ParticipantOK uh speed the emulator up and use wallhack to jump straight to the Zhang Song/Zhang Ren battle. I'm playing the newest version; Song has a pair of eyes at the bottom of his portrait.

Participantlol It was sorta creepy first sight. Anyway I beat Sun Ce random encounter thing, he somehow managed to critical hit all of Yan Liang's 1.5k or so troops to death, right after I cast Revive. Ugh I gotta get the Da Re tactic for Shu.

ModeratorQuote:Zhang Yan at first sight was holy shit, but Yi Xin basically left him with no chance at all to strike. Love how you did the Heishan Bandits. Pity Lu Bu left, but Zhang Yan joined with better stats imo, so yeah. This part was fun to do because:
#1 – Yuan Shao did historically fight with the Heishan bandits:
"Yuan Shao then turned southwest to eradicate the Heishan bandits. With the short-term help from Lü Bu, Yuan Shao managed to defeat the bandit leader Zhang Yan and removed the threat to his western flank."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yuan_Shao
#2 – Zhang Yan apparently really was badazz:
"Zhang Yan, né Chu Yan (褚燕), also known as Zhang Feiyan (張飛燕), was the leader of Heishan bandits. He was a native of Zhending, Changshan commandery (modern Baoding).
"He was born Chu Yan. Because he was fast, and agile, and brave, his men called him "Feiyan", meaning "Flying Swallow"."
"In 193, Zhang Yan fought to a stalemate against Lü Bu – who at the time was serving nominally under Yuan Shao and undertook his quest to pacify various regions neighboring the Taihang Mountains."
"In 199, he responded to Gongsun Zan's request for help in the Battle of Yijing. Before he arrived, Gongsun Zan was destroyed by Yuan Shao."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zhang_Yan_%28Three_Kingdoms%29
But in the game he does get there in time…

KeymasterI never used Zhang Yan, though with that soldier count and STR (and manageable INT) he certainly has value at that point. I guess I'm just used to never using Pang Tong who is normally in that spot. Can't really think of a reason why I don't do it, maybe to lower the challenge but I think I like those orange health bars and don't like going over 2000 soldiers until I level up over them :huohu:
Next time I go through I'll give more feedback and try to be more particular about errors in the text I see.
Qiao Zhou (Wei Jun) Castle: Villager in the east line about Yuan Shao goes one space too long.
Luo Yang Castle: Red guy on the east end has the text go one space too long with "fighting Dong Zhuo." Also Gongsun Zan's third line runs too long "Yuan Shao's Army? I"
Got Cai Yong so I'm replacing Chen Lin with him.

And working on translation stuff rather than hacking stuff now… And I'm lazy.
It's even worse, with Persona 3 PSP out now :(

ModeratorFixed the text thingies. Thx for checking.

KeymasterAlso the battle taunt: "To the Battlefield! Destroy Yuan Shao's Army!", the line with Destroy Yuan Shao's is a space too long.
At Yuan Castle, the guy in the northeast says "IfSun Jian and" (there is enough room for a space there without the line going over).
New Sun Jian portrait is a great choice. DoaE II Xu Huang.
Wang at Wu Ling Castle has a line that goes too long by one space: "goes to pet Wang…"
Chang Sha castle, red-clad man in the north: second line "fighting Sun Jian's" is long by a space.
Gui Yang Castle: Guy at the throne's second line is messed up: "friend, please join". There is no room for a space so you'll have to put a space and put join on the third line.
After beating Zhang Yan in the roaming-Jing Zhou battle, there is an extra space on the third line "defeated. Indeed".
End of text notices.
A couple of things on this play through. I did beat Liu Bei with Guo Tu's Scorch.

Also beat Gongsun Zan + Zhang Yan…with a Zhang Yan-led army!

ModeratorWow, you're a great tester. I'll go fix the text.
I knew about the Zhang Yan thing. It can happen if you take Jing Zhou first. Trying to think about what to do about that. I do want him in the Gongsun Zan battle.
It's ok if you beat Liu Bei…you just won't get him :) Or of course I could make it impossible and give him 51k enemy troops :-)

KeymasterHaha that would be evil. It's nice to have a challenge / optional type battle like that. Either you use the gimmick (Treaty) or you go through hell to beat him (with little reward).
As for the Zhang Yan situation, you could give an even greater boost to Sun Jian at Ling Ling to make that near unbeatable but then you're going to require the user to grind a bit (or get real lucky with Mislead / Li Jian). I went through Gongsun Zan's area first, just stopped at Ji Zhou Castle (last battle). Then started and finished Jing Zhou.

ModeratorThat's a good idea re: Sun Jian…don't want to make it too hard/frustrating though…
The Chang Sha battle is already hard enough I think…That could be a key gateway. In any case, the Chang Sha battle needs to be harder than the Gongsun Zan battle.

ModeratorOK I'm gonna ramp up overall Jingzhou difficulty some so that you will be strongly discouraged from going there first :-)

KeymasterNot a bad choice. But if you make Chang Sha and Ling Ling much harder they're going to be more difficult than the Shu region battles :P

ModeratorI think it will be good. I passed out swords and tridents to Sun Jian's guys and gave them a minor soldier boost. In the Gongsun Zan battle you're up against 2 tridents and 3 bows. In Chang Sha you'll now be up against 2 swords, a trident, and two bows.
