ParticipantThanks for the info, I’ll use it to show some pics if I need to. Of course I don’t have Chinese prints downloaded yet, so all the text in the game is comprised of various ALT symbols…which makes about as much sense to me.
I just added Chang Ban, so check that one too.

ParticipantIt’s wise to add Chinese font to your computer as you play, you can see number boosts like the pic I showed you. It says things like HP, MP, etc. You can figure out what they restore with that. Also, I’m actually missing an item in that picture. There’s another item that restores MP some more. You don’t get it till late in the game. It’s the same barrel icon with different colors.

ParticipantI just got some fonts but they don’t seem to carry over to the game. Do I need a patch or something? Maybe it’s the site I got the game from.
Besides, it’s really the numbers I look at to help me understand these games. At least those aren’t in Chinese too…

ParticipantYou don’t need a patch, download a tool called NJwin and turn it on. It’ll covert the gibberish into Chinese. Besides, if you need help, you can take a screen shot of it and show it to me. That way, I can see what you’re talking about.
Anyway here are the minor little details I spotted so far.
Dong Zhou Pursuit – This is a bonus chapter, you don’t have to play this chapter if you agree with Yuan Shao in the chat before. Also, you can win this chapter without having to run away. You have to kill Li Ru. When Lu Bu attacks you, he’s in the upper section of the map. Split your team into 2 groups. Bait him and surround him with 4 units to keep him from moving. Heal with lots of beans. And the people who surround him shouldn’t attack him. The other group should go for the lower group of enemies. If you have the chance, charge through and ignore them and go for Li Ru. If you kill him, you win and get the Grey Horse special item.
Yellow Scarfs Again (Ching Zhou battle) – If you listen to Xun Yu or was it Xun You–I forget–you get the Black Taoist Robe. If you listen to Dian Wei, you get the Flying Dragon Robe.
Battle of YanZhou 1 – You don’t get the option to escape if no one dies. You only get the escape option when 2 units are defeated in battle. If you manage to win this battle, you get Li Guan’s Bow and you won’t have to fight it a second or third time.
Battle of YanZhou 2 – If you manage to win this battle, you get a Chain Mail Amor and will not get Yan Zhou battle a 3rd time.
Battle of YanZhou 3 – There’s an easy way to this battle the you missed. When Lu Bu and Chen Gong mobilize their troops to fight, let them ALL come out of the castle. Once they all come out, the merchant who tricked you last time will close the gates causing mass confusion to all of Lu Bu’s troops giving you an easy battle. You get Lu Bu’s bow if you forgive the merchant when you win, otherwise, you just get some money. Also, Xu Chu, Dian Wei, and Xiahou Dun all get a little extra chat with Lu Bu.
Emperor Rescue – Depending on how you answer the emperor, Cao Cao can get either a Sage’s Sword or a Golden Armor at the end of the battle.
Battle of Wan 2 – If you finish off all the enemies in Wan before the reinforcements from Liu Biao can step foot into the castle, you win the battle.
Rescue at Xuzhou – If you pick save Liu Bei, make sure he stays alive and move Cao Cao near Liu Bei. He’ll reward you with the first class change item.
Seige of Xia Pi – Xiahou Yuan can also kill Song Xian in a duel. This is not a real secret but… Cao Cao… also… has a duel with Diao Chan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Guan Du – There’s an alternate way of recruiting Zhang He. Have him duel Xu Chu. Also, if Cao Cao is next to Gao Lan when you attack Wu Chao, Gan Lan will get killed by Cao Cao.
Cao Cao’s Pursuit – DON’T move any of your units until Xu Chu returns to Cao Cao. This’ll cause you to successfully ambush Yuan Shao confusing all or most of his troops. Xu Chu can get injured and cause Cao Cao to become nervous, but just ignore it and continue. But make sure Xu Chu isn’t defeated or the ambush won’t work. Make sure you kill Yuan Shao to get his Wind God’s Shield!
Ru Nan – Picking the first choice is the number 1 option. Sending more troops against the defenseless supply line is pointless. Xiahou Yuan will kill their only defense without breaking a sweat. Zhang He will also duel and kill the other guy.
Yuan Tan and Yuan Xi – It’s possible to stop Feng Ji, but you need to have beaten the game at least twice and choose to get all the special items. Have a mounted archer equip Di Lu and then have a healer increase his movement and charge after Feng Ji. This’ll stop the reinforcements from appearing. Again, this is only possible when you play the game a third time (and provided you got all the treasures).
Yuan Shang – This battle allows you to pick which place you want to attack first. You can also kill Shen Pi youself and get his Fire Fan. All you have to do is keep Xin Pi alive and also one or 2 enemies in the first section of the castle alive. if you killed all the enemies, Shen Pi will kill himself anyway. Keep one enemy alive and let Xin Pi walk up to the gate of the inner section. Another soldier will betray Shen Pi and open the gate for you. You can go in and kill Shen Pi for his fan.
Bo Wang Slope – You can win this battle by beating the crap out of Kongming and also get his rove as a reward.
Chang Ban – First of all, you can defeat Zhao Yun. It actually possible to beat him before Cao Cao even arrives, yet his face still appears in the conversation. Spare him for the Sword of Light, if not, you get his Silver Armor. I go for the sword since you get plenty of the Silver Armor. BTW, the guy he killed is Xiahou En. Also, if you ambush Liu Bei, kill everyone and keep him alive. I forget where he escapes from, but if you let him move a little closer to the river, you’ll trigger Guan Yu and Kong Ming’s reinforcements to appear. Kill them before killing Liu Bei and you get another class change item for free. You should be able to buy them from the shop by now, though.

ParticipantBig thanks for pointing those out. The guide has been edited as needed.
Also thanks for the NJwin info, the font in the game has changed.
Looking forward to more help in the future. Also, where do the two storylines split? I want to have it marked.

ParticipantOk, I made a tiny change to the character info. I forgot what Yu Jin’s stats looked like and thought he was good. Turns out he sucks.
Also, I forgot one more item. It’s a peach (you first get them in Guan Du). They restore Hp fully.
I’ll update with all the spells later today.

ParticipantThanks again.
Lord, I don’t suppose you could sticky this topic?

ParticipantOk, time to cover all the tactics in the game.
Important Note
Most tactics get the benefit of 100% accuracy if the target is confused (regular attacks too actually), but there are a few exceptional tactics that don’t follow this rule. Those tactics are mainly tactics that can preform 1 hit kills. Their accuracy is around 30 as I recall. Or was it 50. You can see for yourself when you fight. Put the cursor on your enemy and you’ll see the damage and accuracy rate under the enemy’s HP if you select them with an attack.
Here’s the list of all the tactics a regular tactican can use.

1. Regular fire attack.
2. More powerful but less accurate fire attack.
3. A fire formation that can attack 5 enemies with a regular fire attack.
4. Fire dragon is a shorter range fire formation using the more powerful fire attacks.
5. This fire attack can attack and entire row of enemies. As long as one enemy is in range, it’ll cause a chain of fire that’ll burn all enemy behind as well. Most powerful, but also least accurate.
6. Regular water attack
7. More powerful but less accurate water attack.
8. A water formation that can attack 5 enemies with a regular water attack
9. Water dragon is a shorter range fire formation using the more powerful water attack.
10. A one hit kill water attack. Confusion doesn’t improve accuracy.
11. Regular wind attack
12. Regular rock attack
13. More powerful but less accurate rock attack.
14. A rock formation that can attack 5 enemies with a regular rock attack
15. Rock dragon is a shorter range fire formation using the more powerful rock attacks.
16. The most powerful and accurate rock attack that hits one enemy.
17. Recovers a small amount of HP.
18. Boosts YOUR OWN tactical power for a random amount of time. Only works on yourself.
19. Drains your own HP to recover MP.
20. The ultimate super fire attack. It requires the Phoenix Jade and a sunny day to use this move.
August 12, 2006 at 4:34 pm #20727Taishi Ci
ParticipantAren’t there additional wind tactics? And how about the healing/status tactics?
August 12, 2006 at 4:55 pm #20728Terranigma Freak
ParticipantOk, these are the tactics used by a magician like class. Mainly Guo Jia and Jia Xue. They focus on messing up the enemies and other annoying effects. Most of these moves have effects that wears off after awhile. The time is lasts is pure luck.
IMPORTANT NOTE #1 Despite Dian Wei and Xu Chu’s low intel, it makes no difference when they use stats down tactics on enemies! They lowers the same amount as Guo Jia or Jia Xue, which makes Dian Wei and Xu Chu that much more lethal!
IMPORTANT NOTE #2 Whereas this magician type class can lower stats, the healer class can increase them. You can tell what’s been increase or decreased simple by looking at the colors of the icon and the spell graphics when they attack. Red is for strength. Yellow is for reflex. Blue is for defense. Purple is for morale.
A stat increase animation looks like the character are going Super Saiyan. When it wears off, a circle of stars swirl above your head. If you get hit by a stats down tactic, you’ll see a color ball surround you then see the swirling stars.

1. HP drain move that sucks enemy’s HP and restores your own.
2. A one hit kill attack. Confusion does not improve accuracy.
3. A move that lowers 5 enemies’ reflex at once. There’s no move that can lower one at a time.
4. A shoter range reflex lowering move that targets a 3×3 square of enemies.
5. A move that lowers 5 enemies’ morale at once. There’s no move that can lower one at a time.
6. A shoter range morale lowering move that targets a 3×3 square of enemies.
7. A move that lowers one enemy’s defense.
8. A move that lowers 5 enemies’ defense at once.
9. A move that lowers one enemy’s power.
10. A move that lowers 5 enemies’ power at once.
11. Confuses one enemy.
12. Confuses 5 enemy at once.
13. Can damage and poison a single enemy. It can also do damage but not poison, or vice versa. Or it can completely miss and not do anything.
14. Same as above except it targets 5 enemys and has lower accuracy.
15. Can damage and paralyze a single enemy. It can also do damage but not paralyze, or vice versa. Or it can completely miss and not do anything.
16. Same as above except it targets 5 enemys and has lower accuracy.
17. This move can silence all tactic users to prevent them from using any tactics.
18. Causes a hexagram that hits a 3×3 square with 100% accuracy doing damage or random affects. The catch is that this move can boost or hinder your enemies. Use with caution.
19. Recovers a small amount of HP.
20. Recovers a large amount of HP.
21. Same move as the Hexagram except now it targets every single unit including your own. It’s a double edge sword and requires the *ahem* Turd Jade that I mentioned before. There’s also another condition required to activate it, but I never figured it out. Honestly, you’re just better off not using it.
August 12, 2006 at 5:18 pm #20729Terranigma Freak
ParticipantAren’t there additional wind tactics? And how about the healing/status tactics?
Nope, they only have 1 Wind Tactic. Wind based tactics are a specialty for Lords (Cao Cao, Sun Quan type) units and Sima Yi. There’s one healing tactic for tacticans which is in there. It’s the one with the heart icon. As for status, that’s for another class which we’ll get to in a minute.

This is Sima Yi’s tactics. They are very similar to the regular tacticans except for a few things. First of all, he has no water based tactics at all. Sima Yi does not have multi-targeting rock tactics either. He does have some wicked Wind Spells not available to other classes.
I don’t need to get too in depth about these spells here, but I will cover the new ones. The Wind tactics that target multiple people hit a 3×3 square instead of the center, up, down, left, and right like all other tactics. The final Wind Tactic (one that requires 24 MP) does damage to EVERY ENEMY unit provided they’re not standing in places that wind tactics can’t hit.
Sima Yi also has the paralyze tactic. It’s right above the heart icon (his regular healing tactic), and below the heart icon are 3 brand new tactics you haven’t seen before.
Looking at the icons, you can probably guess what they do. The first one causes the weather to become stormy, perfect for setting up Sima Yi’s ultimate thunder spell. The next one is a sunny day, perfect for setting up the ultimate fire spell. The last one is cloudy, I have no clue what’s the point, but it MIGHT be the condition required to use the… Turd Jade tactic. Sima Yi can also boost his own tactic points and drain his own HP to restore MP.
The final tactic is the thunder tactic. It is unpredictable in that it targets one enemy, but could actually move around and attack other enemies as well. The amount of time it hits, or how many it can hit is all random. Now I’ve never seen it happen, but it MIGHT actually end up hitting your own people. I’ve never seen it happen, but if you used the thunder tactic in ROTK 4 or others with this tactic, you know it can hit yourself. But this isn’t a traditional ROTK game, so I could be just being paranoid.

ParticipantAnd finally we have the healers. These guys cannot attack in any way… Well actually, they can attack with regular attacks, but they barely do any damage. The healers are Xun You and Man Chong. Healers are very important since they can heal and support your characters in many ways. You can’t beat this game without healing, that’s for sure.

1. Regular healing move that restores a little HP.
2. A shoter range but much more power healing.
3. A regular healing tactic that targets 5 people.
4. A shoter range but much more powerful healing tactic that targets a 3×3 square!
5. This final healing move can restore a large amount of HP to 1 unit ANYWHERE on the map.
6. Gives MP to another unit. I’m guessing it gives as much MP as it uses.
8. A move powerful version of the above tactic.
9. This tactic restores the status of one unit.
10. Same as above, but can target a 3×3 sqaure now.
11. This move will boost movement by 2 points for a random amount of turns.
12. Boost reflex for 5 units for a random amount of turns.
13. Same as above, except it now targets a 3×3 square.
14. Boost morale for 5 units for a random amount of turns.
15. Same as above, except it now targets a 3×3 square.
16. Boost strength for a single unit.
17. Same as above, but now targets 5 units.
18. Boost defense for a single unit.
19. Same as above, but now targets 5 units.
20. This tactic allows you to make a unit that’s already move get an extra turn.
21. The ultimate healing move that heals all your guys fully remove all status problems as well. It only requires the White Tiger Jade to use this tactic.

ParticipantGreat job on the spells lists. If the Lord puts the guide up on the main page we’ll put all this info in seperate pages, maybe with some more pictures for demonstration.
The guide’s been updated through Tong Gate, if you want to critique those battles.
