ParticipantYou have to rest with no money, when you get up you have some random amount of money for spending.

ParticipantI think the basic games haven’t gotten much longer, they just lengthen the play time with lots of fetch quests and filler dungeons.
What a lot of games these days seem to lack is challenge. And I don’t mean frustration. I think Luca Blight is a good example of a challenge: it takes three battles and a duel to kill him. But imagine him being so overpowered that you have to spend hours leveling just to put a dent in him (or the flip side, him being so weak you kill him in like two turns). That would ruin the experience.

ParticipantI checked this out and it seems you are correct, good job on the find! I’ll stick this in the guide and give you a mention.

ParticipantSuikoden 1 starts 6 years and ends 3 years before 2, it seems the games spans three years.

ParticipantI found a Scan spell in the Jingzhou cave, so no more guessing on enemy HP. Too bad it doesn’t work on bosses though.

ParticipantCao Cao and Taishi Ci are on their way to the capital when they encounter Huangfu Song’s army fighting a large Yellow Scarves force. They fall in with the army and Cao Cao meets with Huangfu Song in his tent.
Cao Cao: "General, what is your situation?"
Huangfu Song: "Zhang Liang’s forces have taken up residence in Chen Liu castle, and we are engaging them on the field of battle. However, they have greater numbers and many of our troops are not well trained."
Cao Cao: "With such a swarm in the field, they have surely left few men to guard the castle. Lend me men and some of the rebel attire, and I will root them out. Then you may destroy them."
So Huangfu Song gives Cao Cao 500 men fresh from the capital and some Yellow Scarves gear. Cao Cao brings the troops to Taishi Ci, and they move on to Chen Liu under cover of darkness. Taishi Ci rides up to the gate and taunts Zhang Liang, daring him to come out and fight. Zhang Liang sends out a general to engage, and Taishi Ci fights with him for half a dozen bouts. Then Zhang Liang, impatient, sends out a group of soldiers to overwhelm his enemy. Taishi Ci’s forces move up to attack the enemy for a time before the rebels break off to return to the city. Several of the Han soldiers disguised as soldiers mingle in with the mob and so get inside.
That night, the covert soldiers set fire to a few unimportant buildings. The rebels, in a panic, throw open the gate and flee from the flames. Taishi Ci spots Zhang Liang and rides to capture him, but is suddenly intercepted by the general he fought before. He blocks the blows of the general and knocks him from his horse with a heavy blow from his spear. Binding him, Taishi Ci brings the general back to Cao Cao.
Taishi Ci: "I failed to catch Zhang Liang, but I found this fellow and have returned with him."
Cao Cao did not recognize the man and asked him his name, and was told it was He Yi.
Cao Cao: "You are wasted on rebels such as these, but I see potential in you. If you agree to join me, I will spare your life."
He Yi agreed to the proposal, and his remaining troops were added to the band that Cao Cao had. Cao Cao left a few men to put out the fires and restore the Han rule in the city, and left with his remaining army to smite the Scarves from the rear. Thus surprised, Zhang Liang’s main army was crushed. Huangfu Song was impressed with Cao Cao’s assistance, and promised to memorialize the Emperor for his sake. Cao Cao was allowed to keep his borrowed men as well as the Scarves he had captured in the raid. Cao Cao, Taishi Ci, and He Yi resumed their march to the capital.
They did stop on the way at a bar, though, so Taishi Ci could spend his wine money.

ParticipantIt’s nice to see you have pic support for your reign of terror. So very thoughtful.
That said, do you have any plans of conquest or are you just living it up?

ParticipantTaishi Ci goes outside and sees a poster asking for recruits to fight the Yellow Scarves.
Taishi Ci: "This gives me a great idea…"
Taishi Ci heads insides, writes up his own poster, and sticks it up next to the recruitment one. Cao Cao walks by and reads the poster.
Poster: "Taishi Ci, soldier for hire. Will work for wine money."
Cao Cao says, "Exactly as I thought!" and hires Taishi Ci. Then they go to the capital to meet up with Liu Zhu’s regiment.

ParticipantI appreciate the offer, although somehow I don’t think there’ll be many posts that need moderating…oh well.

ParticipantWhatever you say, Dear Leader.

ParticipantZhao Yun’s drunk, you see, he’s really working for Sun Qian’s Gong.
Guess I’ll play along. I’m Taishi Ci, ready to go to a bar and knock back a few after smiting some Yellow Scarves for Kong Rong. But which bar shall it be? Hmm…..

ParticipantIt’s an unanswered question, I guess. But there are more important things I need to find out first, those being spells and items and such.
You don’t actually qualify for Ah, ULTIMATE HAPPINESS! yourself, you know.
Taishi Ci
ParticipantI’m of the opinion it’s the company that made the game.

ParticipantIt’s got more to do with DOAE, I’ll give you that. But I think you should put in a couple of Suikoden-type ranks too (like Potch Hunter or Filthy Godwin Devil or something).
Then again, I accept my new rank seeing as I am the current DOAE3 authority (I think SKOB is the only English in the whole game, unless you count HP and MP).

ParticipantPlaying through this, I notice sometimes the screen will move to a city and play an encouraging sound, or a discouraging one. I’m guessing these are random effects, like good harvest or locusts or something.
