Yea switching Lu Bu with Pang Tong caused some more problems. I put Guan Yu in for Pang Tong as the Shu Lu Bu fight…but now all the pointers go to Guan Yu instead of Lu Bu! I think I’m going to have to keep that Lu Bu but make it so that he doesn’t die and joins later on (at like Luo Castle for example).
What do you mean by that, exactly?
I’ll be messing with this fight shortly in the Cao Cao remake.
I’m just saying that I changed the Lu Bu Shu battle to have Guan Yu there instead of Lu Bu. In doing that I caused every reference to Lu Bu to be Guan Yu (like, "a powerful warlord named Guan Yu is at Hulao Gate").

Meanwhile I ran into another weird snag. After you beat Jing Zhou and tell Xu Shu that his mom is ill…instead of telling me about Zhuge Liang…he says the same line as Yi Ji! And he doesn’t move lol! So you can’t continue on…
What would have caused this? All the text altering in Jing Zhou cause the Yi Ji line to flow into Xu Shu’s text? hehe
This sounds pretty concerning. I don’t see how this would happen normally… but it could be some form of corruption.
If you can’t find another cause, I’d like to see it for DoaTed debugging purposes.
Okay as for this. I had a saved state in that Guan Yu battle so fortunately I was able to go back quickly and see what happened here. I somehow just lost the saved state for this by renaming it and or moving it…I’ll try to find it and upload.
Evidently Xu Shu goes on to tell about Zhuge Liang’s house like he normally does…but at the end it says -? and it just goes right into the Yi Ji line about going to see Ma Liang and Ma Su.
Definitely has something to do with one of my Jingzhou text edits because it worked fine several times in this mod going through before :) I’ll have to go through specifically that Yi Ji line and see if messing with it changes anything.
Funny thing is I went and got a Gullwing so I could get out of there…and Xu Shu just stays at Gui Yang! So even if you have a Gullwing and can get out, you’ll never be able to advance the story since you need to meet up with Zhu Ge Liang at Gui Yang after this :)

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingJuly 8, 2008 at 1:35 am #34615NiahakModeratorHmm… the Jingzhou area is part of the 2nd block. I hope there’s not an overwriting issue there. :/
I’m working on the next version now. I hope to have it up shortly.
July 8, 2008 at 1:36 am #34616Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterAwesome.
Well I have several saves of this mod so I’m going to go a little bit back to where it wasn’t bugged. I’ll alter the Jingzhou text again and be more careful about words / characters. And I’ll report back :)

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingJuly 8, 2008 at 2:26 am #34617NiahakModeratorVersion 4 is up!
Here or at the front page.
This version fixes the broken functionality from v3 and adds officer name processing.
I have tested it on vanilla DoaE and glanced over James’ Cao Cao mod and my Gemfire mod which only contains 4-5 plot-relevant renames thus far. Please, before saving anything with this version open up your mod and make sure the names line up properly! I’m still not confident this all works right.
July 8, 2008 at 12:58 pm #34618Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterCool I’ll have to download that.
I’m shit out of luck with this rom though…

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingJuly 8, 2008 at 3:34 pm #34619Xian Zhu XuandeParticipantWhy not check the source code, LYS? That should be easy to fix as long as it hasn’t spilled over tons of scripts. All you have to do is open up the original ROM, find that script, and get the event flag. Open up the ROM you were working on, find that script, and fix it. You’ll need to re-add the event flag (thus making Xu Shu leave) and then close the line properly (there are special terminating characters that end a line — for some examples try the online tool).
All you have to do is re-write the line that follows (again assuming this is just a minor spill-over) and you’re golden.
Niahak, the first and second text blocks aren’t connected, are they?
Oh, LYS… keep backups. Keep lots of backups.
July 9, 2008 at 2:46 pm #34620Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterYea I have a few backups and am working on fixing the code…it’s just redesigning these games takes a LOOOONG ass time as it is, without fuckups like this…as I’m sure you know. All the playthroughs I do to go through and check to make sure things work, etc…so it’s a little demoralizing and I’m going to take a break from it and focus on real work more for a bit…but I won’t abandon this :)

September 20, 2008 at 4:34 am #34623Zhuge LiangParticipantWhen I was editing DoaE text, I got an error . Then, I can’t open that file to play or edit with Destiny of an Editor .
Does anyone know way to fix that problem ?
DoaE gave birth to Huo Hu.
September 20, 2008 at 10:39 am #34624Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterI’ve had that happen before. It sucks, good luck debugging it :)

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingSeptember 20, 2008 at 2:23 pm #34625NiahakModeratorWithout more description, there’s not much I can do. Can you remember what the error was? Seeing the ROM might help (I may be able to patch it back together with a bit of work).
September 20, 2008 at 2:49 pm #34626Zhuge LiangParticipantWhen I open Destiny of an Editor with that file , here’s result :

and here’s a picture when I open DoaE text editor

DoaE gave birth to Huo Hu.
September 20, 2008 at 3:54 pm #34627NiahakModeratorIt looks like I’d have to see the ROM to get an idea of what’s going on. Can you post it up someplace or email it to me (my username @ hotmail.com)?
February 15, 2009 at 9:37 pm #34628Xian Zhu XuandeParticipantPart of Liu Bei’s script when greeting his party after their return to Jianye from Sima Yi’s thunder is the fragment:
Code:[LEADER], are
you all right?[>]The game uses lines like this—lines which don’t explicitly [END]—from time to time when stringing multiple scripts together for a longer conversation. I tried to change the script to:
Code:[LEADER], are
you all right?
You’ve done well.[>]
Zhuge Liang
remains at
Ru Nan Castle.[>]… which results in an error when I attempt to export the script. It looks like the text editor is expecting some kind of script end, such as the [END] tag, or perhaps and event, and thus is not allowing this update to take place.
