Unless there are objections, phase 1 is complete.
May 28, 2013 at 4:30 pm #45125DragonAtmaModeratorWith the new text, the bars look flat and boring. Therefore, I recommend using the bars I incldued in my mockup. Even if you don't like the layout, the bars look better with more colors.

Since lud just did that with letters, etc… maybe he'd want to take that up if he's interested.
May 29, 2013 at 12:30 am #45127MiDKnighTModeratorPhase 2 Complete!
LDR, VIT, and POL are now taking user given values or deriving them if they are not set. The attributes don't do anything new yet but they will. What modders need to know:
To set the LDR for an officer, put the value at 0x7AA## where ## = officer ID
To set the VIT for an officer, put the value at 0x7AB## where ## = officer ID
To set the POL for an officer, put the value at 0x7AC## where ## = officer ID
If you leave it at 0 for an officer, the number will be derived like so:
LDR = Roughly 50% INT + 25% STR + 25% AGI = 100% LDR
VIT = Roughly 50% STR + 25% INT + 25% AGI = 100% VIT
POL = Roughly 75% INT + 25% AGI = 100% POL
For coders:
LDR is stored in $6400-$6406 for allies and $6407-$640B for enemies
VIT is stored in $6410-$6416 for allies and $6417-$641B for enemies
POL is stored in $6420-$6426 for allies and $6427-$642B for enemies
<code changes in 1st post>
Will add to IPS patch 1.3 next.
May 29, 2013 at 2:00 pm #45128MiDKnighTModeratorIPS patch 1.3 updated with new attributes.
– The palette changes are in patch 1 so you'd either need to apply patch 1 and 2 or just apply patch 2 and manually copy in the palette changes.
– Save states will probably be broken when trying to see the status screen (but new games should work fine). To fix simply copy 0x80070-0x800FF (ROM) to 0x7500 (RAM) and re-save.
– The new attributes don't do anything yet but they will…

May 30, 2013 at 1:21 am #45130DragonAtmaModeratorThanks! If there's one artwork I'm good at, it's small pixel-by-pixel pictures XD
May 30, 2013 at 4:24 pm #45131MiDKnighTModeratorSo I'm starting to think about associating each tactic with an attribute (or 2). Right now when we talk about tactic success/fail or whether an officer learns a tactic it goes by INT. But what if we could assign a tactic to an attribute? Should there be up to 2 attributes for each tactic? I don't want to make it too complicated for modders so it's up to you guys whether we can associate tactics with up to 2 attributes (for success/fail and learning). Here are my ideas for default attributes for different tactics:
Heal Tactics = INT? VIT? Both?
Guard & Evade = VIT
Protect & Thwart = INT
Doubt and Mislead = POL (maybe name them Rumors (Doubt) and Persuade (Mislead)
Haste = LDR? AGI? Both?
Negate = INT
An Sha = INT or POL (maybe have his own troops assassinate him)
Bei Ji = LDR (High leadership rallies the troops)
Life/Raise = INT? VIT? Both?
What do you guys think?
May 30, 2013 at 5:07 pm #45132DragonAtmaModeratorIt's probably best to sort by stat so we can see if any stats are getting hosed. There's also the question of whether we should *have* vit or not; remember, these stats are for the guy's entire block of 100-40,000 troops, not for just one officer. Anyway, here are my recommendations:
..LDR:
JiMian/CeMian recovery
Extra All-Out damage
Buff tactics (Fu Bing, etc.)
Post-battle capture
An Sha success
..STR:
Attacking damage
Duel results
..INT:
Fire tactics damage
Water tactics damage
..AGI:
Move order
Retreating success
..CHA:
Doubt
Mislead
DoaE version of Drain
Post-battle recruit
..(none):
Healing
Life/Raise
…as for post-battle capture/recruit, my suggestions is that LDR determines the odds of capturing them in the first place and CHA determines whether they join you, demand a bribe, or refuse.
May 30, 2013 at 5:27 pm #45133MiDKnighTModeratorGood suggestions but what about the question of whether a tactic is tied to more than one attribute? For example should "Haste" be tied to AGI, LDR, or both?
Quote:There's also the question of whether we should *have* vit or notIf not VIT then what else? It's not too late to change it since VIT isn't actually doing anything yet.
May 30, 2013 at 7:21 pm #45134DragonAtmaModeratorRemember, the stats are affecting the entire army, and not whether Xu Chu is secretly The Hulk.
Personally, I think five stats are enough; only one that may be missing is Pol[itics], but that's only useful if we add in a whole strategy sim to doae.
EDIT: As for skills being tied to multiple stats, that should be put off until someone tests this and checks whether any stats seem to be One Stat to Rule Them All or a Dump Stat. Ditto for Healing/Life/Raise, which we can assign to a less-important stat if needed.
May 30, 2013 at 7:27 pm #45135MiDKnighTModeratorQuote:Remember, the stats are affecting the entire army, and not whether Xu Chu is secretly The Hulk.I don't see VIT that way. I see it as overall health of the army. Perhaps we could introduce an offensive tactic later called Virus or Plague that essentially lowers the VIT of the target and causes them to take more damage.
Also what do you think of the names that lud proposed instead of VIT? RES (Resistence) and CON (Constitution).
May 30, 2013 at 7:31 pm #45136DragonAtmaModeratorIf you see Vit as the whole army, then why not TRN (Training)?
VIT, CON, and RES just seem too…. one-person-oriented.
May 30, 2013 at 7:46 pm #45137MiDKnighTModeratorTRN is interesting but it kind of takes away the defensive focus of VIT/RES/CON. Couldn't training fall under leadership?
Pulling out the dictionary:
Vitality – capacity to live and develop; also : physical or mental vigor especially when highly developed
also – power of enduring
Resistance – a : an act or instance of resisting : opposition b : a means of resisting
2: the power or capacity to resist:
Constitution – the physical makeup of the individual especially with respect to the health, strength, and appearance of the body
May 30, 2013 at 7:49 pm #45138DragonAtmaModeratorIt could (which puts us at five stats).
