ModeratorLuo Guanzhong sometimes plays hard and fast with the truth, especially for minor people. In the novel Han Xuan was hated, but historically he was loved by his people; Changsha still has a worship hall for him today, despite it being destroyed and rebuilt several times. Historically Han Xuan surrendered to Liu Bei (as did Jin Xuan, Liu Du, and Zhao Fan), but sticking with that would feel like a very contrived deus ex machina! XD

I like DoaE II's portrayal of Jin Xuan. Stubborn and then dies from a Gong Zhi arrow huohu .
Well, I just did some experimenting with the Zhou Cang and Wei Yan / Huang Zhong ambushes. Set both of them up early in the game and gave all those officers 100 soldiers, so I could kill them easily. When you encounter both of these battles, the pre-battle taunt is "There's no one there". Seriously lol…
Now for the Xu Huang / Chen Jiao / Yan Xun battles, they have generic taunts ("Crush Them"…"I am Xu Huang. Let's fight."…"I am Yan Xun. Let's fight.")
Anyway, after beating Liang Gang in the Zhou Cang battle (he's in my Zhou Cang spot), I proceeded to go to the Zhou Cang cave afterwards and recruited Liang Gang. So having the battle doesn't seem to have anything to do with Zhou Cang in the cave (plus, you could just take Zhou Cang's code out of there and fill the battle with a bunch of random soldiers).
I do wonder about the Wei Yan / Huang Zhong ambush though, because you can fight them in random battles in Jing Zhou. What if you put the gate before Chang Sha, beat those two in the ambush, and then can recruit them in the field? Seems possible, with how the game works. In turn we may be better served to again clear them from that battle and use completely different characters, so as to not have to worry about that side effect (having them recruited in the field before fighting them in Chang Sha).
I think I'll put at least one of these battles in early Wei. Cao Cao already has so many soldiers that are not in gate / castle battles, like Song Xian, Cao Hong, Pang De, Xun You, etc. Might as well get those spots in a gate battle.

ModeratorFor some reason I couldnt find the Huang Zhong Wei Yan battle pointers. Can you post the 4 hex values for each of the 4 pointers for that here?
October 28, 2011 at 12:01 am #28331Lord Yuan Shu
KeymasterSure man…
Quote:49 – Zhou Cang *6* – 00 00 00 004A – Huang Zhong and Wei Yan *7* – 00 00 00 00
4B – Pang Tong (Ambush) – 00 00 00 00
4C – Pirate Inn – 00 00 00 00
4D – Jian Ye (Taishi Ci) – 09 10 0D 13
4E – Ru Nan (Sima Yi) – 0B 0D 01 13
4F – Lu Bu (Shu Ambush) – 00 00 00 00
The battles with 0 0 0 0 address are triggered by an event (ie…talking to someone) or in Lu Bu and Pang Tong's case it comes as a random battle. For explanations on the *'s see: http://kongming.net/doae/rom_hacking/battles/
To change the battle location, the 4 address values are stored in:
0x30C10 = List of coordinate 1 positions for all boss battles.
0x30C68 = List of coordinate 2 positions for all boss battles.
0x30CC0 = List of coordinate 3 positions for all boss battles.
0x30D18 = List of coordinate 4 positions for all boss battles.
As you see, the value in Hex for those ambush battle locations is 00 00 00 00. But just compare the values that you see in the list, it is near the end of the battle list so you will see a ton of 0's in the hex right after these ambushes.

-More officers in most boss battles.

ModeratorNow, now; you shouldn't give Liu Shan Jin Xuan's pic.
Instead you should give him another pic, such as Ronald McDonald.

Moderatorwow, looks cool! Send me that link for the php and fedian files (that work!). Sprites look cool! Have to try this out

KeymasterThanks everyone. I've put quite a bit of work into it the last month or so. I owe it all to the assembly work around here and other hacking…expanding the possibilities and expanding our DoaE minds huohu I just carefully follow directions and am gaining working knowledge of how these processes function.
Quote:such as Ronald McDonald.Well Liu Bei is pretty much the RTK version of Ronald McDonald (love the people, let's all be friends).
Quote:wow, looks cool! Send me that link for the php and fedian files (that work!). Sprites look cool!Well, I don't have a special Php or anything. Just downloaded the big Php folder that MiDKnighT had posted here. Then put every file you need in that folder (the portraits, sprite, rom, etc). Go to Windows – Run – cmd. Then you should have access to use Feidian and then…
php feidian.php -ci nes8,1,1008,0×70090 newsprites1.bmp yuanshumod.nes
That did it for me.
The next few lists of sprites I'd love to run through as I get time. There are still some unique ones that I would like to get (DoaE 2 Zhang Fei is one, also Zhuge Liang and Liu Biao). I've got to figure out to a way to properly flip the sprites though.
One thing I could do that is useful is post my doae I spritetable…because it includes the 42 DoaE II sprites added from newsprites1.bmp. Of those 42 Destiny of an Emperor 2 sprites I have maybe 60-70% of them named correctly (most of the remaining ones belong to generic characters which is why I have to play the game to see who they are since I don't have that memorized like I do the DoaE I sprites).

KeymasterDestiny of an Emperor Sprite Table List that includes Destiny of an Emperor 2 sprites from newsprites1.bmp (MiDKnighT's DoaE II sprites that are set-to-go for Destiny of an Emperor I, ie with proper color and motion (see Page 1 of Destiny of an Emperor Rom Hacking Guide for further specifics). If you have nothing that reads the file, get NotePad++ or something like that.
Replace the spritetable with this one in the Destiny of an Editor that you use (in the tables folder). That will allow you to load the DoaE II sprites in the Editor.
If anyone can figure out who the remaining DoaE II sprites belong to, that'd be great (like I said many of them are generics so there will be a few DoaE II officers who use these generic enemy sprites).

ParticipantThe battle against Yuan Shao at JiZhou was quite a difficult, I really didn't stand a chance with just my party from the beginning until I had to recruit Yan Liang and Wen Hun ( they took from me quite a bit of money lol ) and train till my tactician reach lv16 and I have Yin Xian, then the result was obvious.
DoaE gave birth to Huo Hu.
November 6, 2011 at 7:13 am #28342Lord Yuan Shu
KeymasterWow you didn't even have Yin Xian by the time you got to Ji Zhou? Impressive. Yea that is a tough battle especially if you let Liu Bei go.
Wen Hun and Yan Liang help a lot though and plus they have their DoaE II sprites + portraits so people will want to use them.
I just realized value 60 in the sprite table list (newsprites1.bmp) is DoaE II Yuan Shao! What a fool for taking so long for me to recognize that, though with the color differences it can be hard sometimes (it is currently affixed to Chen Ji and I just noticed it).
Needless to say the next update I have for the Yuan Shu mod (probably sometime Sunday) will include Yuan Shao with his Destiny of an Emperor II sprite. Not worth restarting your rom or anything for huohu
