OK ya I see that one on the buggie list.

September 13, 2013 at 1:20 am #43753sonic.penguinModeratorSeems to be working. I actually rolled back and discarded all of my work on Flames of Wu w/ the 1.3 IPS patch as it currently has so many issues that need to be resolved that I couldn't really work with it in its current version. Having the freezing issues resolved will help a lot, but the armor issue still needs to be resolved for it to really be more user-friendly.
I just couldn't find in the romhacking guide information about changing text color exclusively. can you point me to the addresses which alter the hex to IPS 1.3 specs? I can't find the thread where text dual color editing was posted.
September 13, 2013 at 12:35 pm #43754MiDKnighTModeratorThere's actually several places to modify the text color with the new text color stuff. It depends on where you are (town, cave, battle, etc…). You'd have to open the PPU viewer and look for the 4 color palette pattern in the ROM.
September 14, 2013 at 12:35 am #43755sonic.penguinModeratorI guess what I'm saying is is could you past the default code for dual colored text used in IPS 1.3 here?
September 14, 2013 at 2:50 am #43756sonic.penguinModeratorNew version uploaded that fixes a number of issues:
1. No more gunpowder sucking up inventory space as it is unneeded in Flames of Wu
2. Minor dialogue fixes
3. Upped TP cost of Powder as it was abusable and spammable at 5 TP. New cost is upped to 10 so it will take a little more strategy to balance tactic conservation and damage output.
4. He Qi gets a slight soldier boost + a good stat boost to make him more of a viable option vs. the likes of Taishi Ci and Zhang Zhao
September 14, 2013 at 4:49 pm #43757Shingen01ParticipantI'm more than halfway through your mod (I'm taking care of a situation in Wei), so I'll start posting my notes on the mod in a bit! Awesome job! It adds a totally different experience!

Awesome job! It adds a totally different experience!Cool. Glad that it's working out and not bugged to death. Even though I upped TP cost on the Powder, I was contemplating upping it to 15 as it does around 200-350 damage on non-protected enemies which is about 2x-3x as much damage as the warriors who are using Musou, granted the player ability to regenerate TP is extremely limited at the beginning of the game… It still might get another tweak though.

Village – Sun Jian and Sun Ce are exactly how I envisioned them (Brutes with Intelligence). Huang Gai and Cheng Pu are very versatile (and participated in pretty much every battle until they left). I switched weapons right away giving Ce and Jian the whip and serpent. I placed Han Dang at the top of the party so he could act as a screen. Cool Surprise! Ce and Jian were up to the task. Food was a serious problem, so I hauled ass to Chang Sha.
Observation – I love the initial increase in troop size!
Chang Sha – (Level 3 when I arrived!) Great job with the forced Quan recruit! Ditched Zu Mao and Han Dang (escort complete). Sold Smoke Pots for more money (for Weapons and Food). I figured that the party can’t afford to avoid battles and keep eating food at this point. Divvied up Resurrect and Tiger Paws. Bought a Qiang (Gai, Ce and Jian are now bad-ass). Decided to get a more money so I can tackle Tiger’s Den. Didn’t bother with food at this point (Fought until badly damaged, healed up, rinse and repeat). Walked around until I could buy 1 more Qiang and some food.
Attempted to tackle Tiger’s Den. Set out at Level 6 with 3000 food.
Observations – Qiang’s seem very powerful at this point (and outclass the whip and serpent). Tigers are a #%@*ing pain!
Tiger’s Den – Rough Battle. The bad ass kitty likes to one hit kill. Sun Jian took him out in a duel and I musoued the rest of em to death.
Treasure Cave – Well placed food! Items very worthwhile. War Manual given to Sun Quan. Ran out of Food!!!!
Heading Out to Si Shui at Level 10 (Sun Jian, Sun Ce, Huang Gai, Cheng Pu, Sun Quan) Brought 12000 Food.
Observation – Cool use of Sea Wings. I feel like I’m getting ready for D-Day!
Si Shui – Cool Trick with Hua Xiong charging out of gate!!! Your surprise battles add a lot of dimention and feel to the game.
Cave – Armor good find! Good job making all hidden items usuable! Hehe! Thank You for Food!!! Sun Ben was cut (Quan had similar troops)
Hu Lao Gate – Lu Bu crushed by Powder (He got one good hit in with carnage) Sun Jing cut. Powder is pretty powerful (I saw in your post that you have changed the cost).
Luo Yang
Gate 1 – Protect was huge against powder! Xu Rong musoued me but the team beat the crap out of him..
Gate 2 – Good job! Was not expecting this fight yet. Powder screwed up Lu Bu. He did his damage though. Took out Diao Chan first.
Luo Yang – Good job giving incentive to go back (with problems in the Southlands). Cool that Sun does not finish off Dong.
Cool that we get to see Yuan Shao. Links to Liu Biao very well. Terror was cute, but Powder won out.
Liu Biao’s boys – Mean mean thing to do… Sun Jing is back in the party LOL! Great job making it feel like the Sun Clan has lost everything! Good job advancing story through villager talk (We actually know what else is going on in the China).
Observation – The mace that is found seems outdated at this point.
AWESOME job so far! Haven’t encountered any new bugs yet. I’ll post my observations for part two in a bit.

Food was a serious problem, so I hauled ass to Chang Sha.This was done to match the food crisis @ Si Shui Gate. You actually did the work-around by grinding up and visiting the tiger den. My actual intended path was a quick stop at Changsha, Seawing to Si Shui Gate, and defeat Hua Xiong. The tiger den is actually meant for LATER in the game but I figured if people wanted to attempt it at a lower level, kudos to them!
That would explain, however, you ability to powder Dong Zhuo's forces into submission, granted, only Sun Quan has access to it at that point. It's actually VERY difficult to pass that point without it but it is possible to do it the non-grinding route.

Qiangs are pretty powerful and I have considered removing them, but then the warriors become nerfed vs. their powder using counterparts. (I can't make the WHOLE game impossible ) Although I did want players to actually have to stop by a food shop every now and then instead of them just being around for looks.

In the original DOAE, every battle was anticipatory EXCEPT the Shu Lu Bu battle because you never knew when you would hit it. I tried to add that dimension here as well.
Quote:Hu Lao Gate – Lu Bu crushed by Powder (He got one good hit in with carnage) Sun Jing cut. Powder is pretty powerful (I saw in your post that you have changed the cost).Again, the original route would have made it very hard, but player choice makes a game more versatile (think fighting dragon's on disc 1 of FF 9 or fighting Dinosaurs in FF8, or fighting in Junon on Disc 1 for FF7, etc. Some people just like to overpower their party before moving on :)

This was the hardest part of the mod to arrange. Removing Sun Jian and returning the Sun family back South when they were just in the middle of the map!? Yeah, there had to be some serious map edits, castle switches, and event changes. I'll wait and see if you can figure out the next few chapters without too much difficulty as some people have had difficulties.
Without the villagers keeping you informed it makes it even harder to understand what is going on in the game as the script is WAY more different and complex than the original.
Quote:Observation – The mace that is found seems outdated at this point. It's not so bad when using the original route. I'll probably do 1 of 2 things. 1: remove the mace and replace it with armor or 2: Remove Qiangs and advance the ability to learn Powder until level 12 or just reduce the damage power of Powder a bit so TP users arent doing 1500+ total damage vs. 500 for a total Musou
Quote:AWESOME job so far! Haven’t encountered any new bugs yet. I’ll post my observations for part two in a bit.Thanks. I wanted to do a release with the 1.3 patch and I had a copy with tons of changes but with the armor and freezing bugs and such I had to scrap it. Still waiting on a few buggies to be worked out before I can add the 1.3 changes with new text, tactics, and officer stats.
October 1, 2013 at 6:48 am #43761Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterJust went through this whole 65 page thread and deleted spam (well, it was 65 pages 30 minutes ago, now it's 63).
Mod looks awesome. Love scanning through it all actually, just for the portraits and sprites.

Wow, two whole pages of spam eh? Yeah, this thread has quite a bit in terms of development from the earliest pages which were my learning to the progress that was made by the end of the pages. The real question is, did you ever complete an LYS walkthrough of it?
October 8, 2013 at 3:31 pm #52545Shingen01ParticipantChapter 2 – Conquest of the Southlands
Party Level 12 – Sun Ce, Huang Gai, Sun Jing, Cheng Pu, Sun Quan*
Picked up Saltpeter in cave.
Gate battle – Pretty easy against 1 dude. Looking forward to recruiting Zhou Tai. Chen Wu is useful as he has a high troop count and is powerful (replaces Sun Jing).
Castle – A lot of guys think I’m Liu Bei LOL! Xu Gong Packs a Punch! Zhou Tai doesn’t have enough troops yet, but I’m sure he’ll be good later. Good job with this. Tiger Paws!!! Mwahahahahahahaha!!! Cuirass seems outdated at this point (all my equipment was the same or better so I sold it for money).
Dan Yang – Powder bailed me out against Tigers. Dueled Yan Baihu. Pirates…. Uggggghhhh… New party – Sun Ce, Huang Gai, Cheng Pu, Sun Quan, Zhou Yu (so I can have Powder x2).
Lu Jiang – Powder and haste did the trick. Taishi Ci is BAD-ASS (Sweet job limiting his troop growth). Serpent (Hidden item is out of date at this point).
Zhang Zhao is cool, almost made the cut… I wish he had troop growth. He did serve the Sun family for like 5.367 million years. Recruited Yu Fan in random encounter. Sent to billeting.
Went after Yuan Shu (Level 15 w/recover) Taishi Ci, Sun Ce, Huang Gai, Sun Quan, Zhou Yu, Cheng Pu* Wrecked with Powder. Ji Ling Recruited during random encounter! HOLY CRAP!
Final Battle Yan Baihu! Wrecked havoc with Powder! Cool way to take care of Ce…
Chang Sha – He Qi cut (I noticed in a previous post you have improved him, which may make him viable at this point)… Ji Ling added to Party. Ji Ling, Taishi Ci, Huang Gai, Sun Quan, Zhou Yu, Cheng Pu*
Awesome MOD!October 9, 2013 at 5:24 pm #52549sonic.penguinModeratorWait, what!? Ji Ling was recruitable? I might have missed that one :P How many troops does he have? I’ll comment on the rest later but i’ve gotta head out for a few hrs. Woohoo, new forums look nice!
October 9, 2013 at 8:25 pm #52551sonic.penguinModeratorOkay, so a couple of things… I see the Ji Ling issue and it doesn’t seem to be that bad of an issue considering: A. You have to search for him after Yuan Shu’s defeat and B. Actually recruit him and C. He doesn’t have leveled troop growth, so I’ll just leave it as a little *bonus*
Yes, in the latest release He Qi did get a troop bump to make him more viable and the cost of Powder was amp’d up as well as it seemed a little imbalanced and it was hard to make new guys even slightly viable compared to them. If you’ve got the cash, warriors are better, but the poor have to rely on their tacticians.
*Serpent* provides 2x attack, so although its weaker, it automatically provides +1 attack.
Zhang Zhao originally had a leveled troop count along with Lu Su but were cut so players actually removed them from the party. I’ve found out that giving tacticians w/ leveled troop counts makes them never, EVER, leave the player party which made the game kind of cheap since their tactics level up and you never have to get rid of them.
Glad you’re enjoying the mod as it’s had a lot of work plugged into it and with the *latest update* the game freezing bug is fixed as well.
