ParticipantSo, then!
Does anyone have any opinions or ideas in regard to the cost of tactics? Anything that should cost less? Anything that should instead cost more? Thanks to Niahak, we can actually do something about this now! I was thinking that the cost of An Sha could be boosted a little bit to offset some of its hideous power.

Playing and Testing This Release
A number of game-wide parameter changes have been made which are going to come into play in the Wu and Wei areas. These changes pertain to tactics and are definitely going to need some consideration. Other considerable changes are being made that affect gameplay from beginning to end, though, and this release is complete through the end of Yuan Shu’s territory. If you don’t want to play through the beta multiple times while testing be sure to keep a save after Yuan Shu’s defeat or wait for the next revision when you reach that point! If you do continue playing, please make sure you pay close attention to your tactics and offer feedback as you see them develop.
Release Notes
I’m at it again! Thanks to some wonderful new discoveries made with thanks to Niahak for his vital research and knowledge and Arakasi not only for prodding me along, but also for taking the initiative and providing some excellent ideas, the time has come to upgrade Destiny of an Emperor 2.0 v. 1.00 to Destiny of an Emperor 2.0 v. 1.1. I guess that 2.0 sure makes things a little confusing! This is the first major revision of the first official release.
Project Goals
The 1.1 revision will include additional game balance tweaking but, unlike the previous version, it will not be limited only to battles, armor, enemies and weapons. Tactics have been adjusted quite significantly and some major changes will be made to the ways in which officers appear. Some other interesting changes are going to be made, such as alterations to weapon attack powers. The key focus of this revision is to make your party even more versatile, capable, and interesting. This involves some changes that increase difficulty and other changes that will make things easier.
- Weapon Attack Power Adjustments
- Tactics Learned and Stored Differently
- Considerable Differences Between Strategists
- More Than Two End-of-Game Tactic Strategies
- Tactic Costs Adjusted
- New Enemies, New Battle Surprises!
- New Game Balance Adjustments and Challenges
Are you interested in participating? Please play along with us as beta revisions are released. Improvements made to Destiny of an Emperor 2.0 v.1.1 will also be used in the Cao Cao edition which I will be resuming development of in short order (another one of those things we owe thanks to Niahak for — he’s making a very enticing text tool!)

ParticipantNiahak… there’s room at the end of the officers listing for new officers, but is there room at the end of the officers reference table? Where is the reference table for officers again? If there is room we can probably add new officers to Destiny of an Emperor!

Playing and Testing This Release
This revision includes all of the changes made above in DoaE 2.0 v.1.1b1 and is complete all the way up to Shu, including a brand new Lu Bu battle (which will delivery a very different experience from the previous one). I haven’t done too much officer swapping except at a few points due to a side effect which causes officers to duplicate. There may be a solution but that will have to wait until Niahak can share some thoughts. If you want to play along go through the game up until you reach Shu and give the Lu Bu battle a shot. A future beta will continue from there.

Participantalright, hot pants…i’m gonna give this a whirl now. halberds and all…
May 27, 2008 at 4:06 pm #28014Fallout
Participantalright…i’ve beaten yuan shu already, so here are my two cents…
i love the weapon name changes
liao hua is a perfect fit where he is
chen gong is perfect where he is
yang jin isn’t even a character, how ’bout hua xiong there
i got all of the flails in that cave before yuan shu
nice change on the wife’s helpful words, since the west wall thing isn’t helpful
good spot for guan suo
the merchant who give liu bei money, does he exist? what about jian yong?
and here’s a thought: how ’bout making the five swords the big weapons 3 kingdoms warriors used. such as the green dragon, snake spear, crescent halberd, seven star sword, and something else. would that take away from the game?
anyway, i’ll play on. updates later…

Wait until you get to Shu! Haha…

Yang Jin was left in place because he is a classic. But as I consider it again maybe it really would be worthwhile to consider new allies for Liu Bei. I guess as long as Song Yong, Song Ren and Huo Hu are preserved a degree of proper homage is maintained.
And Hua Xiong? Why him?

Worked out for me the second time through as well.
Looks like it was just the normal old bug manifesting normally.

I also put Ji Ling in the Yuan Shu battle so it makes more sense. If you don’t recruit Ji Ling you have to fight him again with Yuan Shu.

Especially if he’d ever bother showing up in my game.

The merchant exists, he is in Luosong village (just as he always has been). That’s where Capcom got the idea for the fellow who gives you 200 Gold and 1000 Food (or whatever it is that he gives you). Now, if he vanished that’s a totally different problem. Haha…
Jian Yong… I’d have to cut some folks like Yang Jin.

Actually, that does seem like a pretty cool idea. I love the old names just because they are Destiny of an Emperor but it would also be cool, especially for other players, to collect and recognize familiar unique weapons. I would probably need Niahak’s help getting extra room for the names, though.

Participantokay. so i’ve ripped shu to shreds and am journeying into wu right now. some notes:
this shit is hard! even my equipped halberds don’t do much…
james is in fact in love with "evade," and i hate him for that!
jia xu is a total ba
gan ji wiped me out in 2 nanoseconds (nice add, james, i added him in my new rom, too) :D
that final lu bu fight is like shaving with a used women’s razor. good times!!
i love the zhang lu fight!! but, where’s the yang song love??
okay, that’s it. i’ll post after annihilating wu, or vice versa…

ParticipantA new teaser!

Wang returns! And this time, he doesn’t give Pang Tong the boot.
Inadequate Wang was the greatest complaint of the original 2.0 release.
Thanks to Niahak for helping me to get a new Wang portrait in the game!

Niahak posted step-by-step instructions in the DoaE Portrait Editing thread I started the other day. Atma also shared the method he uses to edit portraits in the game. Either way works, though they are both a pain in the ass. :)

ParticipantAs for the portrait, I created it pixel-by-pixel in Photoshop…
