even reaches Yuan, so I wouldn’t worry.
Cao Ren – There are more than enough good cavalry units in the game, and Cao Ren just can’t keep up without some fruits to boost his stats. It’s not worth the effort when you have better characters like Zhang Liao.
Cao Hong – Easily the worst character in the game. None of his stats even reach the requirement standards built for his class. I think Koei might have made a mistake with his intelligence and power stat, though. I can not believe anyone would rate Cao Hong with a higher intelligence than power. His only saving grace is that his armor class allows him to move very quickly through water, but then again, so can Yue Jin and Li Dian.
Yue Jin – Yue Jin is much better than Cao Hong, and does not require any fruits to be considered usable. If you can spare 1 power fruit, then by all means, give it to him to maximize his strength growth.
Li Dian – Li Dian is similar to Yue Jin. He doesn’t need anything to be usable, but has room to improvements. Use him or Yue Jin, or wait for Pang De.
Xun Yu – He’s one of your first offensive based Tacticians you get in the game. All of them have a 90+ intelligence, and really that’s all you need. Use him!
Xun You – Healers are a must, and Xun You does just that. As he continues to grow, he’ll learn more powerful spells that’ll boost stats and give you other advantages. Alternate between him and Man Chong.
Dian Wei – One of the most powerful characters in the game. Like Cao Cao, there’s no need to use fruits on him. He’s already maxed all his important stats. Dian Wei’s class grants him the ability to execute consecutive strikes, as well as critical hits very often, and insane dexterity to hit accurately and dodge often. Adding to that are 2 of the most powerful special weapons his class can wield. Like Cao Cao, Dian Wei can also use spells to hinder his enemies. He has the ability to boost his own power, and poison enemies and lower their dexterity once he class changes. Even better, unlike Tacticians, Dian Wei’s can spam his spells and still fight physically. To top it all off, Dian Wei can move through water without any penalty to his movement. Dian Wei is one of the first characters you get who can get killed through a story event. Save him in Battle of Wan and you won’t have to worry about it again.
Guo Jia – Guo Jia’s a very tricky unit. Whereas Xun Yu the offensive unit, and Xun Yu’s defensive, Guo Jia lies somewhere in between. He has better healing spells compared to Xun Yu, and can fight back, unlike Xun You. His biggest weakness is accuracy. Give him and Jia Xu the Sword of the Seven Stars to enhance their accuracy. Guo Jia can also die, but you can save him by having him escape.
Cheng Yu – Cheng Yu’s the same as Xun Yu. Alternate between the 2 of them.
Yu Jin – He is the first foot archer you get in the game. His class is sort of similar to Dian Wei, but with arrows. His power leaves much to desire, though. You can equip one of the horses to give him amounted archer like movement, and the extra range of the foot archer for a double advantage over mounted archers.
Xu Chu – He is the only Bandit unit you get in the game, and Xu Chu does not disappoint. His raw power is second to none, and his class also has the added benefit of spells. His earth based spells don’t do much, but his Jeer spell lowers defense, and its effectiveness is based on percentage, not on his intelligence stat. Xu Chu can lower an enemy’s defense by just as much as Guo Jia or Jia Xu. Rocket Dart can turn him into an archer with melee attacks. His final advantage is the ability to move through rugged terrain with the greatest of ease. No fruits needed to increase his awesomeness.
Liu Ye – Now here’s a class that’s extremely fun/annoying. I know I’ve been saying use fruits on this and that character, but there are only so many to go around. Instead, save them all for Liu Ye — especially power and dex increasing fruits. You see, upon his first class change, Liu Ye’s catapult can hit 5 units simultaneously. A single powered up Liu Ye is like bringing 5 powerful units at once. His low movement will only last a few chapters before you get the wheel of wind. The catapult has the same added bonus against mounted units like the archer.
Xu Huang – He’s just like Yu Jin, but with different stats. I believe Yu Jin actually has the added benefit of higher luck, thus more critical hits compared to Xu Huang. Xu Huang does have more power, though. Use whoever you like, and use fruits as you see fit.
Man Chong – What else is there to say? Use Man Chong like you use Xun You. Healing spells can turn the tide of battle, or boost stats at the beginning to overwhelm your enemies from the get go. Word of advice — don’t be stingy with your spells (this applies to all tacticians). If you use them properly, you’ll kill everything before you even run out of MP.
Zhang Liao – He’s very similar to Xiahou Dun. Definitely a top rated mounted unit with some extra potential to be unlocked with the dex fruit.
Diao Chan – Think of Diao Chan as a mini Dian Wei, except for some slightly different spells and much weaker. Her dancer class does offer the extra benefit of recovering from status ailments, and restoring surrounding allies automatically.
Jia Xu – You have another Guo Jia. Use him wisely, and give him another Sword of Seven Stars if you have it.
Zhang He – There’s not much to say about Zhang He. He’s an archer, and does the job well. He’s useless if you already powered up your other archers, but does has the stats to keep up just the same.
Cao Pi – Ditch him. No point in using him when you have Zhang He and Xiahou Yuan. He doesn’t even have the power like they do.
Sima Yi – Sima Yi is the final Tactician you get, and also one of the coolest. He’s similar to Xun Yu and Cheng Yu, except for his lack of water spells, and extra wind and weather spells. Change the weather to allow spells to work, or sit your butt on a castle, and use Sandstorm to hit everything. When you’re low on MP, just use meditate, then let the castle restore HP. He is the only one worth equipping with the Storm Fan, and he has the advantage of extra movement over all other Tacticians.
Pang De – Usually, I just forget the other foot armor guys and wait for Pang De. He has the stats where it counts, and really doesn’t need any fruits to start kicking butt. Pang De also gets the award for most duels won in the red path. All the characters he fights are powerful, but are effortlessly killed through a cinema against Pang De. Like the other 3 foot guys, Pang De fights just as well in water. Oh, he does get killed by Zhou Cang in the red path during a duel, but it’s easily avoidable.
Cao Zhang – Cao Zhang suffers from coming too late to make much of a difference. He does have the power to hold his own, but other stats will require a bit more fruits to beef up.
Guan Yu – You only get Guan Yu in the blue path. While his stats are good, he doesn’t get the amount of chapters needed for the dex fruit to really make a difference. Obviously, his power is more than a match for Dun and Liao. He does get the most duel kills in the blue path, though.
