ParticipantNo Ricky, I’m sorry I gave you the wrong idea, but I am here to be pals with everyone, yourself included :). Yes, I am friendly with the 3 of them, mostly CCG, but I am not part of any clique. In fact, I am generally cool with most people I come across on the net, they just happened to be included is all. I didn’t mean to imply that you were part of a click either, but rather a group of people on the site who are not fans of them (again, I looked at a few old threads). I personally detest e-drama, so while I may write some silly things, I assure you and all my new friends here that will do my best to have an enjoyable experience with everyone on the site, as this is a community; all of us sharing a love for DOAE and possibly other games. As far as I know, none of them come here anymore, but if they ever do, it’s not because I told them anything. As for being familiar, I assure you I was never here before. I’m actually still pretty new to the whole forum thing, only having really been active on one other forum (an NES fansite where I met the 3 called PlayTheNES). May we all grow and prosper on here together.
Love, peace and NES,
Craig

ParticipantI love you all too, and I’m glad I could defect your attention away from Christmas long enough to focus on things that really matter; things like Mike Tyson’s ballzzzzzzzz. But here’s the better question. If Mike Tyson was a DOAE general, what would his stats be? And how about Santa Claus? I want stats for both, or I cannot sleep at night. Here, I’ll go first: Mike Tyson has 245 strength, 20 intelligence, and 205 agility. Santa Claus aka Jolly Old Saint Nick has 210 strength, 255 intelligence, and 155 agility (not as slow as one would think, but he’s no ninja warrior).

It’s a good New Year’s resolution to fight the urge to be like Mike. Hehe.

ParticipantI used to own the orginal cart, now I play it all on emulators (oh no, don’t say that out loud!). I busted tail powerleveling at the Eye boss in the Ice Cave to get level 50 (highest level in NES version) characters. I enjoyed using the "serious OG" party of a Warrior, Black Belt, Red Mage, and White Mage. They were extremely balanced, and at level 50 my black belt/master was able to one-hit-KO Chaos, the final boss. The trick is to not equip your black belt with weapons and possibly armor for most of the game, since his attack power with no weapon is always twice the number of his level, and his defense rating with no armor is always the same number as his level. This gave my level 50 unarmed Master 100 attack power (with many more hits than the Knight/Fighter) and 50 defense which is decent. Trouble is you need to get him to about level 25-30 probably to really make him a brick shithouse. The GBA one was fun too, and I also beat it (much easier and characters max at level 99).
P.S. For all you tortured souls who want the option to buy up to 99 items with a single transaction, try using this handy little utility program from the makers of Notso Fatso (possibly the best NSF player out there):

It’s comments like that that make me wish CCG, Sarsamis and Mr. Allex were still here. Sorry Ricky lol, nothing against you or the other nonfans. I just find random stupid humor to be besssssssttttttttt ;). FTW!
P.S. Watch this, my little rays of sunshine. It’s totally not strange or hilarious. Totally not.

ParticipantNice to meet you all, my name’s Craig. I hope that we can all find ULTIMATE HAPPINESS together, and maybe combined our power levels can be over 9,000!!! I’m a big fan of DOAE’s 1 and 2 as well as the NES Dragon Warriors (haven’t done the others yet) and the pre-7 Final Fantasies, also the throwback FFIX (I need to play 8, I’d probably enjoy it too). I seem to like to use long sentences with complex, hyperactive thoughts, so I’ll try to take it somewhat easy with the whole verbose thing. I also like making the occasional sexy joke. And with that, I’ll see you all on the forums.

ParticipantSega is ok, but Nintendo… If Nintendo was a woman, I would totally put my hands up her shirt :). Yowsers, that’s pretty hot. Now I’ve gone and soiled myself.

ParticipantHaha Pink Leotard. That’s worthy of a late night rubout session lawl. It must be a dummied item, though that’s purely gesticulation on my part (oooh big words, score one for me!). Are these by any chance Pro Action Replay codes? If anyone knows how to use these codes here, please share the wealth. Screw the fighting 1,000,000 battles thing I’ve been doing. Although I’ll still try for the Zend Zong saber at some point with a save state for both Zhang Liao battles so maybe we can solve this mystery once and for all. At least if I get it via codes/cheating, I could get to the end of the game and come back later when I regain some patience. FTW :D

ParticipantHey, Zhuge Liang, good to be here. I think the screenshot with Zhang Liao possessing the Zeng Zong saber might be further proof that he holds it in his inventory and will drop it if you fight him enough times (with my luck, probably like 1,000 hehe). I also noticed that Sima Zhao is a saber wielder, but after getting Youyuu bow drops from warlord fights where no one uses bows (Cao Pi battle and Sima Yi’s thunder countering fight) I’m starting to wonder about sword generals dropping swords, spear generals dropping spears, etc.

ParticipantThis is interesting. I’m fighting Cao Pi, attempting to get the Qing Gang sword. I decide to save state with one general left alive as I did for the Li Guang bow. Two generals in this fight use swords, Xiahou Ba and Chen Qun, and since Xiahou Ba is the powerhouse, I figured I would give him a shot. Strangely enough, after probably a few hundred tries, the only weapons I was getting Power spears. I said screw it and tried for Chen Qun, only to get Youyuu bows after a few hundred tries. How could sword wielding generals drop bows? No generals in that battle even use them. Spears, on the other hand, make more sense. I guess I should give it more of a shot. However, if anyone would like to help me in my Hellish endeavor, feel free to give me your contact info and I’ll send you the ram save file for right before Cao Pi. Just a suggestion ;).

ParticipantI got so excited to receive the Li Guang Bow that I kind of forgot to take a snapshot to send in of me getting it in the battle. Because of this, I loaded up the save state again (after saving my game of course) and have spent probably a couple hundred tries so far, only to get about 7 war scrolls, a Steel bow and a Power Pill. Seems Li Zhan is big on the War Scrolls. Anyway, LordYuanShu you sexy beast, do you really need a screenshot of me getting it, or perhaps would a screenshot of me having the bow in my inventory suffice? Just trying to help out any way my n00b ass can.

ParticipantUh, guys…… I just found ULTIMATE HAPPINESS. Jesus, wow. Let me tell you this. I kept going for another 25 turns to make a total of 375 tries, none of them yielding a Li Guang Bow. But then… I said to myself, only 1 item can be dropped at any given time, so if one character does in fact hold the drop for the Li Guang bow, then perhaps the other one is cancelling his drop out. Therefore, I killed off Zhang Yun, the weaker of the two bow users, and left only Li Zhan, the stronger one, alive. Then I created a savestate with just Li Zhan left, and loaded it up. Low and behold, the VERY FIRST time I tried it this way, I received the Li Guang bow, about 5 minutes ago it was. It has an attack power of 140. With the gauntlet, that makes 160. And since bows attack twice, it’s really like multiplying that attack power by 2, so if you ask me, it ends up having a practical attack power of 320, or around there (notice how Huang Zhong’s two weaker hits combined will do more damage than the other’s one stronger hit). Man, they really made Huang Zhong rock in this game by the sheer fact that he is your lone bow user (I think he is anyway). By the way, I know it was just luck that I got the Li Guang bow right away- I tried about 10 times just now to get it again fighting only Li Zhan, and nothing yet, so who knows how long it would take me to get again. Well, once again, its attack power is 140 and was dropped by Li Zhan, if anyone wants to add that somewhere (like the FAQ) or test it out. Now I go for the Qing Gang next and I’ll assume that Cao Pi himself is the one to drop it :D.

ParticipantI think the Zhang Liao fight makes sense since it’s the end of the game and he is one of the VERY few enemy generals to wield a saber. Also, i seems as if enemies that wield a certain weapon type will only drop that weapon type. However, I still can’t get that Li Guang bow and I’m starting to lose my sanity here, as well as the hope of getting it. At first I save stated at the point where all I had left was an Outlaw Army in that battle, so I guess it made sense that after 200 attempts I couldn’t even get a bow. It seems that the save state generates item drops based on what generals are left in the battle, and since no bow wielders were left alive, their random drops must not have been included. That is why I rectified this by then creating a save state with only the two bow wielding generals left behind. I did indeed receive a few bows, but so far after 350 tries (it was really hard to keep track but it should be accurate), they have only been Steel Bows. Here is a rundown of my item drops, in case anyone was curious:
did 350 turns
got 1 Dragon Armor on turn 13
got 1 Power Pill on turn 112
got 1 Steel Bow on turn 128
got 1 Dragon Armor on turn 140
got 1 Power Pill on turn 142
got 1 Steel Bow on turn 185
got 1 Dragon Armor on turn 188
got 1 Steel Bow on turn 210
got 1 Steel Bow on turn 228
got 1 Dragon Armor on turn 273
Well, it looks like you can only get 1 item at any given time, and I haven’t received any items since my 273rd turn, so I should be due for another item drop soon since so far the biggest item drought by far was from turns 14 to 111, 97 fruitless battles. I will keep going until I get it and can report my findings, but out of curiosity, about how many tries did it take others to find this most elusive Li Guang Bow drop?

January 5, 2008 at 3:04 am in reply to: You guys ever tried equipping multiples of the same item? #22455UltraCraig64
ParticipantActually, there are 6 slots for each person. That would make Lu Bu’s 50 intelligence rise to 170 (+120). Still, he would be a half decent spell caster. I also wanted to point out that Meng Da with his natural intelligence of 155 has no tactical points and is thus unable to be a tactician, yet with the +20 intelligence from a treatise, he is able to have TP and therefore be a tactician. I should know since I tried it. However, I remembered Chen Deng having in the 160’s and being able to be a tactician, so I took Ma Chao with his base 140 level and slapped on a treatise to give him 160. Voila! It worked, so it seems that 160 is the minimum requirement for any general to be a tactician in DOAE 2, but only for your guys. I have noticed far dumber generals on the enemy’s side possessing TP and being able to use tactics. If anyone feels they can add to this, feel free- all this thinking is hurting my brain.

ParticipantOk, maybe I did a bogey on the "save right before the battle ends" thing. After 200 tries (yes, I have counted painstakingly), all I have to show for it is 10 Power Pills and only 1 Fortune Shield. That’s it. However, it just occurred to me that since I created my savestate where I only had an Outlaw Army left, maybe I was only getting the items dropped by that solitary Outlaw Army. I am going to now try this with having both bow users alive. I have a strong feeling that things will turn out a lot better for me after doing this. Well, back to the grind.
