Moderator@LordAtma,
Can you try out this version?
https://niahak.org/doaed/DoaEd_new_mapping.zip
It adds
* Faster map loading time (~50% of the old time, for an expanded mod, in testing)
* Mapping “click to pick” support (i.e. instead of click-dragging tiles, you click on the tile you want to “paint” and then while it is selected you can just click on the map)
* Integrated your updated town tilesetsI’m a little leery of making it an “official” release as I’m not confident in my testing ability, this app does so much more than it used to.
I also made some other minor updates, like you no longer need a really old .NET.

ModeratorHey MiDKnighT, I sent you an email with some questions about DoaEditor. Not sure if you’re using the same email as before, thought I’d post here to make sure you saw it. Not likely to be doing much for a bit, just trying to get set up.
Niahak
ModeratorDon’t worry about checking stuff in. I’m not even sure I have my environment configured for DoaEd anymore – I think I’ll have to reinstall SVN at the very least… and I think I was using SharpDevelop or something, even if I still have that installed it’s probably worth migrating to something new to write the code. If I get much of anything done this weekend, I’d be doing it on a branch and likely won’t get to anything releasable. Lots of cobwebs to get out of my brain too, I haven’t opened the project in at least 8 years.
Eventually it might even make sense to migrate to github or something, since then we could set up a pipeline (automated compile + zipfile build).

ModeratorWhile I’m a couple years late, it’s awesome to see LYS still up and running.
Regrettably it seems like Kongming’s Archives and SOSZ are (mostly) gone. I’ve been on a (very slow) crusade over the past year to resurrect a couple of sites I’ve worked on before and dragged them back online, so I know the effort involved in a revamp and troubleshooting issues as they arise. That’s brought me on a trip down memory lane – looking over some of the side projects I used to have time for and want to make time for again someday as the kids grow up. I still prefer the more personal touch of small forums/blogs to subreddits or discord channels, but I’ll probably be lurking wherever people are. Kudos to everyone keeping the fires burning on the site and these ongoing projects.

ModeratorHey all, I’m back-ish at least for now. Life is busy and I can’t make any guarantees about new features (much less any timeframes if I were to implement them – time in front of a computer for DoaEditor stuff would be pretty limited).
From what I recall, the tech involved is pretty limited but it might be possible to rewire to a kind of “paint dropper” feature i.e. you choose the 2×2 terrain you want, and can click-drag across multiple tiles to set all of them to that 2×2 block. Is that what you’re looking for when you say a pencil tool DragonAtma?

ModeratorThis is really cool to read. Nice find! I still have only seen DOAE in the wild only a couple times, I’m surprised in retrospect there even was an advertising push based on how it sold. But I guess they got some superfans out of it…

ModeratorHey Meng Da,
Try this link:
http://u10.getuploader.com/Tenchi/download/601/%E7%A7%8B%E9%A2%A8%E4%BA%94%E4%B8%88%E5%8E%9F+ver2.89.zip
Click the link that says “ダウンãƒãƒ¼ãƒ‰” (if you can’t read it, it’s the first button below the textbox, the smaller button)
You’ll probably need to use Lunar IPS or another IPS patcher with a Japanese version of DOAE2 to play it.
It’ll still be in Japanese, of course, but if you’re familiar with how DOAE2 works that might not be impossible to deal with.I’m afraid I don’t have the time to do the investigation work, but there is a treasure trove of information about DOAE2’s rom structure, and even DOAE1’s on this website (http://wildplants.es.land.to/data.html). You could probably plug the info into Google Translate to get most of the good stuff (mouse over the links for a half-english name – Tenchi1 is DOAE, Tenchi2 is DOAE2, and most of links are sort of like
http://wildplants.es.land.to/text/tenchi2_item_map.txtThe page IS in shift-JIS format, but most browsers can switch active encoding by e.g. alt-V and finding the character encoding menu. That would help to copy-paste into google translate…
So if someone has a bunch of time on their hands and wants to look into this, I think it’d mostly be ROM tinkering and Google Translate.

ModeratorNiahak seems like he practically breathes Japanese and I’m sure with you guys’ technical skills it keeps you traveling to those places every now and then.
Used to! I decided to stop keeping up with those skills earlier this year, when I realized I’d rather spend my decreasing free time playing games than editing / fan-translating them. My spoken skills are terrible now and only barely got us where we needed to go when we got lost a couple times. I’ve only actually been a few times, this time was more coincidental (GF was planning to go and invited me along).
Those are some pretty awesome pictures, MK! Glad you all had a good time :)

ModeratorNice! Yeah, we also did a day trip from Kyoto for Osaka. It was pretty easy and we got to see the castle, the Osaka aquarium (they have a whale shark!) and also stopped by Den Den Town for a bit of game shopping for me :)
Those are some great places. How was the fish market? I haven’t been, but it seems to be a pretty popular destination.
Fushimi Inari in particular was really cool, but we gave up after about a mile in. We’d been to three other temples that day and were exhausted at that point. We had gotten really slap-happy and the torii were everywhere, so my GF and I were making terrible jokes (“there are so many, they must have been made in a fac-torii”). We only actually explored about a third of it. It did get us one of my favorite pictures of the trip:

ModeratorWelcome back!
Nice! I went to Japan last year, and Osaka castle was among the places we went was Osaka castle (we ended up going to Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Kanazawa, and Hiroshima in total – saw Nijo, Osaka, Kanazawa and Hiroshima castles, though we didn’t go inside Nijo).Osaka castle was definitely the best for historic value. Himeji’s definitely the best castle if you want to see original structure, but it’s a bit of a trip to reach, so we didn’t go there this trip.
Where all did you end up going in Japan? It’s a great place to visit.

ModeratorAwesome work!
I’ve uploaded fixes to the region selector. I also start up loading map graphics in a separate thread so you can click on other things while it’s loading up (it’s a bit tricky, but it should be safe if users aren’t clicking on stuff *in* the graphics page while it’s loading).
There’s still a tiny issue where the region selector’s last column is squeezed, but I don’t think there is actually anything in those regions so it may not be an issue.

ModeratorSure, I should be able to find some time Saturday or Sunday.

ModeratorHoly cow, I didn’t think to check in yesterday and I drop by today and you’ve got all the new stuff figured out. Very nice work!

ModeratorYeah, I was concerned about that since I didn’t look over many of the tiles.
I didn’t use control codes in the input (assuming starting out that at least some cave/town tiles didn’t have control codes).

ModeratorI won’t be doing any editing today, so feel free to continue working on things. I might have time Tuesday, but that’ll probably be it until the weekend.
