ParticipantDestiny of an Emperor 2.0: Cao Cao Edition (v.0.5a)
Playing and Testing This Release
This version of Destiny of an Emperor 2.0: Cao Cao Edition features many of the changes made in the current revision of Destiny of an Emperor 2.0 (such as tactic, weapon, and level tinkering) in addition to some massive script rewriting. Not only does most of Jingzhou feature a new script other improvements have been made (and rewrites started). If you have time you can start this revision from the beginning to help troubleshoot scripts and make suggestions. Or, you can continue from your 0.4a save right before Jingzhou (you stopped there, right? Right?) and continue where we left off. Jingzhou, in this version, is a difficult region. Please provide feedback on the battles you face and officers you meet!
Also, level-ups have been tweaked considerably. You are going to start noticing this in Jingzhou but it is going to become much more apparent going into Shu. If you have saved up to a high level you will notice that the next one is now much further away. This is normal! Feedback is welcome on this adjustment.
Release Notes
Sorry about the delay, everyone!

KeymasterNiiice. Ok I gotta finish up Persona 3 and I’m going to be playing through this. I like the level adjustments, with these monster party’s you can make with Wei, it is easy to win random battles even with the harder enemies.

Yeah, sure is. By popular request I left the Liu Bei and Xu Shu battle as quite the challenge. The final battles in the area are going to be much tougher now, thanks to improvements in placing officers, so everyone will be in for a bit of a treat there. Some of those battles, though, would have been nightmares with Liu Bei’s crew. Cao Cao’s crew is just so powerful and intelligent… it really makes for a different game.
But that’s cool. It allows me to do some things I didn’t dare to do with Liu Bei. :)

KeymasterTaking a break on Final Fantasy Mystic Quest and starting this up. I ran out of food building up levels before Zhang Liang’s castle :) damn I forget how hard this one is despite the sweet Wei officers.
I haven’t noticed much difference with leveling up so far.

KeymasterI definitely like the use of Li Dian, Guo Jia and the fix soldier types, since leveling is now starting to take a lot longer that I am in the middle of Dong Zhuo’s area.
Is Dong Min supposed to not have another general with him? How did you do that, just replace Fan Chou’s spot with a Rebel Force?
Also I think someone mentioned this playing through before, but when you meet with Sima Hui he says "learm from Liu Bei".
Noticed the neat feature where if you do not recruit Ji Ling, you face him along with Yuan Shu Yuan Yin Lu Fan and Lu Bu at Nan Yang.

ParticipantYeah, unless we’re able to figure out how to create completely new officers (something which looks like it should be possible, but which would probably require a program from Niahak), one good way to get officers is to take them from other areas of the game. I think I did just this with Fan Chou (and I’ll be able to put him back if things balance out going through Wu and Wei).
Jingzhou is pretty harsh right now. :)
I didn’t think how the fixed-soldier officers might help a little more now that leveling is somewhat restricted. After some feedback I’m going to increase troop counts through the beginning and tone down attack powers a bit (to make things more consistent). The level requirements will also increase as a result, so the fixed-soldier folks might be even nicer afterward.

KeymasterYea jeez you upgraded that Ling Ling battle right? I remember it being just Zhuge and Liu Qi but now Zhao Yun and Zhang fei are there too. Just finished it up thankfully.
Just got Kuai Yue and Cai Mao…and Liu Cong! 26 strength 128 intelligence! nice job with him. Cai Mao is kinda crappy I was going to substitute him for Gao Shun but Gao has him in strength and intelligence. Kuai Yue is surprisingly useful but at that point your squad is just overwhelmed with options…including
Also just got Meng Da, he’s pretty sweet. One thing though. At that point in the normal game, Zhang Song blocks you from going into Shu if you do not have Zhuge Liang in your party. In this one I didn’t have Sima Yi and I could still move on (probably because the flag got switched around allowing Meng Da to be recruited). Just thought I’d mention that.
Definitely excited for the Liu Zhang / Zhang Lu section! This will be a great mod once completed.

Ooo… I guess you wouldn’t be able to recruit him until you cleared Jingzhou, so that wouldn’t be a balance concern. I wonder if the game would be okay without picking up Sima Yi, though? I’m trying to think if something nasty might happen if you progress in the storyline under those circumstances (and I wonder, though, how many people would get that far in this mod with no previous DoaE experience).

ParticipantWow!!! It’s 2008 and people are still playing DoaE??? I’m in absolute shock lol. I had no idea nerds like me even existed…u guys are my automatic best friends just for playing this game. I remember playing this game when i was 5! I couldn’t read the cartridge so instead I just called it "the three kids," referring to Liu Bei, Guan Yu and Zhang Fei since they were 3 small icons on the screen. Of course i didn’t play it very smart back then, and i never even made it past the first region. Then like 2 weeks ago i dusted off my NES, cleaned the doae cartridge and popped it in for old time’s sake. Long story short, I played 10-15 hours a day until i beat it lol. I remember it being good, but not so addictive! It could just be the awesome music lol.
I’m a first-person-shooter addict but DoaE has possessed me lol. A few days ago i started DoaE 2.0 and my hat’s off to the creator, the battles were definitely more challenging. In 1.0 the only tough battle was Si Ma Yi, not so in 2.0. Then again, i might have leveled up less in 2.0 since i was using a rom and could hit save/restore any time i wanted to avoid random encounters without smokepots.
Beat 2.0 this morning and i guess my next mod will be the Cao Cao one, it sounds interesting.
Great timing, i start playing these mods and school starts tomorrow lol there go this first half-semester’s grades out the window.
Pardon the long post but i still can’t believe ppl play this. Who the heck ARE you people lol.

We are the descendents of Huo Hu from Destiny of an Emperor, spreading his name along with his work huohu
lol…
You sound like me dude…Starting playing when I was 5-6 as my bro got the game and I watched him play through it…. I started a quest but I too was a dumb Destiny of an Emperor gamer…I remember I had no idea about how to equip weapons. but I must have accidentally done so because I recall getting up to the Dong Zhuo Chang An battle my first play through. It took me a while to get past that but I started to figure out the game a bit more after that learning curve. And I was advised to buy Smoke Pots and Power Pills for the tough battles :D huohu
Glad to hear you are enjoying the Destiny of an Emperor mods. We have all these sweet gadgets for making Roms for any army so it’s kind of fun if not a lot of a work.
You’d be surprised how many people that come here randomly to enjoy DoaE. :)
