Lord Yuan Shu
KeymasterAdding characters to battles. Qing Zhou is a bit harder. Having Han Xian here means you can then recruit him after and he won't be at the Zhang Jiao battle, but that's okay.

Song Ren is badass. You have to fight him at Qing Zhou then you can recruit him.

If you take the back route and the 'easy' battle you get to fight Ma Yuan Yi again.

Added Zhang Liao to the Lu Bu battle, seemed necessary.

Are you Emperor?

ModeratorIn the Dynasty Warriors series he did and if he was with Lu Bu w/ Ding Yuan and in Yan, wouldn't it be possible that he sort of "travelled with him" in a sense?

ModeratorQuote:In the Dynasty Warriors series he didFound this: "Ding Yuan had Zhang Liao lead an army to go to the Imperial Capital. He Jin then sent him to Hebei to recruit soldiers, and Zhang Liao recruited more than a thousand men. Upon Zhang Liao’s return, He Jin was killed and Zhang Liao and his men were now under the control of Dong Zhuo. When Dong Zhuo was overthrown, Zhang Liao and his troops were then controlled by Lu Bu, and he was promoted to Chief Commandant of the Cavalry. Lu Bu was subsequently defeated by Li Jue. He followed Lu Bu and fled eastward to Xu Province, and was appointed Chancellor of Lu State, at this time, Zhang Liao was twenty-eight years old. (II) When the Grand Progenitor [Cao Cao] routed Lu Bu’s forces at Xiapi, Zhang Liao led his men and surrendered. The rank of General of the Interior was conferred upon Zhang Liao, and he was given the title of Marquis of the Imperial Domain.

So if Zhang Liao served Dong Zhuo it was very brief and he didn't seem to do anything of significance at that time. He started making a name for himself while serving Lu Bu after Dong Zhuo's death.

ModeratorSo… just throw some crappy genric general in there instead? :D

ModeratorQuote:So… just throw some crappy genric general in there instead? It depends on if you're going the historical route, historical-fiction (novel), or full fiction.
While it is true that Zhang Liao was under Dong Zhuo for a short time, he didn't have a lot of troops, did not have a large leadership role, and didn't seem to fight in any significant battles that I'm aware of.

ModeratorI think more or less people play DOAE for the characters from ROTK and the story and not so much for whether or not it follows history to a key. When I first started to make the mod it was following the more "historical route" and overall just wound up being more of the same mundane

KeymasterQuote:Not sure why you guys are doing this. Zhang Liao never served Dong Zhuo right? Thanks man. I really should read stuff again so I have a better idea. I'll take him out. I'm trying to make it as historically reasonable as possible though to be honest there is plenty more for me to read about Yuan Shu to do that. In the meantime however it's enough time making this mod so I'll have to do my best with what I know and then make changes later if they make more sense.
So yea, I'll take Zhang Liao out and will just use him as a Wei enemy. I'll have to add some lame dude like Zhao Cen or re-add Hu Zhen to take the spot.

ModeratorLYS I was actually wrong. Zhang Liao *did* serve Dong Zhuo for a short time but didn't really have much rank or a sizable army at the time. I never knew that Zhang Liao served Dong Zhuo at all before.
The badazz general we all know and love really gained prominence under Lu Bu (post Dong Zhuo) and Cao Cao.

KeymasterQuote:LYS I was actually wrong.Yea, I just meant more-so like you said that he wasn't really prominent during Dong Zhuo's tenure. I try not to be like Dynasty Warriors where they abuse even the smallest relation a high-end character has to a force.
So yea, Hu Zhen replaced him. Just gave Hu Zhen a powerful weapon and that should be good enough replacement difficulty-wise.
Made a lot more edits to the battles and text throughout. Battles are done through Jing Zhou.
Fucked up the Ma Liang recruit spot though. I have Liu Xun in his spot. First of all, Ma Liang has two different lines after you initially meet him. Normally he just does both of them when you first talk to them but in editing them I must have split them up, as he finishes awkwardly after the first sentence and then you talk again to get the rest from him.
Then after the Jing Zhou events, I go to recruit him and the game completely bugs right as he finishes his text.
Not sure what I'll do, though it seems like just copy/pasting the original text for Ma Liang in that spot seems like a good start, then just edit from there and hope that I don't create the same problem I did last time in editing his text.

KeymasterThings are going well, might have close to a final beta ready soon with all the new tools (map stuff, text, battle adjusting, etc).
Really digging being able to create extra gates now in Wei after the second Si Ma Yi fight. The Xu Huang + Chen Jiao boss fights are coded somewhere between Chin and Chen Liu Fortress so it seemed fitting. Then used the Yan Xun battle in Wu.
Wondering about the Zhou Cang un-used battle though. Would that affect his recruiting situation? Probably not I'm thinking, since we don't go into battle with him (according to the battle code though we are to fight Zhou Cang with 4 Rebel Forces).
I think I'll probably try to find a spot for that battle and the Wei Yan / Huang Zhong un-used ambush battle.
Also need to consider using Chen Lin, Sun Gan, Xun You, and Liu Chan. All can just be edited and thrown into a battle somewhere. Already have made use of the Yi Ji and Zhang Song spots, though they are a bit different since they are in the storyline, in houses.

Moderatoris it possible to do the battle of Zhou Cang when placed on the map? hmmm, didnt try that one, didnt know if it would mess up cave recruitment code

KeymasterIma try it. Considering the battle doesn't happen and the battle is at 00 00 00 00, I think there is a shot it works. I can just use the hex editor to change who is in the battle so Zhou Cang or whoever is in that spot won't even be a part of it. We'll see. Time to test it in a bit.

ModeratorZhang Liao followed Lu Bu pretty much nonstop from Ding Yuan up until Lu Bu's death; therefore, I get the feeling he served as one of Lu Bu's officers, and that he was a fairly low rank until Cao Cao saw his talent. Althoguh the novel has reports of him and Zang Ba leading units in battles between Lu Bu and Cao Cao, I have yet to see any official reports pre-Cao Cao where he has such authority.
Yes, it reminds me of Wei Yan, who was (despite what the novel claims) just a common soldeir under Liu Biao and Han Xuan.

KeymasterQuote:Yes, it reminds me of Wei Yan, who was (despite what the novel claims) just a common soldeir under Liu Biao and Han Xuan.I can believe it for him with Liu Biao. Wei Yan was always one of the best home-grown Liu Biao officers you could get in RTK's, though he was rarely loyal to Liu Biao. He was really just a commoner with Han Xuan though? Was the Wei Yan / Huang Zhong takeover real or just a DW / RTK created spin?
As for Zhang Liao, I'm going to leave him off the Dong Zhuo roster. He's still in Luo Castle with Lu Bu and then at Guang Ling Castle in Wei like he normally is (kind of a bit role for him there, I might put him as the 5th officer at Ru Nan with Cao Cao).
