Or, you had mentioned a better spot to grind for money… if it's possible to take even a severely reduced party to that area… etc.
In my play through, the replacement Yuan Shao fight is where I had food<>money grind issues… none during late game.
If you're at the end…. and have recruited all the generals in heaven that you can…
Try reducing your party from 7 folks to 5 or 6. You'll burn through far less food.
I had to rearrange my party a fair bit for the last two fights. Definitely have someone ultra smart in the van/top position. For me, Cao Cao was by far a whole lot harder than the Lu Meng replacement fight. Do what you can to get all the recruitable folks in the Heaven area. You'll need all you can get.
Even hiring with steeds I wasn't that strapped for cash. I prolly over grinded though. And if your active party don't have a steed each, you'll want that.
I did the Lu Meng replacement fight first, which probably isn't the intended route (Cao Cao fight yields a second masamune weapon from the 'go kill pirates plz' … or at least it did in the version i played… which seems silly to get after you get everything beat-ish afaik).
Unique characters ? Lu Bu guards heaven, so it's not really possible.
I ended up using the 'doubt' tactic on him, personally…. did nicely.

although note that the firespirits aren't exactly pushovers…
the lubu fight is indeed rough. there are two MUCH harder ones to come, but at least you'll be able to recruit some folks before then.
ie: if you haven't noticed, its a pathway and rather regal looking, so all kinds of…. HEAVEN!@%^(!@)%^
lu bu's a bit rought, but there are at least 3 really hard fights in heaven.
The ghost fights were meant to be insane ;)
I forgot how I handled it, but it was before some patching SP had done to the mod, you can prolly find my turn out earlier in the thread heh.

I may be recalling incorrectly, but I think a lady or something towards the end of Yuan Shao area gets war edge, or maybe it was sometime in jingzhou, i dunno. Similar concerns :)
Sooo… depending on how ya got the mod setup, it might not be as big of a deal as ya thought.
We're at 8 points going between STR/INT so far…. :P hehehehehehe and yes, i know that ultimatum wasn't going to hold up :)

My main system boots, but I haven't gone about installing all of the programs and other stuff on it yet. That room is a bit cluster fucked and hard to get to anything at the moment :(.
Well, I think the dev environment is installed and possibly the art program. Need to put in the dev env 'pro' key and copy over project files.
Really need to get that room straightened up and SCIENCE stuff out of the way so I can sit at the computer desk heh.
