Yes. It was quite painful. That should be the last of the grinding until I pick up Zhu Ge Liang.
I’ll take another crack at Hua Xoing tonight. Lu Bu is actually easier because Li Ru’s strength is so patheitc. Then, once I recruit Li Ru it will be clear sailing until Chang Sha. I plan on having a Li Jain fest at Chang Sha with my TP o’ plenty.
…and yes, I will be recruiting Lu Bu. This challenge is already hard enough. I’ll take all the help I can get :).
I screwed myself twice trying to fly through the game getting max TP. I know now what I need to do.
I restarted the 1 officer challenge. I kept Lui Bei in my party until he learned Fu Bing at level 12 before I continued the story. Hua Xiong is giving me fits. I won the battle with Mi Zhi last time, but I don’t remember it being this difficult. This has got to be the toughest battle in the challenge…
This is true. I’ve never kept track of my TP before, but from what I’ve read, it should be possible to get max TP with one officer. I did level up excessively in hopes of getting Zhang Fei to defeat Hua Xoing and Lu Bu, but I ended up using tacticians to beat them both. Knowing this, I could stop leveling up when I quit gaining TP.
Just an experiment… I am going to fly through with 5 officers and get max TP and try to defeat Sima Yi with Zhu Ge Liang. If it works, I’ll know what I have to do to in my next attempt.
Confirmed. Cao Ren can’t be a tactician. I had no luck finding a Li Jian tactician with a decent amount of soldiers.
I’ve beaten all 3 Sima Yi battle using Jian Wei using "in battle" saves, but it could literally takes thousands of tries for the sequence to occur naturally.
I think that a max TP Zhu Ge Liang is the only non-miracle solution. Come out with a Bei Ji (8TP) followed by 4 Huo Shens (48TP). This should knock the Xu Zhi and Dian Wei below 10k soldiers. Mix in 9 Jin Xians as needed (36TP) and save 4 Ce Mians (68TP) and 5 power pills to finish off Sima Yi.
You may have to trade off a Ce Mian for 4 more Jin Xians depending on how often Sima Yi hits or misses with Hou Shen.
Unfortunately I didn’t plan ahead and only have 112TP. Does anyone have a maxTP game saved where Sima Yi has not been beaten yet? If so, I’d love to borrow it so i can try. If not, I guess I’ll start from scratch…
Yes. Assuming that getting a decent Li Jain tactician is feasible (I haven’t tried yet), the theory is that I would Li Jain Xu Zhu and Dan Wei to help me chop down Sima Yi at a quicker rate to prevent Wan Fu. It would be nice if Sima Yi would bei ji one or both of these guys for me. They hit for about 1200 damage normally. Once Sima Yi is dead, continue using Li Jain for the victory.
There are 2 rebel forces in the battle as well. I’m not sure if this is typical, or caused by me only having one general.
This would not be effective in the next Sima Yi battle, but I will have the halberd by then. Maybe that will give me more options.
I’m convinced that Jian Wei alone can’t win, so, out of desperation, I’m looking for other options before I throw in the towell.
Only one officer. 2 officers was already done by Mr. lordyuanshu. I belive he used Zhu Ge Liang and Jian Wei, my first choice would have been Zhu Ge Liang and Zhao Yun followed by the combo that he used.
Beating Sima Yi with Jian Wei goes beyond luck and into the miracle category. Too many Ji Mains and Yi Xins to consistently attack him. A bei jied Zhu Ge Liang hits in the 1200s. Jian Wei hits in the 900s.

No such luck… I can do it with in-battle saves, but not naturally.
Earlier in the game I got stuck at Ji Zhou castle. My opponents were Yuan Shao, Yuan Shu, Zhang He, Ju Shou and Lu Bu. Xu Zhe is your best tactician at that point in the game, but he simply could not absorb the attacks. It took everything that I had just to kill Lu Bu. After many losses, I finally recruited a general named Xu Shou. The strategy was simple, and quite comical. I would cast Li Jian on Lu Bu every turn and then defend / heal. In the first round, Lu Bu scored a critical hit on Yuan Shu and killed him in one attack. He quickly butchered my other 3 opponents, then finally killed himself. It was so easy, it was a joke.
That being said, in the first battle with SimaYi, he has four high strength allies fighting on his side. Is it possible, at that point in the game to recruit a general that has Li Jian? He would need at least 15k soldiers to be able to be effective in the battle
I tried that for about an hour, then gave up. I couldn’t seem to widdle him down fast enough to stop Wan Fu. Jian Wei is only hitting for about 900 damage. Once Si Ma Yi get under 15k soldiers the bastard gets me with a Ji Main or Yi Xin then heals.
I’ve tried yelling profanities at my monitor and that doesn’t seem to be helping much either.
I’ll give it another try…
Well, Lu Sun could not get the job done. I think that Zhu Ge Liang has the best chance, but I believe he will need all 160 tactical points. I am going to have to start over and make sure I reach my max TP this time. Grrr…
I’ve run into a brick wall by the name of Si Ma Shithead. I can’t take him out with a level 51 Zu Ge Liang or Jian Wei. If Zu Ge Liang had Wan Fu I know I could to it. Elixer Ds don’t heal me enough to help much. I think that Lu Sun has both Ce Mian and Wan Fu but his soldier count is pretty low. I guess I’ll it with try him next, but I have my doubts…
I kinda screwed myself early in the game by building up too much with crappy tacticians to beat Hua Xiong. My max TP is only 112.
The challenge gets pretty fun after the Nan Yang battle… Probably the most I’ve enjoyed playing DOAE in quite a while. I’m interested to see how your route compares with mine. I just beat Yan Yan at Fu Shui with Pang Tong. It was the first relatively tough battle I’ve had since Chang Sha.

Well, The good news is that Li Ru can learn Da Re and Ji Main if you need it.
Just build up to level 22 and hope that you go first in the batlle or Lu Bu whiffs on his first attack. :)
