How do you breeze through these mods so fast? I was surprised you got through the Rise of Lu Bu Mod in like a day when everyone else took a week or so. Although I wont forget this one…
Quote:When I gave Lu Bu gemsword and gaining his service, I immediately wanted to get rid of him 'cause insolent words he said to me.Made me laugh quite a bit
November 22, 2011 at 5:41 pm #41243MiDKnighTModeratorJust looked at the tactic list. Kudos on the idea of "Blades" and "Cyclone". Never thought of adding a non-elemental damage class. :thumleft:
Also good idea having "First Aid" as the 2nd tactic learned. In the original DoaE it seems like it waits too long for a heal tactic.
November 22, 2011 at 9:33 pm #41244sonic.penguinModeratorCons :(
Bandanna has only 2 n's in it :)
Tactic users seem pretty overpowered in the early game.
I went all the way to Nan Yang on Kimono's and bandannas* <– looks like bananna lol
Same ol' dialogue except for level ups and killing people
Hua Xiong w/ 700hp+ makes him a beast through Nan Yang, forget Zhang Fei and his low hits/ measly 300 troops…
I seem to be doing ALL-OUT battle quite frequently on bosses…
Pros :)
I liked how I found different weapons in the usual spots
Different colors, ooh pretty!
Preventing some officers from using tactics was interesting, although it makes stupid officers near worthless vs. tactic users doing 200+ dmg * 5 versus their maybe* 2 hits

Quote:Made me laugh quite a bitHehe that Lu Bu is rude you know. Just thank me that I didn't have someone behead him
DoaE gave birth to Huo Hu.
November 28, 2011 at 6:40 am #41246ludmeisterParticipantHey Sonic,
Just got back from Thanksgiving with my folks and finally released another project that I've been working real hard on…
Much of my effort on the Remix is based on this question: How can I make Destiny of an Emperor more accessible and fun to someone who's never played the original game before (or someone who played the original years ago and wants to get back into it)?
-> I didn't want to ramp the difficulty up too much.
–> I didn't want to meaningfully change the story, but I did want to make battles more interesting.
–> I did want boss battles to provide a good (not ridiculous) challenge.
–> I wanted to provide as many interesting possibilities to advance in the game as possible, to make the game as fun as possible to replay.
If I managed these things, I feel like I succeeded in my work.
I love the idea of using Hua Xiong, I never seem to be able to recruit him in time (I don't like his low Int). I do like using Xu Rong, though… he's quite a bit of fun and he gains soldiers pretty quickly in the early game.
Lei Bo is a beast too, if you can get him early enough.
Sorry about the "Bandanna" oversight… it will be fixed in the next revision. :cactuar:

November 28, 2011 at 3:35 pm #41247MiDKnighTModeratorI actually started playing this once I re-released my mod. I just finished chapter 4. This is a really fun mod. My favorite things are:
– The weapon/armor/helmet "remix".
– The tactic "remix".
– The agility based attacks, 8 tactics, etc… are great of course… :-)
– The treasure chest "remix".
– Some of the new characters with soldier growths. Guan Suo is a *manimal* Yuan Shao is pretty good too. My current party is:
Yuan Shao
Guan Yu
Zhang Fei
Zhao Yun
Guan Suo
* Xu Shu
Huo Hu (just carrying stuff)
All of these "remixes" offer some uniqueness to the game play that we haven't seen much so far. :thumright:
This mod definitely favors good tactic users (so far) in my opinion (although Lu Bu or Zhang Fei with a good weapon is pretty good). But that's not a bad thing, just different. To illustrate this point I didn't even use guys like Zhou Cang. I preferred sticking with someone who could use tactics (like Guan Ping). I'm also finding myself spamming my best attack tactic (Blades right now) with everybody except Zhang Fei.
On a side note, kinda weird fighting Yuan Shang with Yuan Shao in my party. Daddy is laying down some beatdown on his son :)
Hopefully at some point you are inspired to do a mod with a new cast of characters (besides Liu Bei and the gang). I think we're due for a good Wu mod no?

I think we're due for a good Wu mod no?A Wu mod might be right up my alley. My favorite area in the stock game was always Wu, and part of my impetus for doing the Remix was being able to use Zhou Yu in the endgame.
If you'd believe it, I once beat Sima Yi on the console using this army:
Taishi Ci
Lu Xun
Zhang Liao
Zhou Yu
Gan Ning
Zhuge Liang was tactician.
It was ugly, lemmetellya. Ce Mian + Power pills helped a lot, but luck helped just as much.

November 28, 2011 at 3:51 pm #41249MiDKnighTModeratorI did something like that in an alternate officers challenge that we had on the boards a few years ago. We would do these kind of DoaE challenges before we got into modding. I like modding more :-)
Here was the thread:
November 29, 2011 at 1:00 am #41250MiDKnighTModeratorI'm most of the way through Wu now.
Jing Zhou: Guan Yu and Zhang Fei become very obsolete in by Shu (even before) as there are better options available but I'm stuck with them :) I wanted to use Wei Yan but he would have been in a Zhang Fei role and I already had one of those. I never used Huang Zhong or Wei Yan at all. Ma Su's soldier count made him a pretty nice addition.
Shu: There were some hard fights earlier in Shu but Cheng Du was a cakewalk. Zhang Ren was a nice meat shield for me going through Shu and most of Wu. His "smother" was also helpful against Inferno and Cremate.
Wu: Walking around Wu was dangerous. If you bump into the wrong guy they one hit kill you before you can retreat. Lots of resurrect shopping as a result. Life and raise would decrease some resurrect shopping… (I never used escape or return once). I thought Lu Su was going to be an upgrade over Pang Tong because of soldier count but then I realized that Pang Tong learned Zeal and Lu Su didn't. I'm right before going for Sun Quan and my party right now is:
Ma Su
Zhao Yun
Zhang Ren
Ma Chao
Pang Tong
*Zhuge Liang
Ma Liang (holding stuff and doesn't use much food with low soldier count)
I recruited Zhou Yu but his low soldier count and no Zeal made Pang Tong a better option right now.
The tactics and weapon/armor stuff is great. Love what you've done with all that. I was concerned that Evade + Thwart would be too powerful but I guess we'll see… I haven't learned Thwart yet… Evade + Defense was a nice combo for some of the later Wu fights. It helped prevent some of the one-hit kills.
November 29, 2011 at 4:47 am #41251MiDKnighTModeratorI'm towards the end of Wei now and am mainly using Wu guys in my lineup because of their higher soldier counts:
Taishi Ci
Lu Xun
Zhao Yun
Gan Ning
Zhang Zhao
*Zhuge Liang
Ma Liang (holding stuff and doesn't use much food with low soldier count)
Leveling up in Wei is slow at best. I'm almost at the end game and am at level 36. I don't feel like grinding 14 more levels so I'll probably just try to win at an early level with my Wu guys.
EDIT: Beat the game at level 37 with the party I posted above. The combination of powerful tactics certainly helped overcome Sima Yi easier. First round Lu Xun uses defense, Zhang Zhao uses Zeal, and Zhao Yun beheads Xu Chu then Taishi Ci and Gan Ning hit Cheng Yu. Next round Zhao Yun beheads Yu Jin… After 3 rounds only Sima Yi is left standing and I still have about 80 TP left to make sure he's thwarted when his HP is low and he's done. Overall well done sir. Enjoyed it. Here's to your future Wu mod…
November 30, 2011 at 2:01 am #41252ludmeisterParticipantI'm kicking around some other (very) small gameplay edits for future versions of the mod, and in after hearing the feedback, here they are:
* Have Guan Yu and Zhang Fei not become obsolete (at least, not until the Shu campaign). I'm thinking that Zhang Fei needs more Speed and Soldiers, and Guan Yu needs more soldiers as well (though not as many as Zhang Fei).
* Make Huang Zhong generally more useful… it has bugged me to no end that he's not useful by the time Jing Zhou rolls around.
* Tone down the early tactics (especially Flame, Blaze, and Blades) in an effort to make warriors a bit more useful.
* Go through all the officers in the game, and make more generals a bit more average (like MiDKnighT's Yuan Shao mod does well)
* Make the early armor and helmets a bit less expensive. I wanted to make money management a bit more necessary, and I think I went overboard on that in the early going… if I wanted to make the early learning curve fairly lenient, I think that I made money too scarce early on.
* Have Zhou Yu have more soldiers in the middle game.
* Make experience a bit more plentiful in Wei.
What do you all think? How would you improve it?
Oh, and MiDKnighT… I really liked the sprites that you used in your mod… do you mind if I use the sprites you used (and maybe a few of your portraits?) :-)

November 30, 2011 at 2:53 am #41253sonic.penguinModeratorQuote:I think that I made money too scarce early on.Yeah, I actuallly upped this in the mod im working on atm. You can 'artificially' up gold slightly by giving higher HP guys, but that would also change exp gains. I allow "early access" to the Dong Zhuo area in the Rise of Lu Bu mod where players can test their mettle and gain faster exp/gold if they can survive there, all before defeating the Yellow Turbans.

One other recommendation I would have is to crank up the experience a bit in Wei. Too hard to grind to level 50. I did some grinding and still finished the game at level 37.
November 30, 2011 at 9:31 pm #41255MiDKnighTModeratorHey lud if you're reading this…question for ya. How did you get the STR/INT/AGI bars to extend to the end of the tactic box? I figured I'd ask you and save the hassle of trying to dig it out :)
