ModeratorYou could have Zhuge Liang kill Liu Shan for his utter incompetence.
That would make a funny battle. Liu Shan, Huang Hao, and his cronies with ~500 soldiers each, then Zhuge Liang realizes how stupid he’s doing and just takes over. Then the real fight begins :)
I tried to go with a more-or-less timeline true one when I was planning. The Xiahous didn’t join up until the Dong Zhou coalition, so you could replace Guan Ping with one… not sure where the other would come from though.
And don’t forget the Yu/e Jins and Li Dian :)
Cao Cao got too many good officers early on. You might have to make this one really tough early to make up for that.

ModeratorNot sure what the princess’ name was. It was a Japanese pronunciation of a Chinese character, that always screws things up.
Bet it was, though. The manga was adapted into an anime (the one that was fan-translated fairly recently).
I checked google images; no luck. For a vague description… it seems out-of-place but in this manga Cao Cao had curly hair (younger version only). He has this cool cape clasped together chain, with armor underneath. Younger Cao wears a circlet for some reason. Older Cao has more armor and a trimmed beard (similar to LOCC).
I prefer the Scholar Bunko version more in general, since it follows a bit more closely with history / original story. Plus, the second portion of the series, which covers Chi Bi, is a larger size book with pretty nice artwork in general.

ModeratorDoaE takes a lot of its inspiration from Yokoyama Mitsuteru’s classic Sangokushi manga. I have no idea whether the Sun Quan assassinating his brother was in there, but it could be where the event came from.
I’ve only read the first volume and a half of the manga… I have more but it’s difficult to muddle through the deliberately-archaic Japanese.
Lots of the first volume is taken up by added stuff.
Liu Bei buys tea for his mother, traveling far out of his way to reach a shipment from Japan (IIRC)… On his way back he is accosted by Yellow Turbans, who cart him around for a while. He tries to escape by selling his sword (a family heirloom), but is taken prisoner anyway. He manages to break out through the aid of an old priest, who tells him to escort a certain princess (yeah now we’re getting into completely fake stuff) off of the mountain.
Eventually he meets up with Zhang Fei, a retainer of the princess’ family, who helps him rescue said princess and recover his sword. Liu Bei gives the sword to Fei in gratitude, Fei gives him his own in return, Fei walks off with the princess, Bei goes home.
Arriving home, his mother bursts into tears, half in gratitude and half in disappointment, for Bei has given away the only proof of his family’s imperial descent.
A few years later, Bei notices the call for volunteers (as usual). He meets Zhang Fei again as well; Guan Yu is a local schoolteacher who happens to already be Fei’s sworn brother. Bei mentions the sword, Fei returns it and asks to serve Bei in crushing the YTs, and things progress as normal.
You know, when I started this post I was pretty sure Sangokushi would still be mostly canon from there… but now I’m not.
I really wish I had a scanner, though. Partly for Mitsuteru’s Sangokushi and partly for the Scholar Bunko version (also of course called Sangokushi). The Scholar Bunko one has the most badass-looking Cao Cao I have ever seen.

ModeratorDreamcast had some neat games, but I still don’t have one… I’ve had several games recommended to me on it, though. Most common was Shenmue.
Dragon Force was on Saturn. Neat game, too.

ModeratorThe main changes were:
-Checking of officer’s name when saving (just in case people typo and put an @ or something in a name)
-Cleaning of errors (no more 45532 ! 55325 ! 143, for example; now it actually gives more useful information)
There haven’t been any really major changes. The only remaining thing I’d like to fix is getting it so that 2-segment and 3-segment names are properly "fixed" so they display properly (i.e. changing Zhu Ge Liang to Zhuge Liang gets the spacing right). I don’t fully know how that works, though, so I might do a bit of testing before fixing that up.

ModeratorThread bumped because editing the first post didn’t do it.
A new version is out, mostly bugfixing. I am starting a topic at SoSZ as well, since the editor seems stable enough to expand the beta test a bit.

ModeratorWell, after nearly an hour of searching, this is the *only* info I could even find on the PC88 version of Tenchi wo Kurau.
Evidently it’s impossible to find any ROMs of this stuff, much less any reviews, much less any info on Huo Hu’s role in the game.
About all I can glean from this is that it is an action/rpg of some flavor, probably similar to the Ys games. It also seems to be based (like DoaE) on Yokoyama Mitsuteru’s Sangokushi manga. Beyond that, I’ve got nothing.

ModeratorI would love to make a game (or even a hack) based on one of the Langrisser games, set in the Three Kingdoms.
The engine is just so perfect for the setting, it’s essentially a strategy/rpg with troops separate from generals. It makes things feel a lot larger-scale, whereas LOCC still feels like every other tactical RPG… more like a skirmish than a battle, even with 10+ "generals" on each side.
Niahak
ModeratorI’m nearly 23 now. I’m going to have to start counting the years down instead of up in a while here :)
Niahak
ModeratorOh, that doesn’t mean I didn’t like the game. It’s still better than nearly every other NES RPG (except maybe DW4), it’s just not as ridiculously awesome as DoaE.
It may end up happening, but I wouldn’t expect any breakthroughs this weekend or anything.
Niahak
ModeratorI might consider picking it up later on, but probably not for a little bit. I bet a lot of the officer system is pretty similar though so it wouldn’t take as long to work around.
I love DoaE, it has tons of class. But I never got into DoaE2 for some reason. It feels more restrictive to me in some ways, and doesn’t run as quickly so I got bored easily when I played it.

Moderator:( Sorry to hear that! Do you remember what changes you made?
The only things I can remember off the top of my head that you shouldn’t do are:
1. Setting the officer background to any of the weird settings (the ones that say "Unknown – 80" or so), although leaving them on the weird ones is okay.
2. Making a name for an officer that’s not alphabetical. Spaces are obviously okay, but for stuff like 12|+/?;'[], the editor will probably *not* tell you they’re not okay, then will barf on you when you try to export :(

ModeratorI haven’t been doing much of anything with this. I’ve been in a bit of a funk, which has nothing to do with the fact that a friend convinced me to get the Orange Box. Completely unrelated to the fact that I beat Portal and am now addicted to Team Fortress 2.
I’m planning to wrap up what I’ve got on DoaEd and make the next release official, once I’ve duct-taped the holes everywhere (like how you can try to enter non-alphanumeric characters in names, how it doesn’t autosave, how it doesn’t save officer names in the left list and re-sort). That’ll probably be next weekend, just to be safe.
If there are any more suggestions, let me know. I’d like to include more "editable" stuff eventually, but I’m not sure what I could add without making a full-blown customized text/battle editor, and we don’t know enough about the ROM yet to do that.
Niahak
ModeratorThe Wei mod was mostly a test of DoaEd. I may continue it later on but I haven’t done much of anything in about a week.
