ParticipantHua Xiong stomped me at level 9. I tried with with Zhang Fei and Mi Zhe. It’s hard to build up when you’re only getting 7 exp point for each field batlle.
Just built up to level 10, only 500 more points until level 11. Grrr….

ParticipantI also started the 1 general challenge. None of the yellow scarf battles were abnornal for me. The brigand was in the gave too… I had to grind up to get Ye Hou before I could beat Zhang Jao. I have not tried Hua Xong yet…

ParticipantWow. Nice work. How the hell did you do that so fast? That was at least 15 hours worth of playing…
According to my time logger, it took me about 20 hours to get to Cao Pi in this challenge, but I spent some significant time leveling up.
Ok. I just tried out the fast forward forward function on my virtual NES for the first time. Grr… Wish I would have known this sooner.
Hmmm…
How fast do you think one could beat the game from start to finish using all 5 generals? Using smoke pots and minimal leveling up, I bet it could be done in one sitting. Probably less that 10 hours with the assistance of a couple of pots of coffee and a catheter.
Sniff. Sniff. Do I smell another challenge?

ParticipantI actually beat the first 3 battles of the game with Song Yong, Song Ren and Mi Zhe in my alternate general challenge. At the time I didn

ParticipantI used Li Ru with Zhang Fei for that battle. Li Ru is the best tactician available until Xu Zhe. I did have to do some leveling up first. When I did the 3 generals challenge, I had 3 in my party the whole game, and it took forever. To keep things moving more quickly, I am ressurecting and fighting random battles with 5 members. I had to level up a bit before facing Ma Choa as well.
I’ve made it into the land of Wei with 2 members. I believe I just defeated Zhu Ge Jin at Wu castle. I’m at level 32. I just retired Mr. Pang Tong. Zhoa Yun is getting ready to replace Guan Xing as soon as his soldier count gets a bit higher.
I’m not sure how much further my 2 party team can make it. I’ll have a better idea after I snag the Qing Long? out of the next cave. Things are definitely getting interesting.

ParticipantThanks for the link. Kongming has some pretty interesting and thorough documentation posted there. I wish I would have known about it sooner.
I made it past Yuan Shao with 2 generals. We’ll see if Xu Zhe can continue to carry the load until I pick up Mr. Pang Tong.

ParticipantThe tactician gap between Leiu Bei and Zhu Zhi (Dan Fu) really sucks. I normally try to recruit Li Ru for this period. He has a high soldier count and intelligence, but strength is THE lowest in the game. His attacks bring a whopping 2 damage no matter what weapon he uses. With some premature leveling up, one could probably get to the Pang Tong part of the story, with him it’s definitely doable for a while. I think the double Ti Ci Si / Sun Quan batlle is where it would come to a screeching halt with only 2 generals. You have 2 big trees to chop down with tactical points at a premium, crappy weapons and only one heavy hitter. If by a miracle, you could get past this batlle, I’d be willing to bet that the halberd could be used to wipe out the Si Ma’s.

Participantehh…
4 generals in every battle was suprisingly easy. 3 generals in every battle was also, with the exception of the Tai Si Ci / Sun Quan battle. Getting Li Jian or even Yi Xin cast on one of your generals is a real bitch with only 3. For this reason I dumped Guan Xing for Jian Wei.

ParticipantI just completed an Alternate general challenge. All generals that gain levels were immediately disarmed and intentionally killed in random battles and only alternate generals were used to fight and act as tacticians though the entire game. Yes, I even dominated with Song Yong, Song Ren, and Mi Zhi for the first 4 major battles of the game.
Also,
No Pang Tong
No Power Pills
No An Sha
No field saves
I was wondering if anyone has tried using only 4 generals in every battle?

Participant[hmm…… what is the level when you complete the game then,Taishi Ci?
i manage to complete it at level 42 (i guess its too high ~"~),with
Zhuge liang(Strategist)
Jiang Wei (int 255,equip with treastise)
Zhao Yun
Ma Chao (weapon damage is 255,equip with gauntlet)
Guan Suo
formation used are FENG JIAN
i use jiangwei and zhugeliang to burn the wei alive, wahaha……its fun ^^
and i manage to burn simayi too until his die, yipee……^^
ok that all i say until now….
Anyone complete at lower level?]
I completed at level 41. I did use the duplicate item and the Zheng letter trick. I did not use the 64 item trick to recruit Cao Cao or Sima Yi. The best warrior that I "cheated" to get was Lu Bu. He was a great help along the way. He had the most soldiers in my group with 3800, followed by Ma Choa and Jain Wei in the final battle.
Final Formation:
Lu Bu
Lu Bu
Lu Bu
Ma Chao
Jain Wei
TOTAL EXP = 619073
I fought only 2 random battles for a total of 170 exp. I never learned or needed Ce Main.
Toughest battle by far was Cao Cao at Luo castle. With the formation that I used, focussing on Xun Yu alone was a must.
In the last 4 battles I was an sha’d only twice. Once by Zhang Lao and once by Sima Yi.
Thanks to Yuan Shu and Kong Ming for walkthroughs and all who contributed to the MB. I really enjoyed the game.

ParticipantDoes anyone know of some good DOAE2 maps?

ParticipantIndeed you are right, maybe the problem was that I was dropping a potion instead of bandana. I did not realize at the time that you can have 9 potions only take up one space in you inventory. This is different than what I was used to from DOAE1, definitely a welcome change.
Speaking of things being different, how do you place officers in the reserves. Up until now I have not been concerned with this, but now I am ready to dump some outdated generals and try out the Zheng letter trick.

ParticipantTurns out that the problem was that i went to the cave and got the map before being told to do so. Apparently this screws everything up and the Zheng letter trick will not work.
I hope to keep all extremeties in tact despite this mindless blunder.
