KeymasterHua Xiong one-hit kills. Even with Ye Huo that was damn hard. Needed a lot of resurrects for that and Hu Lao Gate.
I like what you did with the Xiahou Dun and Lu Zhi / Huangfu Song battles. Sort of act as gates until you get around to that level to unlock them, then they are just shortcuts.
Long way slogging back to Fan Shui Guan to rest after each gate. Tough gates. Luo Yang was tricky too, but I'm getting the hang of the Resurrection strategy (ie not wasting time healing weakened officers, just blitzing away and using Resurrects when the characters die).
Not any other spelling errors but weird spacing sometimes with the spaces.

Huo Hu. Nice portrait dude, and I'm surprised you have a tactician over 179 INT now?

Sprite colors look nice. I especially like the yellow and brown, I might steal that.

There was my party. Now I've replaced Guan Ping and Hua Xiong with Huo Hu and Lu Bu. Lu Bu is a clear upgrade over Hua Xiong and Huo Hu is a better tactician than Guan Ping, for my Scorch-heavy strategy.

Lovely Slave :) huohu

ModeratorQuote:Pretty wacky that we can walk all the way around there. Even though the map changes aren't exactly aesthetically pleasing and natural-looking, it still shows how map changes will make these roms so much more open-ended and un-expected (which is key, to make these adventures feel somewhat different). These were my first map edits ever, so think of it as a practice run.
Quote:Tough gates. Glad you picked up that nugget on the resurrects too :)
Quote:Lovely SlaveJust one among many more unique officers in there now :)
Quote:woah way diff then version i am playing, one diff sprite colors and 2 zeal effected everyone, and ZL had 60000 troopsThis is an older vid. Zeal works different than in the video.

I tried to give the player actual 'options' rather than just a linear playing game. The Rise of Ieyasu mod takes this a step further.

KeymasterQuote:These were my first map edits ever, so think of it as a practice run.Right on. I meant it more as a compliment anyway of how you can totally transform a region / regions with the map.
I really like the ambushes you've set up, I should probably replace a basic 'gate' for one of those ambushes.
Quote:This is skippable now, but…It's worth taking out Hua Xiong, in the event you can recruit him early because he is then awesome. And plus it's nice to have another Inn spot.

Just finished up Lu Zhi and HuangFu Song. Mislead is so nice. Was a little disappointed that the house there was just an image and couldn't go inside.

Was she in the first version of the game? Nice Mislead tactician. Also, did you intentionally not give her any spells as an enemy? Makes her kind of pointless when fighting her besides the soldier count.

I like these portraits – what game did you extract these from?

Taking down Lu Zhi. Wow he's over-powered stats-wise (though I guess I've never played an RTK with him in there so I don't know how he's treated).

Nice ambush battle.

ModeratorIve done a lot of custom work for the new portraits. Tons of them will be used in the upcoming Rise of Ieyasu mod. I set up the ambush battles b/c going to the same old "gates" just made every battle so obvious…
No Diao Chan wasn't in the 1st version, I just made her smart but w/out tactics so as to not overpower the party early on. But it does make her less susceptable to tactics.

KeymasterQuote:Ive done a lot of custom work for the new portraits. So you're saying the portraits like the one I posted you made yourself and not pulled from a different game? Impressive.
Quote:I set up the ambush battles b/c going to the same old "gates" just made every battle so obvious…Yea, that's cool. Thing is the ambush battles are usually the extremely hard variety so you're likely to die if you run into them without knowing lol.

Man, this was a tough one. The dude second to bottom is what throws the battle for a loop because of his high INT. And Wu Tugu you basically can't do anything to, I had to have Mislead up for like 30 turns to take him down.
Actually though the Luo battle was almost as tough. That damn Mulu Dousi is smarter than my whole army.

Moderatorthe portraits are taken from a koei simulation game, but each portrait I have hand modified every pixel to make them colorful and better than just irfranviewing each one which makes them look pretty crappy. The Lu Bu is completely original though

KeymasterYea I figured they were from a Koei game just was asking which which one.
Can't beat Wu Tugu and the damn Scarve Wizards. I would definitely tone down the AP / AC disparities in the Shu area. The damn Nanman's take off 1500-2000 each time and I'm taking off 200 or 350 with a Battleaxe.
Edit: Actually, I just realized that the Mislead strategy is awful now. With the stupid Ambush spell, there is no way to have Recover (Yin Xian) and Mislead. Salve / Tong Xian is just too weak to be able to survive in these tough battles.
Plus, I just realized a cheap over-powered strategy that has got me through the Wu cave with ease. Needed to go and get Zhuge Liang and put him in battle with Lu Bu, Guan Xing, Zhao Yun and Shamoke. Lu Bu uses Thwart, Guan Xing uses Zeal and then Inferno with Zhuge Liang just dominates. Tough strategy for the AI to deal with but I can't win any other way, An Sha has been replaced with a shitty tactic in Ambush and while Mislead is great the tactics that accompany it are godawful.
All-Zeal needs to be at least 30, maybe 35. Just way too over-powered to be 10 that's for sure.
Love all the Dynasty Warriors-type storylines in here lol huohu (All of Lu Bu's sayings seem taken from his Dynasty Warriors personality (crush the vermin, scum, etc) and same with Meng Huo (If I back up any further my wife is gonna kill me!)).
Taking out Gan Ning so I don't have to go through the cave, but I'll go in anyway for the Nu Long sword and Steel H (eh, maybe I won't travel all the way to get the helmet though it's always nice to have the final helmet this early).

I wanted to make Lu Bu much "meaner" than he was in the original game. It makes for a funnier story :huohu: .

The damn Nanman's take off 1500-2000 each time and I'm taking off 200 or 350 with a Battleaxe. This is a VERY easy battle with the right strategy, although I think unfy had trouble too. Even though some officers have LOW soldier counts, their other high stats more than make up for it. There are 2 officers you can acquire @ the end of Shu which make the Wu Tugu battle a cinche, almost laughably easy.
I was up in the air about making the shortcut to Wu, but felt it rather cruel with the bridge ambush to make players go ALL the way back just to rest @ the inn. Is the shortcut too much?

Participantwell i thought wu tugu battle was easy just take out wu tugu last, don't know why but when lu bu is in front enemy tactics work less often

He definitely has the troops to withstand more than the others, but maybe its just his new portrait endowed self which makes him that much more beefy :P FLEXX

Actually, I very rarely ran out of TP with this strategy. It required just a little cheating to ensure the Ce Mian / Thwart stayed active but that was only during the battles where you had those asshole 244 AC guys that take like 300 damage with a Halberd lol. As I've said before, I can't be bothered to fill out my inventory with Power Pil's for every gate battle I encounter. Otherwise, it was the only way to hold off all the tacticians late game. Jie Ce is definitely a problem especially at castles like Chin Castle (Jin Castle in your mod) where all 5 generals have Jie Ce!! That's just hopelessly cruel. But I got through. Miracle at 4 TP is just too essential to have any other healing spell. This strategy usually means it's one-gate and then back to the castle to rest, but with the battles you have concocted, that's about what you'd be doing no matter the strategy (I have a hard time remembering when you've had less than 3 generals in a gate battle, which is cool because it's tough but they're all like difficult castle battles).
Quote:There are 2 officers you can acquire @ the end of Shu which make the Wu Tugu battle a cinche, almost laughably easy.Problem is, what use is beating that battle after you conquer Shu, outside of EXP? I generally don't just walk around the world map for the hell of it, which is also why I didn't get Fa Zheng and Pang Tong since I went on to the next area (I assume you're alluding to those two).

Wu ambush battles were cool. All were tough and required me burning everyone's ass up with ZGL + Zeal + Inferno while they sat there hopeless with Thwart up! huohu

lmao fucking Ding Yuan. Another dastardly 244 A.C. general with a hideous portrait.

Kind of weird fighting this battle at Jian Ye but it was definitely tough for where it was.

:) . Revived LYS.
Fun mod though. Bang-your-head-against-a-wall tough. Keep making the map edits and try to make them cleaner. Get some DoaE 2 sprites and portraits. A part of me wishes the Lu Bu mod was with Dong Zhuo and those guys instead of Shu (kind of like the other Lu Bu mod), but that'd require a lot more work to make it as a standalone and you'd have a weaker party (which would be tough considering how hard you've made it).

Im glad it was hard and, this being my FIRST doae mod when hacking was still pretty primitave with only basic edits allowable. I probably wont go back to add a lot more to it simply because I have moved on to making a better mod in the RISE of IEYASU mod which incorporates a lot of stuff this mod needed. It would take a LOT of time rebalancing if I added the new updates on this one…
Sorry about the goofy portraits, I didnt know how to use feidian until this mod was essentially completed, but I felt some still worked/fit. DIng Yuan I felt was hilarous :D

But, you've moved onto bigger and greater things so I hope you continue to do well with Leyasu.

ModeratorNot just that, my modding experience was as well. After playing through other peoples mods it sort of evolved.
I've been trying to incorporate everything a bit from the DOAE hacking guide into the ROI mod except for perhaps individual officer tactics which Im wavering about utilizing due to making tactic users overpowered.
This mod I think turned out better than I originally hoped with gameplay, difficulty, and story. Im glad you got a chance to run through it again with feedback :cactuar:
