ModeratorThose are only moving some cities around, though; gemfire and sengoku you'd have to move the very land itself.
Also my title seems to have changed to a hand-drawn picture of LYS that's still better than any attempt I could make.

You could redesign the entire map if you wanted to.

ModeratorPOLL: Is starting off with 1 staff (flail) and 2 daggers too hard or too much of a pain? My bro complained about the 3 daggers so I gave Yuan Shao a staff and he's still plainin. Here's the latest:

I didn't have a problem starting off with 3 daggers or 1 staff/2 daggers but he is. Did any of you?

ParticipantI made it through alright. Keep in mind that making things smaller (in order to increase difficulty) is rarely as fun as making things bigger (still to increase difficulty).

ModeratorI liked the idea of earning your staffs. :-)

ParticipantOk I didn't play the version where you gave out a staff to YS. My complaint was you took away the starting staffs AND raised the prices for everything across the board. If you try to grind out some gear up front, you run out of food before you get 3 staffs and a robe. So you either fork out more $ for food (100 min) and/or get some rezes (100ea). Bandanas at 100 now? really?

ModeratorYou're probably used to giving everybody flails, robes, and bandanas before the first fight. Can't do that this time.
You're just being a wuss. :P Here's what you do:
– YS starts with staff.
– Use your starting 200 to buy another staff.
– Grind one level to get flame.
– Have Wen Chou and Yan Liang use staffs to pound the first guy while YS and Chen Lin flame away.
– *optionally* grind for another staff
– Beat the second guy and get the ax.
Now you have an ax and 2-3 staffs after only 2 castle/fortress battles so quit ya whining… 8) If you have at least decent DoaE skills you should survive the first 2 battles with that equipment.

ParticipantSorry for such a late notice on this, figured it out when I Gullwinged back to Ye in order to talk to Cui Zhou Ping.
The Gullwings still redirect you to the same spot where they used to last time, so basically the Ye Gullwing puts you in a forest. >_>

ModeratorQuote:The Gullwings still redirect you to the same spot where they used to last time, so basically the Ye Gullwing puts you in a forest. >_>I'll look into that. I took care of the warps but there must be another section for gullwings. I think gullwings put you at the spot just below the castle so I'll look for that.
This is good to know before trying to add the warp stuff to the map tool.
EDIT: The gullwing is taking me to 0C 07 07 12. Looks like that location is stored at 0x38E04. Changed it to one under Xu Zhou's new address and now it works. Since the impact of this is only slightly annoying I'll just keep the change in my local copy then it will be in the next update.

ModeratorAlso Link, how was the Jing Zhou difficulty? I had cranked that up a bit since the first versions.
EDIT: Just tried it last night. Chang Sha was a bit harder than last time (it was already hard). Ling Ling wasn't a walkover anymore. You actually had to fight this time. Wu Ling and Xiang Yang weren't much harder.

ModeratorOnce the map tool is ready, I plan on starting another mod with significant map/storyline changes. Right now I'm considering one of the following…
Liu Biao
Ma Teng
Gongsun Zan
Any that you guys would like to see?
July 22, 2010 at 6:58 pm #37698cabalpapa
ParticipantLiu Biao mod = sit and do nothing while all the rest of China falls apart around him.
Ma Teng mod = isolate yourselves in the mountains making great troops and children, and then die the minute you plan to actually do anything.
Gongsun Zan mod = White Riders, White Riders, White Riders HOOOOOOO!

ParticipantI've actually considered a couple different ones. One that might be interesting is a Sima Yi mod, starting from his coup of Wei and the formation of Jin, and then the campaigns against Wu and the various rebeliions. That would be a very pleasant one to do.

KeymasterGood ideas fellas. Sima Yi mod would be nice, we haven't really done much with the later years besides James' Wei in DoaE 2.0 (though to be fair I've always been more interested in the Yellow Turban era to 220-230 AD or so). Sima Yi's force would obviously be best for a mod like that (or like you say, a Liu Bei – Liu Chan mod :P ).
Liu Biao would be sort of cool too. Mediocre force, you'd have to rely on Cai Mao, Wen Pin, Yi Ji, etc…yikes. Pang Tong could be the Zhu Ge Liang though. Maybe you could even have Liu Zong betray Liu Biao or something and have Liu Biao oust him. Most of his forces are pathetic though; Lu Gong, Cai He, Liu Qi, Deng Yi, etc. Although I must admit I have a soft spot for terrible armies like Yuan Shu's. Also enjoyed the Huo Hu mod with Song Yong, Song Ren, Yang Jin, and those shitheads as the main characters.
On a side note, I'll get to testing this mod again in the near future when I take a break from DQIX or something. Just uploaded the newest version onto the forum (see download link on first page of the thread at the top or on the Roms page).
