Lord Yuan Shu
KeymasterYeah next time I go through in english I’ll have to do a bunch of things over. First of all I don’t think I’ll be treating money with such importance as long as I have 4000 for the Silver Key. Just a little defense would help with that Yuan Shao battle and the Wen Hun/Yan Liang battle.
I also may have to consider Zhang Bao. It’s always been a staple in my DoaE strategy to skip him in both games, but he’s more of a detriment in 2 than the first one. Sometimes I forget his intelligence is 150, better than Huang Zhong and a little worse than Ma Chao. I could probably use that strength and his higher soldier count, I think at least the first Sima Yi battle would be easier for me.
So level 39 is at good as it gets pretty much? I wonder if you were to fight enough high-level Rebel Forces, if that can bring you to level 40 with the minimum battle’s completed.

ParticipantI can certainly say Zhang Bao helped a great deal playing through under this challenge. I too forgot his intelligence was 150, and was very interested in your idea (I still am). When I saw his intelligence was 150, I knew he would work very well for this challenge, though. He is still dumb enough that people don?t have trouble setting him on fire, turning him into a fish, or snatching away his head. My usual strategy has been to always pick him up, and when I get Jiang Wei I equip both him and Zhuge Liang with gear, switching between them as the situation dictates. This just takes away your ability to have both of them in the battle at the same time.
Note that if you do this, you will have to curb your spending a little in places like Ba-Shu (i.e. Battleax) if you want to get a Lance for your final character. I fell quite short of that mark (I needed another 40K). I think this time through I am going to be conservative with the purchase of some more expensive armor and some weapons to try and make up that difference.
I think level 38 should be possible. I have been picky this time through, just for the sake of experimentation, and already my choice to deny high-powered rebel battles as put me one level behind the norm for my area (it is a very small difference, but it has this affect on the game). I wonder if I?ll be able to get Xu Zhe and Fu Bing.
And yeah, I?m pretty certain that high level rebel forces also have the ability to drag you up to level 40. This is probably outside the regular odds, however, and I would suspect it is rare.

ParticipantBeat Lu Guang again, this time had enough money for the silver key and an inn stay after selling a spare Ax :P
I’m actually gonna fight Jin Xuan next, so that I have some money to spend on inn stays.
EDIT: Whipped Jin Xuan, backtracked to Bo Hai and am now fighting Xu Shou…died twice already because of that ****ing idiot Xu Shou using all those dammed tactics. It’s pissing me off BIG TIME. Luckily I have some things to do now, so I can come back to this later.

ParticipantYes. Huo Hu rules. I nearly cried when I had to remove him from my party in favor of Xu Zhe ;) :P
YAY! Defeated Xu Shou after about 50 tries :P, but now I have a dilemma. Zhao Yun has joined with only 396 soldiers. Who to replace, who to replace…
Nevermind, I beat Yuan Tan’s army with Ji Ling/Guan Yu/Zhang Fei/Xu Zhe/Zhao Yun, with Huo Hu as tactician and Guan Ping as backup.
Thank goodness for Yan Re! :D
Next up: Ma Yan and Lu Xiang (Whipped), the 2nd gate battle (forgot which generals, but whipped them quickly). Now to an inn to recover, then WE DESTROY YUAN SHAO!

ParticipantOnce Again, ULTIMATE HAPPINESS!!!
Yuan Shao has gone quietly into the night…though the bastard took Guan Yu with him. Stupid low level generals always dying :(
This is Ji Ling’s Army Now?!?
w00t, I just defeated Han Xuan. It’s easier than I thought after getting the Bow in Wu Ling, and using Yan Re until I puke :P
Sadly, with Wei Yan and Huang Zhong joining, Ji Ling is no longer useful. He goes to the reserve, and Xu Zhe becomes a full-on tactician, by not battling.
Gui Yang was easy for the taking. Zhao Fan is a joke. The gate before Ling Ling went down with ease. One attack, then it was all out, leaving me plenty of power to fight Liu Du with.

ParticipantArgh…Fight…Kill…Die
The Greatness That is Wei Yan!
Next: Back to Gui Yang, hopefully avoiding Pang Tong for now :P
EDIT: Oh noes! Pang Tong!
I’m Too Young to Die! :(
Too much Ji Mian from Pang Tong. We were whipped the first time around. Gonna heal up, and try again.

ParticipantUh oh…we’re up against Lu Bu now. His 7003 soldiers will be very hard to eliminate.
Easily routed. Went all the way back to Nan Yang to get Zhuge Liang into the party.

ParticipantLubu, in my opinion, is not as hard as Pang Tong, if you have high intelligent people.

When he eliminates my generals in one hit, it’s depressing. I think he’s the hardest battle we’ve faced so far :P

ParticipantYeah, it’s true that he can be hard, especially if you don’t have good equipment (like I had the first time I faced him…)

ParticipantIn the name of an experiment, I suffered through what may have very well been the hardest battle I?ve fought so far, but still had a shot to win! This was harder than Cheng Pu? I kid you not, try it?
