ModeratorI heard Revenant Wings is fairly light RTS fare, of all things. No exploration, no towns, just RTS. Kiddy story, good music and graphics, simplistic RTS from the sound of it.
Gonna wait for a few more opinions for sure. Heroes of Mana sounded better, at least.
I never got more than 7 hours into FFX. Blitzball looked like the kind of thing you’d play while watching a movie or something; not engaging, but a time-waster. Of course, that’s judging from the fact that one of my college roommates would play Blitzball and Warcraft 3 and watch a movie at the same time. Jeez, that guy was a mega-multitasker.
FFX seems like it would be good, but Tidus is such a whiny, outspoken jerk I could barely stand to play as long as I did. I like the music, and some of the plot elements (as I have watched 3 people play through the game), but I hate Tidus.

ModeratorI think the memory bird was in 2 as well, and ACF of course.
In 3, the save points were these little mechanized dwarf thingies with sombreros. I think they were named after the dwarves from The Hobbit, too.

ModeratorNot really, sadly.
The soldiers changer is a good idea. I could make that at some point, probably wouldn’t be too tough. I would probably make it a separate program though.

ModeratorYang Ang probably had no issues because it was the same amount of letters (so pointers didn’t have to change).
I’ve tested and yes, this is an issue.
I’ve fixed it in the current version (now 0.7b).

What I’ve done *shouldn’t* change anything else… but unfortunately I don’t have time for extensive testing so please save often. I do know that it works for Tao Qian though :)

ModeratorI’ll take a look at it later today. I bet it’s not updating Tao Qian’s pointer for some reason :/
Niahak
ModeratorYeah… I honestly should’ve removed the first 4 entries (and the Pirate guy) from being edited. I have no idea what they do differently from other officers and their pointers seem weird too.
Sorry about that.

ModeratorZhang Lu – if you want, I can take a look at the rom. It’s probably just a mixed-up pointer or bad offset somewhere, and a bit of massaging it manually will fix it (I fixed LYS’ early on in about 15 minutes, and that one was seriously screwed up :P )
Plus this gives me an opportunity to see where DoaEd might still have issues.

ModeratorI’m not active because there’s not much to say.
Beyond, y’know, the usual stuff. I’m not so much into the powder.
Niahak
ModeratorI’d switch up Cheng Pu and Zhuge Jin, too, since that would agree with the timeline a bit more.
If the creator wouldn’t mind doing a little text editing, I’d like to see Xu Shu replaced with Zhou Yu. Then the reason he could leave would be due to his failing health.

ModeratorIt’s probably a flash-card of some type or another. I know they’re floating around (one of my roommates in college got one)… and you can load smallish operating systems, complete with NES emulators, on them.
Haven’t considered getting one yet, but then I never thought to try DOAE on one. Where did you buy it?

ModeratorI’m another boring white guy. Scandinavian heritage. Sadly that hasn’t given me any urges to raid vulnerable English villages yet…
Niahak
ModeratorI can answer both of those :P
RTK 11 is ruler-based, but still has the Action Points. I think it’s to force you to delegate fairly early on – which makes sense! Nobody can rule an empire on their own.
I have a fighting force of about 20 good officers in my district – I only run out of AP when the fighting gets particularly fierce, or I’m emphasizing development to keep a supply line.
Persona 3 is an RPG, but the combat system is fairly light and easy to learn, while still remaining strategic.
If you have a decent computer, I would recommend Mount & Blade. I don’t know quite how to describe it; it’s an Action/Strategy/RPG. It’s a medieval game with remarkably intuitive controls. You raise your own band of soldiers and take out bandits here and there, and you can join various factions in their fight. It’s a blast to play; every time I win a particularly rough fight it feels great.

ModeratorI posted up a DOAE table so you can read some of the "text"… it’s around here somewhere…
http://www.niahak.org/images/DOAE/doae.tbl I believe (right click and save file as…)
Open the rom, then open the above file as a table, and you should see some of the text.
The most immediately recognizable is the intro; try searching for Zhu Ge Liang for example.
Second most recognizable is the officer section…
The text will probably be at most a third filled in. I think that table has parts of Bei’s mother’s speech, but the search function doesn’t work too well with it.
Niahak
ModeratorThe way the dictionary and text are now… there is really no good way I can think of to do a text editor and still have any guarantees about the game’s script length.
It’s beyond my capabilities for sure. I’d like to do it eventually… I might ask around and see if any of the romhackers I know would be willing to help out.
