And that 4C includes 40 damage tactics and 15 heal tactics that are already available. 8O

ParticipantIs Sonic's Musou one of those 40 damage tactics, or might that be one of the other 179? If I'm right, I think that Sonic replaced "Fu Bing" with this one…
When all else fails... manipulate the source code.

ModeratorThe expanded tactics was just released today so Musou was one of the original 30 tactics (10 damage tactics + Fu Bing). I think it's a multi-hit Fu Bing if I remember correctly.
What I had in mind for the extra 30 damage tactics… You could have some fire tactics, water tactics, thunder tactics, wind tactics. But you could also have arrows, crossbows, catapults, boulders, hot oil, etc… Or if it 's a POL based tactic perhaps revolt or riot or disease. Lots and lots of possibilities. And by being able to assign attributes, a name, etc… to each tactic you can customize them and control who learns them.
Once we get this stuff going we could make every officer that you recruit have a unique skill set. It might make party lineup decisions VERY hard and might make you think about which party is right for each enemy.

ModeratorThere's another bug where tactics aren't learned on level up. Will fix soon.

ModeratorUnless FOW can be fixed w/ Niahaks help, it is likely I wont be updating it with the new stuff. If I do use it, it will have to be in a new mod if I decide to make another (4th) one in the next year >_>

ModeratorI need to remind myself not to create bugs that are very hard to track down. Fix for level up thing is:
0x3B8EB: "98"–>"8A"

ModeratorIs only 1 menu supposed to stay open after passing an item? This is different in MiDKnighT's version which keeps the officer side menu open.

ModeratorI assume you're talking about Lud's mod?

ModeratorQuote:Phase 9 – Leveling Profiles– In addition to the existing "enemy profiles", we'd have "leveling profiles". For example leveling profile 1 might learn Lian Huo at level 2 but leveling profile 2 would never learn Lian Huo and learn something else at level 2. This idea would REALLY make the number of unique officers increase substantially. Perhaps some tactics are only available to one leveling profile.
Now to explain how awesome this would be… Let's say we only want 10 officers in the game to learn "Arrows". Let's also say we give this tactic ID 2. There are 2 leveling profiles that have variations of this tactic. The first one learns "Arrows" at level 4. This would be assigned to "Bowmen" or something like that. The second one is tactic ID 82 and called "Barrage". Say this one is assigned to Huang Zhong at level 5.
Between this and the enemy profiles enhancements, you could control what tactics each officers learns, at what levels, and control what they typically do in battle based on the original enemy profile. Cookie cutter officers would be no more. Different officers could have completely different personalities and tactics.
This is turning out to be harder than expected. After some difficulty I've got it working for loading current tactics when a battle starts but level ups aren't working right. Right now the level up is doing this:
Officer A is using list 00 and is going to learn Ye Huo
Officer B is using list 01 and is going to learn Haste
Result on level up…
It says that both officers are learning Ye Huo because that is the "level up" tactic (stored in $4D). The game isn't made to learn more than one tactic upon level up so I need to change that 8)
Actually the easiest way to fix this would be to just change the message to say "New Tactics Learned" then you can see for yourself what they are.

ModeratorThen go through the party's characters one at each time and display them as needed. This only goes on when you level up, so why not reward the player by showing lots of awesome "learned new tactic" messages out?
Guan Yu learned Huo Shen!
Guan Yu learned Arrowstorm!
Zhuge Liang learned Jin Xian!
Zhuge Liang learned An Sha!
Liu Bei learned Huo Shen!
Ma Chao learned Arrowstorm!
Zhang Fei learned Lian Huo!
Zhou Yu learned An Sha!
Something like that.

ModeratorIdeally I'd like to do that but it's pretty complicated :(
I can get it working…eventually.

ModeratorNow, I suck at programming and never took a look at NES programming. Still, I know enough about the basics of programming to know you guys can do it.
June 6, 2013 at 5:40 pm #45168MiDKnighT
ModeratorOh yes, it can be done. It's just requires a big re-write of the tactic level up part of the code since the game is only designed to learn 1 tactic per level. It's not as easy as flipping a couple of bits. It can be done. Just takes a lot of planning, writing, testing…
